This may or may not have already been suggested but
What about unlockable dyes that take the color of your team color?
Or possibly dyes that mimic the theme of your ship?
Clothing pieces that display the emblem of your ship?
My main suggestion was the team color dyes, the rest were afterthoughts as I was typing this.
