My crew can normally get around this because we're all in TS together, but it's still quite frustrating when you have a full lobby trying to figure out who's bringing what, and you can't hear your own teammates. I have even gone in and muted GoI while I figure out what's going on in TeamSpeak. It would be nice to toggle even just the opponent's voice chat, or just my own ship's voice chat. The only problem is this might be abused.

In the end, I normally just use the text crew-chat and for the especially stubborn gunner who I'm trying to tell to go engi, a PM normally works pretty well since it pops up on their screen.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Please, Remove Profle's Leave Count

or because Grandma picked up the phone line while you were dialed into AOL yet again.

Son, you have a strange and wonderful way with words...

I agree with Dragonmere here, I need to know the reliability of my co captains. However, I really only look at it for lower level players. I'll be honest, the higher your rank, the more I'm going to initially trust you. If I see a level 1 or 2 captain with over 2 dozen leaves (seen it), I'm probably going to ask you to not be my co captain. Then again, if a level 5 or higher joins in, I probably won't even care what his or her number is until they give me a reason to doubt them. I don't think the leave count is that big of a deal, I just think everyone needs to take this stat with a grain of salt.

I've had my game crash on me twice now, and so now I've got leaves. Oh well, I'm not sweating over it.

Gameplay / Re: Drogue Chute
« on: October 19, 2013, 04:11:00 am »
A lotta times I'll bring it with my Junker build for a secondary reason. Yes, the junker's balloon is a huge target and goes down easily to caronades, but often I'm loading up with 2 or 3 artemis launchers, so I throw out the chute passively when going for long range disable shots. The cut to the engine output allows me to make micro-corrections and adjustments on the helm without throwing off my gunner's shots too much. I've found it helps, especially when all of the enemy's guns/engines are out at long range, and then we swoop in for the easy kill.

General Discussion / Re: Hey guys! (Buff Bug craziness)

...smart people who want to learn a thing or two from the wolves :-P

...and people who need to cover their butts for making such a big public display calling another group out. I do appreciate this correction. It takes a lot to admit a mistake, now let's put it all behind us. I think this community has had enough mudslinging and airing of dirty laundry for now.

After much research and consideration, I have come to the official conclusion that God does in fact Will It.

The Lounge / Re: Introducing the new CAs!
« on: October 07, 2013, 02:52:26 pm »
Hey guys! I am NoWuffo. I'm a pilot/engi, I fly with the Cohort, and I'm commonly seen with Dragonmere... I swear our relationship is platonic, however there is a rumor floating around that we went to prom together.

So yeah, I'm a pretty normal guy, I like helping others out with this game, I like long walks on the beach, and I like the idea of helping the devs because I could see myself one day being a game developer. I'm still in college/university right now, so when I'm online revolves kinda around that. I'm also a bartender part time so if you want a drink come on down to my bar! I'm open to any advice or anything to help me help others, and I'm willing to help out with any training sessions anyone has planned, so hit me up.

See you in game! Blue Skies...

Gameplay / Re: Authenticity vs. Realism in our Weapons
« on: September 22, 2013, 03:35:37 pm »
In terms of "Hollywood Realism" (to borrow the phrase from Helmic), I think you guys have pretty much got it. No one's going to actually believe that if you use Moonshine on engines that you'll get a tremendous speed boost. Yet at the same time, I can totally believe that adding hydrogen to a balloon will introduce a chance of the balloon catching fire. It's fun intricacies like that make the experience believable. I feel like I'm flying a steampunk war airship, even though I know it couldn't possibly exist. I'd almost argue that TF2 isn't a good comparison, because the universe that you've thrown players into is far more unique than the cartoony FPS that TF2 does, and yet you guys still nail it in terms of feeling authentic. In summary, good job, keep it up.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: cloud and lightning gameplay
« on: September 19, 2013, 04:48:59 am »
For me, I think the mix between solid obstacles (Rocks, walls, objects) and gas obstacles (clouds) is a good combination to yield many offensive and defensive options. All of one or the other would leave most pilots wanting more. Sometimes ducking behind a pillar is what can save a ship from going down, and clouds can break line-of-sight to allow sneak attacks or ambushes.

Also, Plasmarobo had a good point about flares in an all-cloud map. They'd be rendered pretty much completely useless, because they'd light as soon as you fired them, illuminating you to the enemy, rather than illuminating the enemy as you'd want. Remember kids, there's a big difference between peeing in the pool, and peeing INTO the pool.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Outline on text in game?
« on: September 19, 2013, 04:40:52 am »
That could be rather useful, though I'd have it as an option rather then a major part of the UI
Yeah I'd say having it as an option would be a much better option. But over all I agree with this, especially for the colorblind people out there! :)

General Discussion / Re: adventure mode
« on: May 23, 2013, 01:54:11 pm »
I am completely behind Dragon on this one. Disregard the fact that I'm normally piloting in the ship next to him most nights. I'm serious though, it is a little annoying when we get a good crew together from our clan, assemble 2 fully loaded ships, and just wreck shop in a regular match with lower level players. So we do 2 things to combat this. We search out the Changos and the Admiral Zils to fly against and get some really good games going, and we also host mini training sessions.

Tutorials are nice, but nothing helps new players as much as having someone sit down and explain winning strategies, and then see a noticeable difference in how they perform the next match. I've had players thanking me for giving them the standard kill-ship pyra or junker and advice on how to fly it well, they come out feeling so much better and enthused about the game because they feel like they can actually do things well now. Of course, trolls will be trolls and ducks will be ducks, but I'm talking specifically to the people who might not know better, yet want to.

For me, I think as all things, moderation is key. Not telling someone what you feel about their build loadout might be stripping them of a learning ability. But yelling at them to change because "they're so stupid how do you even call yourself a gamer blah blah blah" isn't going to do anyone any good. People will just leave, or stay with their loadout out of spite. I normally ask other pilots or crew if they would like some advice. I've held up a match from starting for 5 minutes and ran through some good strategies, and boom the next match was way better and everyone came out on top. My point is, just be helpful to other players, don't be a dick, and let's try to get everyone to become better players!

Salous found me when I was just messing around with the game and first starting to get good at piloting. We picked up and formed a good crew with various other players, and we decided to bring the Cohort into Guns of Icarus. Ever since then, I've enjoyed a standard set of people crewing my ship, knowing how I fly and how to get good effective kills. They've taught me a lot, I've taught them a lot. Honestly, if you want a good competitive crew to roll with, give us a shot. If nothing else, I guarantee you'll come out of it a better player, even if you decide you don't want to stick with us. If you do want to stick it out, you'll end up having a good time! Look forward to having some of you on my ship!
