[4040] Plays Guns of Icarus - How Can I Improve My Videos
« on: October 21, 2013, 07:08:08 am »
Hi everyone, I am currently doing a Lets play series of this wonderful game. I love the steam punk theme and decided to do a youtube series of myself and Team Tuxedo derping around.

I would love your input on how you feel i can ether improve my content (with better editing, commentary or game play) or what you would like to see me do in the future. Ive included the link to my playlist and would love to see any tips or advice you feel i can use :)

I would recommend trying to not play in the beginners lobbies. While they are useful for just being in the game, the fact that it is just a bunch of people who have never played the game with loads of restrictions means you see a very limited version of the game. While it may seem daunting to take your team out of these lobbies, the community of Guns of Icarus Online is one of the more polite communities I know. The best way to learn this game is playing with expereinced players and teams/clans. Play some matches with some Ducks and we will gleefully tell you everything you did wrong :)

Keep with it and hope to see you in the skies.

If you're up for some real "Dafuq just happened" moments, join the Cakes.

We're a bunch of friendly arsonists.

The problem with joining the Cake's is they only accept applications if it's your Birthday...  :P

B.T. is right though, if you want to get some really good, competitive and exciting videos, you should leave the beginner's matches. Your ship loadouts are locked to 6 set builds. These are good, trusted builds to make sure you're at least going to have a good setup with your basic ships, but it is a little limiting.

If you want, shoot me a pm and we can arrange a time where I'll actually join you in a beginner's match and give you a run-down of all the basics you and your crew needs to know. You can even record it and make it like a tutorial vid for your channel. I can then show you what a competitive game would be like by setting something up with a few clans. Hit me up if you're interested.

First thing you'll want to keep in mind is that when joining the none beginner lobbies, is that a bit more will be expected of you, this has only really surfaced with the beginner lobbies, anyways onto the important bit.

That is you will more likely have a lot more losses then in the beginner lobbies, this is to be expected and shouldn't discourage you, trust me, we've all had our fair share of losses, look at what happened during the match see if there is anything you can do better, if you have any questions about builds, ship choices, tools, or anything in particular don't hesitate to send a question my way via PM or post a thread about in the appropriate section of the forum for the community to answer, however I would also recommend looking through the guides that have been written and see if there is anything you can learn there.

remember you are asking a very dedicated and active part of the community. A lot of us have invested a large amount of time into the game.

So first off I'd say you need to find a goal for your video. Is it just a lets play style? or is it informative and new player friendly, or do you want to do something highly competitive and teambased videos.

Most of us would tell you that the first 2 categories we have no interest in personalyl watching, because we already know the basics, and if we want some casual gameplay we just seek it ourself ingame.

The competitive teambased side is however more interesting. This is why sunday rumble at the moment have 40-50 viewers every sunday following the weekly tournament.
also the polaris (formerly TGS) did something on goio, it wasnt a random match, but instead it was a competitive scrimmage which had some success.

It's a hard question though, because goio don't really produce that much of interesting youtube videos. There is not much to the game when you realize it's just a deathmatch mode. (ofcourse there are other gamemodes).
But in the end the long waiting time in between fights is more intens and fun when you are inside the game and playing, instead of watching someone play it on youtube. I don't think there is a broad interest in watching a random pub match as you played in. However indepth commentary on playstyles and perhaps from a spectator perspective could be interesting. Another thing that could be interesting is a sort of youtube series where a commentator contacts various clans and ask them to take him onboard, and he'll fly with them in a scrimmage vs some other team.
