The Description Game
« on: January 04, 2014, 05:47:11 pm »
I guess it's time to bring it back. Welcome to the description, for those of you unfamiliar with the description game it goes like this.
We a start off with a phrase say "Belcher" the next person to post has to define "belcher." For instance "Belcher is the nickname for a light class of engine, while cheap creates a loud belching sound as it operates, irritating both the vessels crew and nearby wildlife." that person then has to post a term or phrase for the next person to define.

I'll start us off

Back in the old days, when ships with more than 4 people still roamed the skies, there were more classes than 'Pilot' 'Engineer' and 'Gunner'

The 'Yard Dog' was the crewman who was in charge of all things that you could look through.

He was not only a master spotter, being able to see ships seemingly miles away, but he was also proficient in the range-finder.

Because the most famous 'Yard Dog' used a strange system of 'inches' and 'yards,' and refused to call out targets in the standard meters, he was referred to as a 'Yard Dog.'

The name stuck, and soon applied to all spotters.

A "Strum-Dinger" is a Derogatory slur commonly used to describe unskilled musicians working in the cheapest of bars in Cathedral;
they were given this name as to the fact that they commonly strummed their instruments and dinging their glasses of cheap alcohol together in hopes of attracting attention.

The Pasha-Type Utility Nexus Artillery piece, or simply Pun-Cannon as referred to by artillery units is a self-propelled unit able to serve a variety of purposes. For instance the Pasha is fitted with an auxiliary pulley system allowing it to act as a crane when a more dedicated piece of equipment is unavailable. Multiple PUN's are able to link together allowing crews to pass ammunition, to make room for crews to sleep in, or to build an improvised battle wall.

The Hermes, a type of engine, was designed to achieve the highest thrust to weight ratio possible in the space required for a light engine, thus, It was named after Hermes, the greek good of messengers and swift travel; Harnessed in many raider ships, the Hermes engine is central to success, as it allows for many quick getaways.
(sounds like this thread would be useful for muse to reap ideas for game elements from.)

Enobaria is a fuel additive used to drastically improve engine output, however, the gas emits is so toxic, a single whiff will kill a full grown man. As such, it's manufacturers immediately discontinued production. So now the only way to get Enobaria is to find bottles of it which can sell for as much as 5 tons of gold per liter, or to make it yourself, which has been known to cause many cases of explosions and toxic fumes.

Moskalet is the name of the seclusive group responsible for the manufacturing of almost three quarters of the Burren and Middle Plains' flare guns. However, the company does have a shady history of intercepting and raiding merchant ships for the resources, but at least Moskalet does donate half of its proceeds to housing refugees from war-torn areas.

Geirmunder refers to an engineer who does not clean out old engine grease before applying new engine grease. Engines maintained by a Geirmunder will be serviced in record time. Unfortunately leaving an engine in the care of a Geirmunder for too long will result in poor performance due to "Gear Mud."

"Roctapeling"

The correct term here is "Roctapelled".
This reverse to the old experiment Muse used to work on when they started to use highly trained sealife as weapons.
The word excists of 3 parts. Rocket, Octopus and Propelled.
Muse experimented in a way to creata Rocket Propelled Octopusses, these could be the ancesters of the T.A.R. (Trained Aqualife Re-used) barrel.
The R.P.O. (Rocket Propelled Octopus) device could only be mounted on the back of the ship due to its design.
As the R.P.O. devise lanched the octopus would get scared and produce ink, clouds would turn black and the ink would hurt the engines and made nasty spots on your clothing.
The R.P.O. device was later cancelled by the higher command of Muse because a one use only was too inefficient.
Muse has destroyed every evidence of this experiment but few still know.
All the squids are placed in barrels and used for future projects.

Holice is the name for an airship dock, originally invented in the Arashi League, it is a large structure with two clamps on either side of the boat. A pilot navigates his ship up to the holice and descends into it, where it is clamped in place.

Scrapdunes, despite the name, have nothing to do with the battle arenas know as 'Desert Scrap' or 'Battle on the Dunes' but instead have to do with the mass junkyards theorized to be scattered through the world.

These 'scrapdunes' are said to contain meaningless junk and worthless trinkets, if an adventurer was lucky (or daring!) enough to find one.

These untold treasures of mediocrity have never been found (be it because they are hidden so well, because they don't exist, or nobody has ever looked for them, nobody knows for sure), so 'Searching for scrapdunes' has become a common idiom among the people, meaning 'putting a lot of work into something that reaps no reward'
