Feedback and Suggestions / Ship Cosmetics Wishlist
« on: May 02, 2014, 12:20:56 pm »
With the new addition of cosmetics to our ships, I thought it best to gather all the ideas and requests for the latest ship fashions all in one place, as well as to open the floor for general discussion on the matter. Want an awesome set of bull-horns strapped to your Junker's balloon? Looking for a flaming skull with snakes coming out of its eyes as a balloon decal? Post it here.

I also wish to offer a reminder that the implementation of user generated content/steam workshop contributions is still an option we are exploring and hoping to provide in the future. Clan-specific logos will be largely reliant on this feature as well, so keep your requests accessible to the playerbase at large.

And before you ask- the "Birthday" theme is already the subject of discussion among the team.

Opening the floor.

Nonsense, it's always a good time for satire!

The Pit / An exciting new direction for Guns of Icarus Online!
« on: September 23, 2013, 03:12:42 pm »
Everyone knows we’re coming to a PS4 near you, but we’re excited to finally announce the second part of the deal.  They paired us up with a publisher to help make sure we’re successful enough to keep making more content for you.
We’ve been given the privilege to work with EA who has some bold and exciting ideas on how to improve Guns of Icarus and we’re really excited to implement them.
We will no longer be porting Guns of Icarus Online Skirmish mode onto the PS4. We’ll be releasing the new Guns of Icarus 2.0 in 2014 across all systems with a slight delay to the PC market.
Finally, we are pleased to announce the long-awaitied boarding has finally come to Guns of Icarus! The boarding minigame DLC will be included on disk for a small fee of $10! We can't give you too many deails yet, but here's a teaser: It comes with full Facebook and Twitter integration!

Guns of Icarus 2.0 Patch notes:

UI AND CORE:
-Guns of Icarus has gone FREE TO PLAY! That's right, you are now free to move about the airship! We feel this lets us take Guns of Icarus in an exciting new direction for players as well as to expand our playerbase. All players who had previously purchased the game will be compensated with a 50% off coupon for OriGold! (See below)
-Due to a lack of tangible reward for continuous gaming, players will now unlock new content based on player level!
-New in-game currency added! Players can purchase new ships, weapons, and character tools with the Anvalian Ruble! Players willreceive Anvalian Ruples after each match based on their ship's performance.
-New in-game cash shop added! Players can get a head start on their gameplay experience with the rare and mysterious mineral OriGold!
-Full Origin integration now available ingame!
-Due to compatibility issues, Guns of Icarus online no longer functions with the Steam distribution service.

SHIPS AND WEAPONS:
-Players will now receive Anvalian Ruples after each match based on their ship's performance in the match!
-All players begin the game with the Salvaged Goldfish airship. This ship cannot be upgraded or modified, but earns an extra 10% bonus Anvalian Ruples after each defeat!
-New ships will now have to be purchased with Anvalian Ruples or OriGold. Purchasing ships with Anvalian Ruples will also require the captain to have a certain minimum level (Up to the Pyramidion at level 25). New ships purchased will be equipped with the default weapons for the ship.
-In order to install new or different weapons on the turret mounts, each weapon must be purchased for each ship with Anvalian Ruples or Origold. Purchasing weapons with Anvalian Ruples will also require the captain to have a certain minimum level (Up to the Lumberjack Heavy Mortar at level 30).
-Mercury Field Gun now exclusive for Gamestop OriGold card purchasers! Go to http://www.gamestop.com for details!
-Ships will slowly regenerate hull health after not taking damage for five seconds.

PLAYERS AND CLASSES:
-All class levels reset to make way for the new, exciting, easy-to-understand experience system! All players with their classes level 13 and older in the new system will get the special Old Guard Goggles cosmetic item as a display of their devotion.
-Premium-level classes now available! For a monthly fee of 1200 OriGold ($15US), players will gain early access to new ships, weapons, tools, and cosmetics! And to those of you paying for your goods with the Anvalian Ruble, don't worry; we've made sure all these unlocks are strict sidegrades to what's available to our free-to-play community!

Is Meta flipping the bird in the original?

Not exactly. There's a doorway there that I'm grabbing onto/closing.

I've been thinking this is Meta in a play, and secondly, that Scarf is perfect for a pilot cosplay. Putting it out there.

Good to know! That's actually me cosplaying the default pilot skin.

To Saintpope, congratulations on being the big quarter-million, buddy.

To all the developers and their staff, thank you all for creating the game that has captivated the hearts, imaginations, and free time of so many.

And to the entire playerbase, thank you all for helping to shape this game into the welcoming, fun community it's become.

Keep on soaring, everyone.

0:50  ..is that a air-carrier!?

So it's a bit futuristic? Interesting

It's more that Ace Combat takes the Metal Gear Solid approach to realism.

I'm MetaFive. And I won't give you any play, I'll just spend nine hours in Global chat talking about it, and how great it's going to be when you do it with three other guys.

Wait.

Aigaion and Stonehenge? In the same game? Was that laser from the Morgan or the Falken? Those four craft weren't supposed to be Razgriz, were they?

Oh god, I hope they're not just trying to make this an arbitrary nostalgiabomb.

14
So far we've seen AC6 content teased (Mentioning the "Kottos 2" on the teaser page), AC5 content teased (Mention of the AC5 pilots) and we've seen what appears to be the Stonehenge Turret Defense Network in the trailer.

Yet the planet is clearly earth and not Strangereal. The heck is going on?

Gameplay / Re: 1.3 General Speculation
« on: July 06, 2013, 07:34:57 pm »
I still think that if Explosive damage type was a bit better at getting armor broken down and a bit worse at getting killshots at an exposed hull, it would be a step in the right direction. The damage types have been drifting further apart into extreme specialization, and I think it's compounding the issue with paired weapons, especially THAT set of paired weapons. And right now, because of this, a ship with armor stripped either takes almost instant death or almost no damage at all, and gatling/flak hasn't so much become the preferred strategy as it's become practically the ONLY close-range strategy. This game is so unique and interesting in part because kills aren't GOING to be lightning-fast like in so many FPS games nowadays and instead calling for a lot of interaction between everyone involved... but lately, the kills have been getting faster and faster.

Assuming that explosive rounds become a more generalized damage type, ships that are unable to use paired weapons now have a better chance at being able to get kills or finish a ship on their own power, piercing weapons stop being a strict requirement and accelerate the process instead of being a requirement, and the flak finisher is still able to deal big chunks of permanent hull damage at once without bringing engagements to an all-too-rapid close.

And that last point I think is perhaps most important of all. The fact that we have a hullbreaker type and an armor piercing type means that a ship becomes vulnerable very quickly and vulnerability is a death sentence for many ships; to be honest, I don't think that a single armor break (assuming a fast and dedicated response) should be enough to conclude a battle.

Or if that's too far gone to consider at this point, give the gatling a much longer reload time, give the flak a slower firing rate and a slightly faster reload time. Make it so people will want to actually fire off a few flak shells instead of holding their shot for the inevitable (and very reliable) armor break, and so the flak cannon can't dump all its damage in the span of a second or two.
