What do you use Range Finder for?
« on: November 02, 2014, 02:05:36 pm »
Range Finder is probably the least used tool in the game.

I think the only use for it is when you are shooting a lumberjack or heavy flak. Even then, an experienced gunner can hit without a range finder.

Has anybody found a good use for the range finder? If so, what is it?

Nothing.  It's garbage.

Spotting achievements maybe.

Suddenly i was faced with using a hades.
Armed with nothing except a guide telling me how far away a shot would land at different divisions and with different ammo types.
I grabbed a range finder and bolted to practice mode and practiced.

To this day i can barely hit a hades. 0/10 wouldn't range find again.

Ive used it abid during my time with the gentlemen on a hades+2xlj Galleon but at the end of the day you dont really need it.
You can judge distance fairly well with using the map and squares if you got the knowledge.
And both ways need a gunner who knows the distance for each jot. In the end its better to have a third spyglass instead of a rangefinder onboard.

The range finder is in the game so that new players can make the mistake of bringing it instead of the spyglass. That stupid circle created by the range finder helps nobody aim any better. I can hit with all the guns as long as no one is using one of those.

Seriously, the range finder is another mistake muse never fixed.

The model is kinda cool though.
