Can there be some indicator somewhere to learn someone's nationality or language? To help with communication and joining crews that all speak the same language.

More like "I don't want to be in a crew that I can't communicate at all with".

Then we'll need a spoken languages tag, and not a nationality tag. No discrimination in that, other than discriminating monolinguals, and I think they can take it. I'd like to have German, English and Spanish represented next to my name :P I think it'd greatly help people who don't speak English to find their way around to Crews who speak their respective language, too.

I'd be happy with that. One reason for nationalities is finding local players. I've been on the lookout for Australian players and they're there, but I can't find them. Not everyone lives in the U.S...

By the way, the spoken languages and possibly a field for "Has Microphone/Headset" could be shown at that mouseoverfield that opens when one clicks on the nickname of another player, that one that shows the respective levels of that players roles.

Salute for your suggestion Kyren.
Knowing who is talking and who is not is very important information when I join a server and am picking who to fly with. Also icons for languages would help if just so I know who I can count on to follow my instructions.

What we need is something like the Auto-Translate Feature in Final Fantasy XI/XIV.

You would type a word and hit TAB to bring up a list of words in Brackets.
These bracketed words would be translated to the language corresponding to the client.
Then we create Chat Macros, so I can easily bind keys to macros containing Auto-Translated words to give commands.
Hell, add voice to the Auto-Translation and you close the gap between mic'd and non-mic'd players.

Also, language tags should show level of proficiency in that language. For example: 1st - Fluent, 2nd - Intermediate, 3rd - Basic. This information may be color coded - green for first level, yellow for second, red for third.

I know how to count to ten in Spanish.  I am now fluent in the language.

I have Left/Right/Forward/Back/Up/Down/Shoot/Repair/Hull/Balloon written in Russian on a piece of paper next to my desk.

I think that is enough to count my self as a basic Russian speaker, but I can't understand any of it.

And now that everyone's done being sarcastic, no.  It's simple enough to automatically label someone's native tongue based on region and giving them a checklist of languages they might also speak if they want to dig in the options, there's no need to make that question more complicated over a subjective matter.  Either you say you can speak a language or you can't, either you have enough confidence to play with native speakers or you don't.  Profeciency tags would ultimately mean nothing.

To be honest, the best solution I can see is just having quick voice (or chat) commands.  Having a bunch of flags next to everyone's names means you're identifying everyone by their nation first and foremost, there's a huge risk that that could spark some very nasty nationalism.  It's just that I can very much see the chat commands not covering enough or being too clunky for new and confused players to use.

+1 Helmic. But there is need for some quick-chat commands, like those, what is in, say Unreal Tournament, or Battlefield and etc.
