I doubt ghost ships would fit with the lore, since that would imply the presence of supernatural forces.

Its a game with airships and even larger airships that shouldn't even be able to fly duking it out in the air. Plus sailors are often superstitious folk. I'd imagine there would be sorts of stories. Specially when you have wreaks of giant airships on landscapes.

I totally agree that legends would possibly tell of mysterious ghost ships. But actually having them be real, actual entities would push the theme of the world into fantasy.

Regarding the realism of the ships, of course they wouldn't be able to fly in real life. The game's world is not trying to be realistic, but it is trying to be authentic in its aesthetics and what can or cannot happen. Magic or supernatural forces would stick out like a sore thumb in the world of GoI, no matter how small the balloon on a Spire is.

Made me remember this (last topic). When the flares first were added to the game we used to joke around with them, making ghost ships and all that. I guess Jess had a similar thought in mind when she wrote that, so I guess there's still some legends about the supernatural in the lore, real or not.

Not that it's a big deal whatsoever, but people keep complaining that ghost ships would make the game more magical ...When ghosts really have yet to be dis-proven as a real phenomenon.

Voodoo would be one thing, but a rare siting of a ghostly ship would be another... Ghosts are supposedly just the temporarily visible residual of energy left over from high energy events that are suspended in time and grounded to the area in which the events occurred.

I think if it's represented well it would be really awesome to see. It doesn't have to be glowing bright green and see-through, it could just be an ominous, decaying wreck of a ship floating unnervingly in the background.

I mean, I try to pretend my Galleon is an ominous ghost ship anyway lol

I know I'm going off-topic, but I can't help but address this.

Are you honestly trying to vouch for the existence of ghosts in real life? Seriously?

If so, that's just silly.

I'm simply stating that the existence of ghosts is, well, false. And to argue otherwise is very silly indeed.

You know making large, generalized, unsourced claims is very naughty... Remember Santa Clause is watching.

Have proof?

Something that is claimed without proof can be dismissed without proof.

There is proof out there of their existence such as EVP recordings, pictures of faces and shadows, and film of objects moving by themselves. What is your explanation or counter evidence?

I feel like we already have enough ships names "The Black Pearl" in game and the presence of ghost ships would only exacerbate this.  Many games have non canon events such as Halloween events, it may be cool if restricted to that e.g. all ships are ghost ships during halloween similar to when all ships were birthday ships in the halloween/birthday celebrations just gone.

The mind is a powerful thing, prone to hallucinations, illusions and wishful thinking.

Seeing a shadow of a person or a face on the wall is no different than seeing the figure of jesus christ on a piece of burnt toast or a dog's arse. Through millions of years of evolution, the human brain learns to recognise specific shapes, one of which being the image of a human face or human figure. Naturally, human beings will see a patch of dust and see a face in it, because the human brain is trained to see the human form in places where it isn't.

With regards to objects moving 'by themselves', I would not trust others, who are capable and likely to manufacture paranormal instances to gain attention. And even if an object moved by itself, I struggle to believe how:

Object moves by itself = OMG ghosts.

Wind, vibration, any kind of scientific duhickey, that's what I'll trust.
