I also would love to see some of the 'old guard' come back, the stories I've heard about 'the old gents', 'the old ducks', old school OVW, Zill's merry men, etc. The return of these teams would be very exciting :D

MM is still around. Whenever we do compete, it's usually with most of the same members from the Floatsam Dynasty Era. It's just kind of hard to maintain the same level of interest in a game for over a year, so we don't play random PUGs as often. We've never been big on organized practices, so when we do compete we're not quite the well oiled machines of balloon-born death we once were. We still do fairly well, but the teams that put in the time and play together a ton tend to outperform us.

The Merry Men have a mine-only lobby running most Mondays. I think there's one up now, in fact.

I'm not sure if this is true anymore, but a while back there was a tournament where it was just a pilot and three AI on each side. Squash, the winner, had this to say about the AI's ammo type behavior:

Good question, what I realised halfway through the tournament is AI have ammo types just like human crew, AI engineers seem to have burst, and AI gunners have 3, I can't remember which but I know one of them is heavy. But they'll only use that ammo if you preload it for them, so the key was loading heavy clip on the gattling and keeping the gunner on it.

I think this may have been before the changes to reloading, so it's probably changed since then.

It's been a long time since I was a powder monkey -- is spanner the default tool for gunners?  I see so, so, so many powder monkeys join matches carrying a spanner, and I always advise them on why they should have a wrench instead, and this leads me to believe that for some reason spanner is the default tool you get in your loadout when you start playing.  The only time a gunner might conceivably have a spanner is if they're doing those darn rebuild/repair guns with spanner achievements (which basically promote playing the game ineffectively and are some of the lamest achieves).

Yeah, spanner is the default. It's really awful.

Hey Renaulade,

Feel free to look up myself, earAdmiralZill, Shinkurex, Yiski, Dimometer, or TwoLeftSocks in game, we'd love to get a chance to play with you for a bit!

That Ear Admiral Zill, always causing trouble. You can also look for me. While I don't play as much anymore due to working waaaaay too much, I still help lead MM. Startups, am I rite?

Also, I only came to this thread because I thought it read "Start screaming!".

Which could potentially be another way to making streaming interesting.

My problem isn't the diesel punk, its only the ineffectiveness of using a Tesla coil as a weapon. Also that diesel punk, isn't cyber punk where some form of arcing energy weapon would feel appropriate.

Tesla is too old fashioned for Cyberpunk. Think of the future if imagined from the 80s and you have cyberpunk in all it's glory. Full VR dives, lots of neon, trenches and wrap-around sunglasses. I'm apparently a fool for anything with punk at the end, since the only thing I love more than steampunk is Cyberpunk.

Tesla-style electric weapons could fit in a steam/dieselpunk world. See http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/ for a whole bunch of crazy examples. Their setting is a whole lot crazier than GoIO's, so maybe it's not the best example.

And remove those spinning flashing circles that show you where to shoot if you want to miss the enemy ships.

Yes please. Zill started taking rangefinder instead of spy glass occasionally, and while knowing the exact range is nice the spinning circle of miss is rather annoying.

You can zoom the spyglass with the scroll wheel, which I find really useful. After I do a sweep without the spyglass I do one with the medium zoom when we're blundering around  looking for the enemy. The zoom visibility bug is really annoying though.

I played with Ariden tonight. We exchanged cocktail recipes, and I now have a shopping list of boozey happiness for this weekend.

My main contribution: The Maximus family Southern Manhattan.
  • 2 shots Southern Comfort (or other whisky)
  • 1 shot dry vermouth
  • fresh lemon juice, about 1/4-1/2 a lemons worth.
Garnish with a lemon twist. Serve into a tumbler over ice.

It's the perfect drink for a hot summer's night.

I start every competitive match by shouting "MURDER MURDER MURDER!"

The proper response is "KILL KILL KILL!" It's incredibly inspirational.

Surette's really the only one that will do it with me though, so I usually end up doing both the call and response myself...
