PvP Locked Content
« on: April 27, 2017, 12:08:46 pm »
"Just like PvE players, these new tools will have to be unlocked. To make sure everyone has the same opportunity, once 4,700 Alliance matches are played, this ship and weapon will become available.
Once unlocked everyone, Guns of Icarus Online and Alliance owners will be able to use Shrike and Tempest in PvP."     ----   Quote from Newsletter.

4700 matches as a community or per individual?  Im confused.

At present I'm still processing that PvP content is being locked behind PvE content.  This has my mind blown.  Im not sure I got the facts straight but all this time waiting for new ships or content for PvP and you lock it behind PvE?

Clarification would be appreciated.

This is 4700 matches as a community. Far too many people aren't event at 4700 lifetime Skirmish matches for this to be per individual.

This was probably done because in PvE, this ship requires unlock, and to me it makes sense that it needs to be unlocked before PvP usage as well.

Completely missed the point imho

It's actually a simple mechanism to hype up players and make them play more and spend more time logged in. It's mostly if not purely for marketing purpose and giving the player base a goal to strive for.

Clever Muse :)

Wouldn't call it exactly clever, but...

It's definitely a blunt way of increasing Alliance gameplay. A very blunt way of bringing people into Alliance.

Alliance already has far more people in it. No reason to draw people out of PvP. That was not the goal.

They thought it would be a fun way for the community to earn things for Skirmish instead of just dumping it in. There was no subversive plot to get more people playing PvE. This is not even a new thing. Payday, Elite, etc.

The things will be unlocked by this weekend at the rate it is going. Would it have been better to just wait until this weekend and say "Here ya go." I don't really think so. Some more depth to events would be welcome.
