General Discussion / Re: I played with X

Had some good matches with Calico Jack and a whole bunch of other people that I'm afraid I don't remeber right now. Some intense Raid on the Refinery action.
Also, in a plot twist, we were all Italians.  :o

heh - the guys on my team kept saying "Focus on cacca" because they couldn't pronounce "cacciapesce" (looking at you Wazulu :D)

Caclio Just to evolve on your point of the arrow above the head (which i love the idea of :D) How about leaving Reviews of players you've crewed with on their profile?

I could see that getting used maliciously though. I could also see the arrow getting misused but it would only last for 10 minutes.

I'm thinking Valve buys Muse. They did it with the TF devs and then made TF2.

I'd still prefer some kind of comedy punishment you could toggle like keel hauling where the offending player gets suspended below the ship and whisked back and forth four or five times, or a gigantic arrow above their head with a floating text message describing their failing as a crew mate which will follow them around for the next 10 minutes. Humour often makes a less barbed point. It could even be integrated into the comm rose.

That is how I know they want it.

:D

Remember E-sporters - training makes the players of tomorrow, we don't need to be strangers. In fact if you're in gmt-5 or gmt+1

Pop's back up and GMT-5/GMT +1 have no running sessions scheduled, anyone interested in getting involved can join the discussion here.

Unnamed crewmemeber: Ohh what's this gun do? *fires flare into cloud revealing the entirety of the other team facing us a hairsbreadth away*

When I am on a stacked side and I don't want to or can't swap to the other team, I take some funky experimental build as a way of testing myself and my crew. I encourage anyone on a win streak to do the same.

This is something I do too. I usually take the score as a guideline, if the matches are close regardless of the sides then the balance is right for me

General Discussion / Re: GoI Players are Rude.
« on: September 12, 2013, 06:41:59 am »

As to the OP - the correct thing to do as others have said is just block. Most of the bad attitudes are picked up as a conditioned reflex in other games and people who enjoy that kind of interaction probably won't stay in this game .

The many that I saw that acted that way in the last huge influx with that totalbiscuit thing...Iunno...
Anyways, many of them left after facing the "elitists" because...well stacked teams on that matter I guess...

And the others got to level 5 acting like that, and I haven't seen many of those again.  I do remember them gloating about achievement farming....

just a clarification - I don't look on high level players as being elitist.

And yes I've met a few bad pennies around the level 3-5 mark too but they don't seem to stay on in the game, given that the game culture of GoI isn't welcoming to braggadoccio and predatory behaviour.

Most reports I get from new players who start there are pretty bad. It is like the blocked up toilet in a wretched hive of scum and villany.

I'm not too sure that generalised n00b bashing gives automatic access to the moral high ground of a topic, even when done jokingly, it may give others the wrong impression that high level players are elitist and condescending.

If you discount the people who will probably not be joining the player base in the long term - there isn't really much difference between the players in the level locked matches and non.

One of the first things I did was to move the dismount helm button from the E default so I wouldn't hit it by accident in the thick of battle and fall off the ship.

When I saw Rainer's first image it made me think of something like this:

Level 1-3 players, or crews composed of players level 1-3  in a regular match, are actively choosing their matches manually. It used to be in the bad old days before tutorials and level locking that everybody was thrown in together, and the debate about stacking that followed led directly to level locking.

The other thing is new players who come up through the level locked matches don't usually come into contact with more experienced players for obvious reasons and may not have formed an objective opinion of their gameplay skills.

I believe the two situations feed off each other.

What is then left to each player is to decide when a game is unfair, but I will point out that the first situation has been cited as just cause for stacking in previous discussions about it in these forums. For my own part if I feel that a game is unfair I will do something about it.

I acknowledge stacking is a problem but some times I don't have the mental energy or patience to put up with inexperienced players. Once you have been on a very well run ship/team it is hard to watch people play at a less than optimal level.

Part of my gametime is given over to training new players, and when I'm not doing that there are times I just want to play. There is nothing worse than having a run of really bad matches that you know you could win but the disparity of where you crew/teamie needs to be and where they actually are is just to great to deal with in 1 match. Or two. Or three.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Game Type Idea: VIP

Speaking personally I rank VIP missions on a par with QTE for levels of enjoyability in any other game I've played.
