Toggle-able aim asist
« on: October 09, 2013, 08:40:28 am »
I'd really like a toggle-able option in settings, to change the behaviour of aiming guns, the current system is independent of ship movement which is fantastically simple for most situations, however if the reticule were to move with the ship, it would allow gunners to better predict turning speed of ships and adjust their aim accordingly. This would be particularly useful for example on a galleon where there is no point of reference to calculate ship movement as it turns or accelerates. It would ofcourse be more difficult to master but could allow skilled gunners even more freedom to hone their art.

In a space sim, I could say yes, but in Guns, I'd have to say pass on this one. A lot of this is pilot/gunner coordination and it would just remove that entirely.

And I know you say toggle-able, but if one uses it, we all have to, to stay competitive.

I agree with zill.
Wouldnt fit to well.
And you can actually see a bid of your ships movement when you zoom out for a sec. That gives you a better feel of your own movement than u have when zoomed in.

I'd probably quit playing this game if there was an aim assist.

part of the challenge and fun is to learn it yourself. to adapt, to adjust, to feel part of a crew that is working for the same goal. Is it what everyone wants these days? prob not. I'd really not want this because then gunnering would be like letting tools do the aiming for you and you're just the finger that needs to push the mouse button when something tells you to.
What's the fun in that?
Also adding features like this could give cheaters a tool to use and script into something that would be on and always in use. Which is too high risk imo.

My point was that the gain already is using a form of aim assist, I want the option to disable it!

Oh i'm sorry geo. I misinterpreted the title and op. Then i agree with you. Having your own ship movement transfered realistically to the gun direction properly is a good idea, in fact that's the way it should be.

I assumed you meant aiming in regard to target getting an improvement or aid.
I've seen and played some games with aim-assists especially console ports so that's why the negative reaction. Thanks for correcting me and explaining.

The current 'aim assist' can be compensated for if you're skilled enough, but you need to be able to see the ship's hull so it's impossible to do when zoomed in too much. I'd suggest turning it off globally because it can be really annoying when the ship is turning quickly.
