The Flotsam Dynasty Campaign

Theme:
Definition of FLOTSAM
1
: floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo; broadly : floating debris
2
a : a floating population (as of emigrants or castaways)<human flotsam>

The world of Icarus is punctuated by unending conflict. aboard airborne warships, battles are waged in the sky by the last of humanity, to prosecute wars for the ground. ‘Take and hold’ strategy still exists, and the ground is as valuable as airspace.
When Adventure Mode hits we’ll have epic conflicts between the world’s true factions, but until then, the ceaseless battles of clan warfare are more than enough to wet our appetites for destruction. Forget the Arashia, forget the Yeshans, this conflict is all about the Gentlemen, the Crows, the Zills, and even the Cakes.

Structure:
Definition of CAMPAIGN
1
: a connected series of military operations forming a distinct phase of a war

This event will take place over a six day period, starting on Monday, August 19th, and ending Saturday August 24th. There will be games every single day. Each day is assigned to a map, which represents a territory in the World of Icarus.Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are played at 9pm EDT, Tuesday and Thursdays are played at 6pm, and Saturday the match will begin at 4pm EDT. The weekday times were chosen to give the best access for the most players possible, while the Saturday time was picked because that’s the competitive standard used for Cogs. The order of matches is as follows:

Duel at Dawn – Monday 9PM
Paritan Rumble – Tuesday 6PM
The Labyrinth – Wednesday 9PM
Canyon Ambush – Thursday 6PM
Battle on the Dunes – Friday 9PM
Northern Fjords – Saturday 4PM

Teams are not required, or even expected to participate every day. Teams will sign up in the Registration thread, no later than Saturday the 17th 11:59PM EDT. When signing up, teams will list which days they want to participate in. Brackets will be made of appropriate size depending on how many teams sign up for each day. If only two teams sign up, it will be resolved as a best 2 out of 3 match. If three teams sign up, it will be a single elimination round-robin. If four or more teams sign up it will be a single elimination bracket.

There are no weapon restrictions. Each player can only play for one team each day. As long as this rule is not broken there are no substitution restrictions. The maps do not have a time limit, but if a match gets bogged down in a protracted battle, casters will move on to the next match. You do not need to pre-register ship builds. Color preferences disputes will be resolved by rock paper scissor via PM with the ref. 8 players are required for a team to play a match. Going idle so the AI will take over is not allowed and will result is disqualification.

Please bare in mind, that while the crew composition rules (as it relates to substitutes) in this tournament are very relaxed, if you want the tournament’s matches to count towards your New Competitive Scene points, your team composition will have to be up to their rules standards.

Reward:
Definition of DYNASTY
1
: a succession of rulers of the same line of descent
2
: a powerful group or family that maintains its position for a considerable time

At the completion of each day’s bracket, the winner will receive a title for the map they have claimed. That title identifies the team as the absolute champions of that map, the clear and undisputed rulers of that territory. They will also be given a graphic which they can post on their clan’s thread. There will be an additional thread which exists only to track which team has what titles. There are six titles, one for each 2v2 map.

Titles don’t end here. These titles are kept after this event ends. Teams will hold their title until it is taken from them. That’s right, it’s not enough to take a title, and you also have to defend it! A title is taken when the title holder loses an official scrimmage, Cogs or (participating) tournament match on the map they hold the title for. This is a long term competitive game system with implications for how clans compete, and the details of which are better covered in its accompanying thread.

In addition to the titles themselves, the team that wins the most titles during this special event will win 8 rare Guns of Icarus Online Steam backgrounds, and an in-game badge Muse is making just for this event. The only way to get this badge is by being The Campaign Champions.

While not a reward, it’s also worth saying, at the end of the Campaign, a short story recapping the highs and lows of the event will be written and illustrated in the style of a children’s novel. In this case, history is written for the victors.

What happens when two title holders scrimmage? Who determines which map they play on if they both want to force an Ambush?

And when does the event end? As in, when do the titles lock in permanently and the reward is given out?

That's a really interesting question naufrago, with exciting implications. The answer to that though is a significant "I don't know". I can pretty comfortably pass the buck to Keyvias, Cullen and Morbie on this one, since they run the Skirmishes and Cogs.

While we did come up with the titles, we wont be administrating them after this event, and it wouldn't be appropriate for me to set even more policy for events that I'm not organizing. It's actually possible that scenario could come up in this event, in that situation we would Rock - Paper - Scissors for it.

For your second question, again, I wont be administering the titles after the Flotsam Dynasty Campaign ends, so I wouldn't give you an answer, but conceptually in mind I just assumed it wouldn't end.

Oh jeez, i read the rules wrong. The reward is for the 6 day event, not the whole thing. Well damn. That 6pm est weekday start time is brutal.

EDIT: I know MM have some folks on the west coast, and some folks on the east coast who are just leaving work at the start time... then there's the COGs, unless it gets cancelled that week to make room for this?

Sigh. Was kinda interested in this event, too. Oh well.

Yeah, it's never been easy to find times that work for the most people. For weekdays, you obviously have to avoid the 9-5 eastcoast work day, but if it's too late in the evening it will prevent Europeans from playing. 6PM is after work hours for most of the American playerbase and still early enough that Europeans can play.

It cuts out the west coast. Central is just getting off work. EDT is potentially stuck in traffic.

Idea is great. To condense it like this, and at those times, is.....no.

I get trying to include everybody, and im not familiar with international time zones so im sure they will chime in on their own.

Well not everyone from every clan can play everyday which is what I think is to be expected for a tournament with matches taking place mid week however each title is claimed separately and there should be a good turnout for the 4pm Saturday event.

So why not do something like two of the weekdays at 8-9pm EST instead?

Yeah Imagine's is a good fix, Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be 9pm EDT. I'll change that as soon as I can talk a forum mod to edit the original post.

Blam. Done.

And remember everybody, you don't need to sign up for every single day. So with three days now at a later time that should work better for west coast players, you can sign up for whichever days work best for you.

Skrim, I don't think the tournaments will take that long.  We aim to get these done efficiently so players don't have to dedicate so much time on a weekday.
