It scales with achievement level. I don't know the exact scaling, but it's about 1.5-2k per achievement level.

Also note that as of the last time I got an achievement (a few weeks ago……) the post-game experience bar was bugged and wouldn't show the experience gained from the achievement.

I don't feel like locking new players to novice would be a good idea. I really liked playing with skilled players when I first joined--before novice matches existed--and getting to learn from and make friends with the best people around was part of what kept me coming back to the game. Besides, it's annoying.

Also, sometimes your team isn't going to get what's going on and you'll lose, but that's not the end of the world. In my experience once you explain how the mode works most people pick it up pretty quickly
