Spectator Mode, more view types
« on: June 23, 2014, 06:43:43 pm »
Sometimes after playing a few games and running round ships like a mad hatter putting out fires here there and everywhere i like to relax, go to spectator mode, and watch the ships blow themselves to bits. but i find the camera really odd to control, say i want to stay with one particular ship and follow it round quite close. which i am able to do providing the ship is not moving up down or side to side even slightly.

I know Spectator mode isn't a main focus for the devs but i would quite like to see a few different camera options like:

Being able to see through the eyes of individual players in game
Being able to control where the point the camera orbit is in no clip mode to make it easier to follow a ship around.
maybe being able to lock onto a ship and orbit a particular ship with a camera

The third one already exists. press 1-8 number keys to select ships. 0 to go back to free camera.

Being able to hear intra-ship communications would also be nice. If just to laugh at the crews panicking.

I would like bullet cam and data record so you can replay certain epic moments from all angles, including the tip of the bullet.

Being able to listen in on the inter crew comm chatter would make for interesting addition to competitive games.

Most teams use VOIP's like mumble or teamspeak though ):

This would be pretty interesting.

I don't know.  At least for me, it doesn't matter how much I love abd respect the other team, when I am playing competitively they are the most evil and despicable people ever. Everything they do is b.s. abd their mothers all engage in illicit activities during the match.

I was referring to spectate mode for the tournament streams. I think it would help the community as a whole if people could hear what the top level crews sound like in the heat of battle. A big chunk of this game is communication which we don't see on the tournament streams. When new captains search for videos of the game they see clueless youtubers rambling or spectator mode tournament play with detached viewer commentary.

I would like to have "Listen to ship chatter" be a toggle-able option when tracking a ship in spectator mode. That way when some one looks on youtube or spectates a high level game, they get the full GOI experience with all the shouting and silly jokes.

I can't think of a competitive game that let's you do that. I'd imagine that a lot of teams would be uncomfortable either for strategic reasons or privacy.

A lot of teams use teamspeak anyways though.

In IRL torunaments they have a camera inside the sound proof booth of the teams.

And they use it almost never.
