One year since Mobula added.
« on: July 15, 2014, 12:34:07 am »
This week marks the one year anniversary of the Mobula! Yay
But also a full year of no new ships. :(

Please do not forsake Skirmish Mode.

Skirmish Mode has to be forsaken to work on other stuff. They don't exactly have the staff to do too much work on it AND make new content.

I Just don't want Adventure Mode to alienate players and leave the game in stagnation the way Eve Incarna did. CCP lost a lot of subscriptions by simultaneously adding microtransactions, starting an ambitious project, and ignoring what the game was all about, which was, is and always will be
Ships Blowing Each Other Up.

Muse already ticked step 1 and 2. If they tick step 3 then they are making the same mistake and will likely lose players. Make sure that this game remains fun and dynamic. We all know Adventure mode will take development, and we can expect less dedication the the base game because of it. Adventure mode has a release date likely as late as 2015. We haven't seen a new ship in 12 months, new gun in 10 months, or new content at all (rangefinder) in 7 months. Nothing at all since the confirmation of Adventure Mode.

I see a lot of players of Guns of Icarus who used to play Eve Online. Anyone who has played both games will understand how they scratch the same itch. Guns of Icarus Online was successfully kickstarted just a few months after droves of Eve players unsubscribed because of the Incarna fiasco. This was probably not a coincidence. Many players likely still wanted to blow ships up but didn't want to fund a company that didn't care about them.

Are we really OK playing the game exactly as it is for 18 months or more and then we have to pay for all the new content? Adventure doesn't even have a set release date, when can we expect Skirmish to get some love? Even when Adventure is released, it is some kind of co-op campaign, and can't come close to taking the 400ish hours I've played in Skirmish. We will all end up back in Skirmish for the long haul. Can't we have a LITTLE content in the meantime, just to keep things interesting?

Look at the suggestions/feedback forum. It is not full of suggestions for Adventure. Its almost all requests for content for skirmish. Listen to the players and don't make CCP's mistake.

Less development for Skirmish is necessary. Don't make it no development. Adventure can wait a month or two if it means you won't start losing players BEFORE it comes out.

Tbh, I think a lot of the reason we don't see more ships is because the ships seem to be mostly covered already.

I -love- how every ship is so different, and seems to fit different roles. I love seeing the ingenuity of pilots who do crazy stuff that you wouldn't think could work.

I am not sure what a new ship can do to differentiate itself.

Probably I would rather have new guns (though, tbh, all the guns seem to have filled their niches nicely, with the exception of the harpoon - aka the achievement gun) and new map types.

"Your focus determines your reality" - Qui Gonn Jinn

Firstly, on the matter of ships it's kind of hard to make up something really original and new now, without anyone saying something like "but it's just a ship X with a little more Y and little less Z". What is more important; wake up, game IS finished. It's beeing sold on Steam as a completed product, not beta or early acces or anything else, so basically Muse can just turn all their focus to making new things. The matter of patching or adding new content to the game is their decision. Of course it's in good taste to have some backup (or at least patches) for the game but it's not a must.
Secondly if you'd be enough interested to actually watch chat with devs you'd see that in spite of all that they DO make things for Skirmnish mode. They said that new update will be soon (like a month or so I think) and that it will do some changes to clan system and some changes in ammounation. Maybe more, but I just didn't remember ;) So be less demanding and more patient, my friend.

Adventure doesn't even have a set release date
Well kickstarter page says it's in some time in 2015. It's hard to set a date because it's hard to tell percentage of work and I guess many things are rather in, let's say thinking-phase than doing-phase.

That's because
1. There is special subject for Adventure Mode suggestions
2. Adventure mode making is in so early phase that even Muse is not sure what exactly will it look like.

Muse is also working to make some of game modes from Adventure Mode to be availible to play in skirmnish, so with release of Adventure Mode there will also be some good stuff for Skirmnish too ;)

The adventure mode thread makes up 0.4% of posts in the Feedback and Suggestions forum. It is a locked thread.

If the devs really think that the only improvement possible for the game is a gunner buff, then they are delusional.

That is so insanely far from being a true statement that I wonder if you have any idea if you know what you're actually talking about. Most games are finished when put out, at most they may get some bug fixes. There are constant balance testing and patches that go out as well as bug fixes and new cosmetics (as well as, apparently, Steam Workshop support soon), if you think that for some reason you're owed more than that... you're pretty delusional.

They're obviously working on Co-op and Adventure mode as that's what was promised. I don't see how this is some sort of sudden issue.

Edit: Oh, and most of the feedback and suggestion threads are for skirmish mode because we already know what that is and thus can think of stuff to add for it, but quite frankly 99% of them are completely awful and trash.

Bad argument, TF2 is free to play and 7 years old, but less than a month ago they added 5 new weapons.

As someone who has bought 12 copies of this game, yes, I would like to have more than cosmetic updates.

Starcraft 2 Heart of The Swarm came out well over a year ago and has has nothing added.

You want something closer to GOIO in terms of scope? Try Natural Selection 2.

Regardless of anything, I can't possibly see how you'd think that somehow one of the most transparent dev teams who talk to players on an everyday basis and has a weekly stream where they update you with everything they're going on is somehow abandoning the game.

Starcraft 2 Heart of The Swarm WAS content addition to an existing game. The original Starcraft 2 started with more variety and content than Guns of Icarus, and they clearly have a different release schedule.

I really am not saying that MUSE is abandoning the game, but I can see problems happening because another great company well in tune with its players made that mistake in the past( which was not abandonment, read my post. What happened to Eve was a lot more subtle than that, and to be fair the game is still around, even though they never got to finish THEIR big ambitious project). I also believe many players who have already shown that they will quit a game for such reasons are playing this one.

"Diverse ship classes and tons of weapons to choose from with realistic flight and projectile physics"
There is a reason that doesn't read "16 different guns to choose from, and 7 ships", those are low numbers. Even counterstrike-source has 28 weapons, and they don't brag about the variety of weapons because it really isn't anything special in that regard.

If that's how you want to look at it, SC2 was released in 2010, HOTS released in 2013, and no release date for the next expansion (both expansions, btw, have to be purchased). The game itself hasn't changed much other than a few new units here and there since Starcraft 1, the core game, strategies, unit being pretty much the same. The only variety and content (other than the campaign version, which is why it's a full price game rather than the ~$15 that GOIO costs) is player made content.

So basically you're crying doom and gloom because someone else at some point had a perceived misstep, according to you. I don't really understand why you're convinced the same is happening here, and somehow putting an "I bought the game and it needs to have more put into it" attitude behind it. Sorry, but you (or any of us here) are owed nothing more than what's already in.

I'm sure we'd all love to have new cool things added in, whether it's ships or guns (though quite frankly the currently balance is already hard enough to get in line without adding more stuff in). I'm also quite ok with having the team focus on making co-op and adventure mode be the best it can be.

Oh please, now you're just nitpicking. Every game uses catch lines and marketing slogans. I quite doubt that that particular line was there for bragging rights.

Not according to me, according to a very large number of people, not including me. Players are fickle, I played Eve before Incarna and did not quit when it came out. I am disappointed that they never got to do 'walking in stations' and was willing to wait out lower levels of content creation for it.

Not everyone will.

I mention it because there are real parallels that were very damaging. I want to see adventure mode. I don't want the community to die while we're waiting for it.

I know that I am not 'owed' anything more than what I bought (I'm a Comcast customer, not by choice). Giving players nothing more than what you owe them is a very EA attitude.

Please do not misunderstand me and think I am demanding anything at all.
