Gameplay / The Llamatron 2.0, the numbers game of GOIO
« on: February 03, 2015, 10:20:48 pm »
The Llamatron 2.0

Some of you may know Illmatar as a god of the Hades. We know him as that too but we also know him as our spreadsheet maker. Also for awhile I knew him as Llamatar due to me being fantastic with nicknames. While the nickname never caught onto him, it did catch onto his invention. For quite a bit now we've had a nifty little google spreadsheet where you could just choose the ship, gun, and a few other factors and we'd get some crunched out numbers. However since this was a google spreadsheet and anyone with access to it could use it and functionally only one person could use it at a time we kept it somewhat exclusive to the Ducks.

Well no more. Illmatar has worked out a website where these numbers are done on your own end. We decided we wanted to share this with the community. So I present to you The Llamatron 2.0

We pull the numbers directly from a spreadsheet on the Muse site. While the numbers are up to date there are some oddities of some names. So to clarify a few options in the spreadsheet;

- Flak Cannon is the Heavy Flak
- Portable Flak is the Light Flak
- Medium Carronade is the Heavy Carronade
- Magma is the Hades
- Missile Sling is the Artemis
- Rocket Launcher is the Carousel
- Small Howitzer is the Mercury
- Splinter is NOTHING! It doesn't exist. Don't get excited as this has been taking up space for as long as we've been looking.

One day we will probably get this fixed though we hope maybe Muse will one day.

There will be a few updates to this as we go forward. Illmatar is negotiating with the AI trying to get a damage table so you can know things like Damage per second, clip, and/or shot against different components. Whenever Muse updates their spreadsheets, so do ours. If there is an issue with blanks or errors, refresh a few times. If  issues persist, you have any suggestions, or if you want to tell Illmatar anything there is a suggestion area.

We hope you will all enjoy and find it useful in ship building.

Gameplay / Buffing Guns
« on: December 23, 2014, 03:50:27 am »
Was the huge buff intentional? Same damage, same time to buff but now lasting for 20 seconds.

Is this the first step to a massive nerf following a big buff or something?

Feedback and Suggestions / Duel at Dawn Spawns
« on: November 23, 2014, 05:09:43 pm »
Outside of the common issue of ships choosing the same spawn and spawning inside of each other. The current spawns are currently horrendously unfair. If a team gets a good sweep on the charge and is in the enemy spawn they can pick off the respawns ridiculously easily. We've seen the issue come up several times in competitive, often compounded by the spawn bug.

Please make more spawns, I personally liked how duel had no dedicated spawn sides due to its tiny size.

Feedback and Suggestions / Tweaking recomended loadouts.
« on: November 07, 2014, 04:18:23 pm »
I love this feature, been waiting for it for as long as I've played the game. However I got a few problems with it. Mostly they are old man problems.

I'm too set in my ways to accept the engineer loadouts because I have mine in a different order.

I've been told my order of tools is weird (1. Mallet 2. Chem Spray 3. Shifting Spanner 4. Spyglass). Its a complete muscle memory issue. So when I get a loadout suggestion, I have to look at it, study it, decline, then change to bring the tools in my order.

Proposed change.

Three options
1. Accept
2. Decline
3. Customize

What this third button does is send you to the character selection for the class the captain wants. Have in the corner a place where it could display what the captain wants. And then boom boom boom. As you select the tool, it somehow marks on the display some cofnirmation (like turning the box green). Once you hit save changes, a captain gets either an accepted (all boxes) or declined, (not all boxes) notification.

This is not a long thought out idea so bear with me. I've been thinking again about the carronade and various proposed fixes that wouldn't start another tired conversation about the gun that is completely overpowered or underpowered based on the situation when I realized I may be looking at the wrong side of the equation. So I began thinkning about potential buffs to defense against carronades like armored balloons, increasing upward arcs of gats and mortars and so on. However this idea struck me earlier today and I wanted to get the community's thoughts.

The Question

What if damage to a downed balloon did not transfer to hull or had a reduced transfer to hull.

Now as I am sure you are all aware, when the balloon is downed all damage done to the hit marker of the balloon gets counted as a damage to the armor and hull. What if this didn't happen, either entirely or partially. Quick, to the conjecture corner!

The potentially good
1. Balloon popping would still be a useful zoning technique.
2. Balloon blocking would be a bit more awesome
3. Ships like the every ship other than pyramidion wouldn't be hard countered by the existence of a carronade in the match

The potentially bad
1. This could be a bit of a nerf to carronades and lumberjacks
2. But where does the damage go?

For me though when I am in combat and I lose my balloon, I'm not thinkning of the really crappy fact that I am now falling out of the fight and that my ally is all alone. Instead, I am focused on selfish fears, that I am now super vulnerable to gat mortars. Surely zoning in of itself should be a useful advantage. It already sucks to not have a working balloon on an airship, can't that be enough?

My proposal, and this may be a better idea for dev app testing, is try a few things

No damage transference
Reduces by X% damage transference
Different damage multipliers for shots hitting a downed balloon.

Community Events / The Silver Playoffs!
« on: July 23, 2014, 02:03:39 pm »

Here we go people THE SILVER PLAYOFF!

Match A will be on Battle on the Dunes between Overwatch in the red spawn and Museosaurus in the blue spawn

Match B will be on Paritan Rumble beween The Art of Warfare in the red spawn and Sacrilege in the blue spawn.

Match C will be on Duel at Dawn between the winner of A in red spawn and Sky Invading Rhinos in blue spawn.

Match D will be on Northen Fjords between Clamour in red spawn and Deadpool's Army in blue spawn.

Match E will be on Duel at dawn between the winner of B in red spawn and Mad Hatters in blue spawn.

Match F will be on Canyon Ambush between Black Flight Squadron in blue spawn and Cake in red spawn.

Match G will be on Paritan Rumble between the winner of D in red spawn and the winner of C in blue spawn.

Match H will be on Battle on the Dunes between the winner of E in red spawn and the winner of F in blue spawn.

Match I (finale) will be on Northern Fjords between the winner of G in red spawn and the winner of H in blue spawn.

Note, initially we messed up the seeding between OVW and DPA, while OVW had more kills, DPA did win their head to head against OVW and therefore seeded above. Matches are still of BO1 with 30 minute time limit, however no set times, we will just be playing the next round as soon as possible. If match hits 30 minutes at a tie, sudden death, if 15 more minutes pass, most recent team to get a kill advances. The two teams in the finale will advance to the Golden Playoffs though the winner will get prizes for winning the silver! I am so amazingly pumped for this, lets make it a tournament to remember.

General Discussion / No... I promise you, that is not how that works
« on: July 18, 2014, 10:19:12 am »
We all have plenty of stories of players fundamentally misunderstanding various aspect of the game. While I don't celebrate mocking the ignorant, there will always be those that just refuse to be taught. This is a place for compiling stories about those people, people that allow good advice to fall on deaf ears. This is not a place to laugh at a new player bringing burst for a chain gun, this is a place to laugh at a player that can't be dissuaded from bringing burst and argues passionately for it. Ya dig? No names but please give levels.

I'll start.

A bit ago I had a player who brought moonshine, kerosene, and phoenix claw. I was inquiring about this (it wasn't CP and we were on a mobula) and he decided to describe to me the tools.

Phoenix buffs turn speed for no damage
Kerosene buffs turn speed more for some damage
Moonshine (correct) increases speed, reduces turns, much damage.

I tried explaining to him several times how he was wrong about Kero and Phoenix, but he kept on insisting on his distinction and after many calls for "Doing a kerosene turn" I had to shut this down. I went back to a turn engine and asked him to leave Phoenix on for a bit. As he watched as the engine died he yelled at me for sabotaging his engines and he promptly left the game.

Level 6 pilot.

(Inspired by optical shot an ammo suggestion by Richard LeMoon)

Both launchers work in the same way mine launchers work though with longer range.

Mirror Launcher, shoots mirrors attached to balloons, either cylinders or rotating flat shapes, these would allow you (and the enemy) to see around corners. Also giving them shatter damage could be hilarious for those who accidentally run into them (I can't get on the gun, its covered in broken mirror shards!) Lets you shoot x amount of mirrors before they shatter themselves.

Major problem, I don't know much about coding for games, but I have a feeling that mirrors are pretty hard.

Camera Launcher, shoots a camera attached to the balloon out into the field. Give it tiny little thrusters to allow it to slowly spin on its axis. But wait, you cry, this is steam punk we can't wireless control this thing! That is why a second shot is needed, the cable shot. Basically after you've set up a camera, you have to hit it again with a cable shot, I think having it be an ammo type would be the best way to differentiate between shooting or possibly a piloting tool as after all, these have a similar role to spyglasses and range finders. Once you're connected boom start sending images back to the ship. Now because this is steam punk and for balance, these images need to be bad. Black and white, blurry, hell maybe even upside down as they've not been processed. I'm sure inventive types could come up with a solution.
