Well it wouldn't unbalance it if there was a chance the flames would blow back and damage the one using tar. There are far too many players just flying around with tar left on. A massive flame explosion which would dmg their ship instantly would prevent this.

The biggest issue would be slow down of the game and fps issues. Massive amounts of tar igniting can't be good for the fps or servers.

In theory you could alter the tar particles to reduce and then flicker instead of adding more particles on top, keeping relatively the same load in regards to graphics resources. Also if flame caused the tar to dissipate almost instantly in comparison to how it hangs around now, it could increase performance overall for everyone.

I would be setting tar on fire just to get rid of it.

Seconded.

I've put "-popupwindow" as a launch option but see no difference, is this a MS windows thing?

I imagine part of the lack of variety has to do with optimisation in regards to the physics engine, etc.

However, good point.

I think Mr. Mask is onto something, maybe custom 'server rules' which allow for mechanics to be played with but nothing is counted towards achievements.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Licensed Music on Ships?

I understand where you are coming from with this, especially being a swing dancer myself.

However, I think it would be great if the music could be directly linked to say ogg format files so the music can be altered client side if desired. Personally I've been listening to beats antique whilst playing guns of icarus online. :)

If this isn't half obvious, I would really appreciate a faction or tribe based around dinosaurs, similar to dinotopia but not infringing on copyright.

Gameplay / Re: GUNS Balance Questions and Concerns v1.2

This sort of removes the point of a Carronade.
-Light Carronade
--Changed pitch angles (-40 to 35 changed to -30 to 10, skewed towards upwards aiming)
-Heavy Carronade
--Changed pitch angles (-20 to 35 changed to -30 to 10, skewed towards upwards aiming)

Not at all. It just means the pilot has to maintain a closer altitude to the target, rather than lazily hovering above and relying on the turning arc to carry the build.

A much 'closer altitude', aka the same altitude because gun can not point down at all. At which point might as well use gat + flak or hwacha/anything else because popping a balloon is no where near as effective as direct damage or disabling most of the time.

Just would like to refocus the discussion on ships and not guns. That is all.

How about putting clan tags on the ship balloons, maybe with a bump map?

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Voice command on ship ?
« on: May 11, 2013, 08:07:43 am »
The whole Tribes series shows how usefully 'VGS' really is, it isn't just about having a mic,.
For example it is much easier to tap three keys. Opposed to holding down voice whilst turning, adusting speed and height.
In addition if you have text come out at the same time as voice it helps those without or with poor speakers.

I would very much like to see this implemented, if you got creative you could even have taunts.

If you think about it there already is a replay viewer of sorts, spectator mode.

However, I'm not going to be so bold as to assume what would be the hardest part to develop.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Website/forum chat
« on: April 27, 2013, 10:05:08 pm »
I suggest a realtime chat for the website/forum. It could be IRC, it could be AJAX, although I think a lot of people are biased towards IRC.

Linking into the in-game chat would be a bonus. Since you're already linking in our accounts, it sounds do-able, with some extra elbow grease. Then again I know nothing of how the in-game chat works.

From a web-developer's perspective (not related to muse at all) there is always a way of doing webchat. However, generally it is not cost effective with benefit vs effort. I might be surprised but I doubt muse would implement this.

@Clara Skyborn
I would love to give steam chat more love but steam group chat on linux breaks my entire window manager. :/
