So,... this is a thing by NASA.

The hope of a strafing ship lies with NASA!

Apparently, our hope of drift parking lies with a little girl...  ::)

One can say that strafing already exist but the effects are so small you can barely see it. Ever turned your squid to avoid hitting a stationary obstruction at the last moment but you still end up drifting into it? That's what I'm talking about.

I originally suggested a new pilot tool, called it Greased Balloon that would reduce sideways friction to allow strafing. Effects can remain active for extra 3 seconds after deactivation so you can mix in other tool effects.

Strafing is a tactic that many ships in the game can do currently. Don't build ships around tactics build them around strategy.

If you want to fly a strafing ship fly a no ram pyra and make the side guns your primary side. engage fast from on high and use your strafing (Witch means a high speed fast gun run in air combat.) side to start a fast tight orbit around your enemy until you can escape out of combat.

You would need to use fast short range heavy damage guns and serious pilot balls but this is totally doable and would be incredibly rewarding.

The hardest part of strafing and the thing that would make it super interesting in GoI is having to plan your escape route so that you can escape quickly but also get back to the fight before the enemy can regroup.

What you guys are taking about is moving sideways. We should find a new name for movement in that dimension for ships.

Was thinking something more along the lines of other ship talk like "Coming about!" or "Heave!" or Letting it ride true!" but I guess "Lateral motion" would work lol.

Activate the lateral motion machine crewman! Let the beast slide!

There's been a talk of UFO (disc shaped ship).  Continue.

Squid + perfectly timed shot from a Mino with look good. Only impossible to pull of in-game. Not sure how a strafing ship would be useful though. xD

Not impossible, just needs at least four pilots and one mino gunner to go to a custom lobby and go in with AI crew, set ai to repairs, get the squid to race past the mino... What it could be used for I'm not sure though...

A side note, a squid while using phoenix claw that gets shot by a mino is hilarious. :)
