Community Events / Winterfest 2013 Signups (Dec 28th-29th)

This thread is for those of you who already have your team/ship organized and would like to reserve your place at the front of the line. Signups will continue all day during the event, so you can show up at any time. The earlier you show up, the more times you'll get to play. Winterfest starts at 3pm EST on Saturday, and 1pm EST on Sunday, and will continue each day for as long as we have matches. Point accumulation will be tracked automatically and there will be a separate thread created for prize redemption after the event.

Please include the following information in your post:

The in-game name of the captain (optional: Steam/Skype handle)
Whether you are registering one or two ships; if you register one ship you will be paired with the next single ship when your turn comes up
Which days you are planning on playing
(optional) Team name

The map pool is as follows: Battle on the Dunes, Canyon Ambush, Duel at Dawn, Northern Fjords, Paritan Rumble. The time limit rule continues to be in effect.

Community Events / Winterfest 2013: The Icarus Carnival (Dec 28th-29th)

Winterfest 2013 is a community event inspired by the concept of a holiday carnival. It is a drop-in/drop-out event where crews compete in a number of "carnival game modes", rolled at random from predefined ship compositions and loadouts, and earn points to redeem for items in the Guns of Icarus store.

Winterfest will take place over a two day period, with start times on December 28th at 3pm EST, and December 29th at 1pm EST. Each day will run for as long as there are competitors, to a maximum of four hours.

This event will use a queue system for signups. You can sign up as either a crew (4 players) or a team (8 players), and the games will be run on a first-come first-served basis starting at the top of the queue. The queue will open to registration one hour before the scheduled start time for each day (there will be a separate thread for this purpose). After you've played your game, you are free to requeue at the bottom.

The current status of the queue will be available on the Community eSports website during the event.

The mode for each game lobby will be randomly generated from these three components: 1) the map, from the full 2v2 pool; 2) the ship composition the teams will run; 3) a loadout framework pulled from several specific to that composition.

Example 1: Duel at Dawn, Galleon and Goldfish, Lumberjack/Flak left side Galleon and Hwacha Goldfish
Example 2: Labyrinth, Mobula only, Mine Launchers only

There will be a hard 30 minute time limit on all games. When the time limit is reached, the game will be a draw and the participating players will recieve the 1 participation point.

Games that takes place during Winterfest will award 3 points to each member of the winning team, and 1 point to the other team. Points are tracked on a per-player basis.

After the event, the points will be tallied and each player will be able to redeem them for various cosmetic items from the Guns of Icarus store. 1 point for a dye, 2 points for goggles/headgear, 4 points for a torso piece. A prize claim thread will be created for this purpose upon conclusion of Winterfest.

The entirety of the event will be streamed on Twitch. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post in this thread or contact me directly.

Community Events / Anvalan Conflict Champion: The Gentlemen

We started with fourteen teams last month, and now only one is left standing. Congratulations to The Gentlemen for taking the Anvalan Conflict Mail-In Classic!

In round one we saw them face off against the Riders, and despite the Riders having made their competitive debut one week prior to the tournament starting, they put up a strong fight with a number of impressive engages. In round two they met Zill's Merry Men. Zill executed a very effective Squid rush-down in the first game on Canyon, but was unable to find similar success on the following maps. In the semifinals their opponent was The RAFT. The highly aggressive style of this Duck team was a poor match against the defensive posturing of the Gents, and we had a three-zero victory sending our fancy victors to the finals. Unfortunately after multiple technical issues, the Paddling decided to forfeit the finals match and was unable to reschedule.

Despite the finals match not being played, The Gentlemen defeated very strong opponents throughout the tournament and they are our champion! I would like to give thanks to all the teams who participated in the event: you produced some of the best matches this game has seen. A special thanks to our casters: Brick Hardcastle, Papa Paradox, Imagine, and Frogger. They supplied us with on-point and entertaining commentary for the many time slots played over the course of the event. Thanks to Muse for providing prize support, including the custom badge created for the champion.

I'm planning a winter-themed event to run over one or two days during December. It will be more casual than the other events I've been running, and likely will use a non-standard structure or game format. A light-hearted competition. I know for many of you this will coincide with "winter break", which can be beneficial for some and less so for others.

Contact your opponent to decide on the match start time. It needs to be within the set time period for that round, as indicated by the scheduling guide linked above, and not on the same hour as a previously scheduled match.

Post the scheduled match start time in this thread at least one day prior. I highly recommend including an Event Time Announcer link, with the event name set as "<Team X> vs <Team Y>".

Community eSports will internally decide who will be recording and commentating the match. At the scheduled match start, we will setup a lobby for your match with the first rolled map. We will make a local recording of the match, which will be edited and broadcast the following Saturday.
