Are there living cities in the post apocalyptic world? A living steampunk city could be cool.

ooh with strobing search lights

I dunno I can see the mobula paired up with a smaller ship like a goldfish, I just have this mental image of a goldfish flying backwards and using the open tail section as a kind of damage absorber.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Black hair

Pretty sure the option after the white hair color is supposed to be black.

well it's not quite white as the shaders spazz out when you turn your head.

Talking of small annoyances - a lot of the costume items suffer from clipping - hair through hats, goggles through hats, hats through clothes etc

Crewing will be interesting - there are no shortcuts up from the wings to reach the main drive engine behind pilot station - getting down to the hull or balloon sure but coming back up - I only managed to get up onto the rear engine housing once.

As to strategic use -  I parked it in the wreck where Desert Scrap CP is staged - seems the perfect spot for it - rear covered, balloon hunkered down, 5 mercuries facing out.

are there any live fire events organised?

I'd really like to see what the new stuff is like to use and be up against.

I'd love to participate

I've already joined the steam group, laid claim to a key and am in the process of DLD-ing the dev app.

Apocalyptic city
Majorly destroyed

Despite the velocroed buildings I like the Labyrinth map a lot. I'd love more urban themed maps with features that could be used tactically like the dried up river Thames bed in the image above - cutting across the map shrouded in mist allowing covert movements, just wide enough to have battles in (like the central channel in Canyons) and building shells you can enter ie sky scrapers with random floors blown out. Of course all that could be on the Labyrinth map and I just haven't found it yet .

Gameplay / Re: Where is a "Ramming guide"?
« on: July 04, 2013, 06:28:34 am »
thanks for the info on the damage modifiers involved Cullen - I'll do some experimentation on damages to the hull via the ballon later today.

Ramming for damage however isn't what I was suggesting but rather the use of mild impacts to reposition ships favourably to your killing them - for example a glancing blow on the beak of the Pyra to spin it's guns away from you and expose it's mid sections.

I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned but using the balloon as the point of impact, means any ship can do it and come away with repairable rather than permanent damage not just the Pyra. Though clearly the reasons why you would be doing this are more to do with forcing your target to reposition for your guns, and/ or cause an environmental kill, rather than the joy of flying through ship themed confetti.

Guides / Re: The Lumberjack Part 1 : Piloting a Lumberjack
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:43:09 am »
Good guide - I liked the tactical assessment of weapon conbinations to compliment the LJ.

its like a 35% chance he's got lesmok for the long shots you need to make.

this is the main issue for me - and I'm choosing my words carefully here because I'm not suggesting I don't like using the lumberjack or that there's anything wrong with people not getting how to use it - horses for courses as it were. I play a lot of pick-up matches and players I see regularly have a grasp of what their role is about but I often have to tailor my ships to match the crew. I wouldn't even contemplate something more linear like the lumberfish with a crew where the majority are new (to me) and nevermind a galleon - which is something you yourself admit, it's all about knowing your gunner and the gunner knowing you - which takes many many matches.

I started playing back in December '12, and around February one of the patches introduced a bug where the mouse input wasn't being read unless I played in windowed mode, so I waited for a bug fix and restarted playing once that came about. I'm also starting to run into players I saw around back at the start of the year coming back into the game again having taken a break from playing it.

As far as I'm concerned what I really like about this game, besides the gameplay itself, and what I think Muse has got 100% right, is the way the game encourages people to co-operate, rather than focusing on individual scores and beiing uber, even the most skillful players will lose unless they have both a working crew and a working team.

On top of that the long term player base is exceptional, I was in a match last night, tense, closely fought, despite vastly mixed player levels and length of in-game  time played. In the post-game lobby all the players remarked on how enjoyable the game had been, best summed up by one of the other captains when he said "That's Guns of Icarus".

Yes there are matches from hell too, but it is really something special when there is that spark and sixteen or twenty four individuals suddenly gel.

If I have a few have reservations, it's about clans, having been in a few clans in my time and also played games where it was impossible to play without being in a clan, where the in-game culture was run along the lines of prison gangs, join up or expect to be continually beaten up and/or have all your stuff taken, so I hope implementation will be handled as well as the individual experience side of the game. That said I'm not criticising people who wish to be in clans, nor the existence of clans themselves, but simply clans just aren't for me.
