Ability to turn private lobbies public.
« on: December 05, 2013, 10:25:43 am »
I'm sure everyone has had this scenario happen to them.

6 of your clanmates are on and 7 from another clan are on. Y'all want to have a pickup game so you tell them you are making a lobby and ask them to join quickly. You jump over but before all can load in, that level one gunner takes the captain spot and gets mighty offended when you ask him to switch.

Well here is a solution. Have an option so that the host of a private lobby can switch the game to public. That way you can make sure you get your teams right before letting in anyone. Its basically a form of crew formation but it would allow for setting up to play against other teams.

What happens if you do a 4 ship crew formation and create a 2v2 from there?

While the form crew button alleviates this to some degree, I would really appreciate this option to organize before releasing the match to the public. This should be a thing for sure for exactly the reasons mentioned above. Not to mention the pubbies getting aboard clan ships can learn a lot in a short time while under the command of an experienced crew like that.

Why not just make up a "Form Match?" Same thing as crew formation, just for the sake of something like this situation.

All of these would be fine. Basically I just want an easy way to largely fill a lobby before its public.

Would also work if the match lobby owner had a discreet start for the match. So they would be able to invite first and then ready up when they are done and ready with the teams to make it public and "normal".

Form crew - Invite crew.

Other team does the same.

The first team creates a server thru their formation

The second team joins that server with their formation

As easy as that (Unless there is a bug that does not show a server or whatnot)

Because sometimes people get beat to the punch before getting there.

I like a lot of these ideas (form match and private/public toggle particularly).

Another workaround for this kind of thing is to create the private match and get everyone settled, and then just post the password in the lobby looking for the fillers.

But, your waiting for their server to pop up, basically the leader of the joining formation crew is camping the matches list, waiting for the server to pop up. How much quicker for 7 people to join can you get?
