The Docks / Re: Zill's Merry Men
« on: July 22, 2014, 09:46:05 am »
A note to all my Merry friends: Make sure to check your email or the Steam Group regularly (now would be a good time to start). We're making moves, taking names, chewing bubblegum, mixing metaphors AND references, etc., and these are our main ways of communicating with you in a permanent, visible way.

A note to everyone else: Hey, how's it going? Hope you're having a great day.

Stay Merry, GoIO.

Q&A / Re: Map scales
« on: July 22, 2014, 09:15:35 am »
This is something I've been wanting to do for a while, I just haven't found time or enough willing people to help. The one thing to be careful of is to make sure you're at the same level as the ship you're range finding, otherwise you'll be measuring a longer distance, because math. Staying at max ceiling height should make sure both ships are level.

The Docks / Re: Looking for a clan.

Well, you've come to the right board then. There are many clans that are actively recruiting, I recommend checking out their threads and seeing if there are any that appeal to you. The threads should also give you a better idea of who is in the clan so you can seek them out in game.

World / Re: Fjord Baronies
« on: July 06, 2014, 05:46:36 pm »
It's obvious, since people from the Nether Lands in our society are called the Dutch then people from the Fjord Lands would be called the Butch.

There solved it, they're all called Butch.

That right there my friends is called Science.

Gameplay / Re: Spire Changes?

What has shifted in the meta that made the goldfish more common? Less artemis spam? Or was it just something people were scared to try but could have worked all along. And shouldn't we expect near perfect engineering from competitive? They always say this is "the highest level of play."

Less artemis spam for sure. The triple-art junker was a death sentence for anything with a heavy gun due to the long rebuild time. Even with perfect engineering there's nothing you can do about the constant time it takes to rebuild a heavy, especially when it's very likely to immediately be shot out again.

Q&A / Re: Match Making (Friends and Blocked)
« on: July 01, 2014, 10:57:39 pm »
I'm hoping it will just take the block list into account. That way Gilder can still play with people.

There are people Gilder hasn't blocked?

Q&A / Re: Pilot Costumes

I don't want to get off topic but what about a beer helmet?

I require a classy, steampunk beer helmet with gears and steam and things.

General Discussion / Re: I am Elite

I beg to differ
Spud, you are Elite,
You are so damn elite
that your voice can transform
even the greenest of players
into hardened professionals.
You make war machines from junkyard scrap.
When your ship lifts off,
death cancels his vacation plans.

The Docks / Re: Zill's Merry Men
« on: June 05, 2014, 09:44:12 pm »
Sorry, I was posting while in the lobby on my tablet and didn't read the whole Merry Men manifesto! To answer the questions systematically:

In-Game Name: Zeuce
Steam Name: lordfartman1
Preferred Class: Pilot (learning to love all of them with a good pilot though)
Answer: If you came over to my house for dinner, I would pan fry you (bear with me; I actually have these in my fridge right now) a garlic-stuffed kangaroo burger ensconced in a thin layer of wild boar meat for richness, with organic spring mix, salted tomato, and a wheat bun, with your choice of fine teas and raw, unfiltered honey.

Best,
Zeuce

Where do you live? I want that right now. I love boar.

Hey friends, thanks for the interest! Be sure to add RearAdmiralZill, Shinkurex, Dimometer, Imagine, TwoLeftSocks, Yiski, and/or myself next time you're in-game. Hop in a game with any of us so we can find out if you're the kind of raving lunatics we're looking for. We'll keep an eye out for you guys too.

(That burger sounds delicious, though it might be a bit too spicy for me.)

I'm on a bus right now and all these images are getting replaced by the Greyhound logo. I find it somewhat surreal, or maybe it's just the sleep deprivation speaking.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days/Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place -  (it has two names). Absolutely beautiful graphics, and touching story.

If you liked Promised Place, I highly recommend watching some of Makoto Shinkai's other films, especially 5 Centimeters Per Second and Voices of a Distant Star. I like to pair these with The Girl Who Lept Through Time and have a marathon.

Paranormal Agent is probably the most mature anime along with being super deep. Kiddies that expect an obvious story cant and will not understand paranormal agent, but i like it when they make it as deep and creative as Paranormal Agent did and it satisfied me and tought the end was fitting.

I think (or at least hope) you're referring to Paranoia Agent. If so, excellent choice. Satoshi Kon was such an amazing director, every single one of his works is a crazy look at the human psyche and are just amazing. His works are all very literary: there's always layers of meaning and an active conversation in the themes and symbols. There's always some kind of commentary about our modern world interwoven in his works that leaves you with more to chew on than just the plot of each movie or series. I really wish he hadn't died so early.

If you haven't, I highly recommend all of his films, but Paprika especially. The soundtrack and the amazing visuals are incredible.

And, obviously, movies, like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Hotaru no Haka, and Toshio Suzuki's movies:
Howl no Ugoku Shiro
Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi
Mononoke Hime

Huh, I've never seen anyone reference those as anything but Hayao Miyazaki films. I had to look up who Suzuki is (he's the producer, for those interested). The english names for the listed films are Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.

As a side note, I had the chance to see Princess Mononoke in a theater recently, a nearby museum was putting on a Miyazaki month and had obtained the original 35mm reels. It was a really cool experience.
