Vancouver lan event
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:16:34 pm »
I've been posting around places to find out if there is any interest in a lan party in or near Vancouver. So far I've got some interest from the Natural Selection 2 community as well as Star Citizen. The former being a teamwork based game like this one and the latter promises to be as much as well come the end of November.

So would anyone here be interested in participating in this kind of event? I have a completely empty house on the beach in Roberts creek on the Sunshine Coast if the event is 20 people or less. If it's larger it would probably be more cost effective to rent a small venue and do it in the city because I imagine most participants hail from there and ferry fare gets expensive quick. A free venue, no matter how awesome, doesn't justify having 15+ people pay $25 each just to travel there. Although the house could hold quite a few people and beach fires ARE an option, it's even got a nice big flat front yard for tents.

Games as mentioned would be Natural Selection 2 http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/
It's an assymetrical FPS/RTS hybrid. Each team has a commander who plays overhead RTS and the units are real people biting and shooting to capture resource and tech points for the team.

Star Citizen https://robertsspaceindustries.com/about-the-game
has a dog fighting alpha releasing at the end of November and is a starship dog fighting game.  It's FPS based so you can move around in and outside of your ships, similar to goi in many respects except, well, obviously not steam punk.
It promises to be a game purely of skill with no RPG point system elements.

All games included so far have been teamwork based games from indie companies. I'm totally open to suggestions on different games to add and I will post in the appropriate communities to measure interest. I'd prefer if the games suggested meet that criteria though.

So if you know someone who lives in or near Vancouver please direct them to this thread. Or tell them they can contact me on steam. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198070611318/
