Trusty Rusty Oil Can
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:06:07 am »
A engineering tool that would prevent piercing damage for 20 secs. Starts a 5 sec. repair cool down.

Maybe to knock the piercing modifier down to 1.0, instead of whatever it is currently. Even flamethrowers deal damage to chem sprayed parts. Just not much. Similarly, this would remove the extra effectiveness of piercing weapons, while not eliminating the damage entirely. Also, probably drop it to 10 seconds duration tops, so you have to really stay on top of it.

This would probably break the game, and make triple artemis *the* weapon choice of the future. Something that didn't depend on piercing.

20 seconds of near invulnerability that can be applied every 5 seconds...

In 20 seconds you could chem spray, oil can and mallet. Ships would never die.  Can't tell if this is serious or not.

I can't either... but if you treat it as serious until told otherwise - this raises the question (again) of whether there should be engineering tools that can reduce the effectiveness of certain types of damage. The only similar feature is how chem spray blocks fire stacks. However, it does not affect the damage done by fire weapons.

As interesting as it would be to have a set of tools that could be used that reduces damage taken from each damage type, it would sort of make the game even more engineer heavy, and would make build countering a lot more obnoxious, as your enemy would always take tools that reduced specifically your weapons' damage types.

No sure why this seems over powered and chem spray is not.

Ah it's a satire post trying to be an analogy of perceived over powered nature of chem spray

The issue is that it isn't a good analogy as flame stacks are not the same as the fire damage modifier.

What about an oil can that prevents all environment dust cloud damage for 45 seconds?

What about an oil can that prevents all environment dust cloud damage for 45 seconds?

Or what about a special oil can that reduces the damage caused by pilot tools like Moonshine and Chute Vent
