Engine manufacturers?
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:48:33 am »

You might have noticed that the engines on each ship are built by a different company.
When one is destroyed, in the damage log it doesn't say "X destroyed engine" but rather "X destroyed Chung's Choice engine."

So, I was just trying to look up which ship has which kind of engine, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Any help?

I can remember three from the top of my head, but I'm not entirely sure about those either
-  Chung's choice (Galleon?)
- Lil' Deb (Squid?)
- Bengston industries

Don't some heavy engines have a different manufacturer than the light ones onboard?

The main engines are called heavy while the turning engines are called light. Both are from the same manufacturer.

Also, for anybody who didn't know, all of the engines are named for Muse employees.

i think these engine manufacturers (or manufacturing industrys)  should make an appearance in the adventure mode.
Every faction would have their engine manufacturers.

Also, for anybody who didn't know, all of the engines are named for Muse employees.

...and muse employees would be the owners of those industrys.

we would be able to buy new engines for our ships... (which propably isnt going to happen)

Really? Now that's an interesting easter egg right there ;) I'll keep a closer look on them from now on. The AI that is.

Interesting idea! It would be nice to have more than just cosmetical options for ship modification. Probably poses a problem with balance though. I guess it could be possible in Coop mode where you're only fighting AI...

Well these manufacturer names are hints about the factions making the ships. Chung's Choice for instance sounds Yeshan...

That's reading too far into it. It's really just a reference to Eric Chung, one of the devs.

I thought Eric grew up in Yesha before he moved to Chaladon.

That would actually throw in a bit more dynamic to ship performance during matches (heavy engines, more power slower acceleration, etc)

I like it. It'd give more depth and weighty world choice to assembling your ship, plus if Factions and economics get added then various drydocks could have needs to certain engines dependent upon what they're fixing and what their host faction is producing, for example Yeshans would have plenty of Goldfish and Pyr engines to work with but procuring a Mobula engine would be a tough sell, navigating chop shops and seedier player-run organizations.
