The Lounge / Over the course of the 4th.
« on: July 05, 2013, 01:41:12 am »
So today America once again celebrated the 4th of July, the time when according to just about every child cartoon that tells you things was the day the Deceleration of independence was signed. It was a day for Americans to take pride in their country and go about being jovial and enjoying all things American. Me, I was at my computer playing video games and listening to bag pipes, and so begs the question, what did you guys do over the course of the 4th, even if you don't celebrate what did you do today?

The Lounge / That Ship In The Refinery
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:00:48 am »
So today I played on the refinery for the first time, upon my second game I noticed an airship in the background, here is a slight description of what I saw:

-2 balloons side by side
-A deepish draft
-Connor Mc. thought he saw it was built around a gun

Now here's a question for you, if such a ship were to be put in game, how would you imagine the deck and engineering hard point layouts be? How fast would it go, how strong would it's hull be, and would you consider a gun mounted along the ships hull OP?

The Pit / Sir Issac Phillips
« on: March 30, 2013, 01:41:25 am »
Sir Issac Phillips, he was the man, the myth, the legend.

A man of considerable talent and complete stupidity. The man who invented the squid, a hundred man ship that mounted 76 guns of all varieties. He who crashed into the Dresden Commune with a ship made of a set of rocket boosters, a tea cup, some wood, and 50 sheets of metal. He who created a monstrous weapon that shot beams of light! He that which chased down the bandits who were terrorizing Qual'jac and slayed them with naught but his home built squid and a teacup!

Guides / A Guide for Guides
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:28:35 am »
You may be thinking this is pretty silly, but even though I have never written a guide there are some general rules and what not you should probably keep in mind.

I. When writing a guide: do it in word (Or any other word processor), this is quite important, that way if your web browser crashes or you accidentally hit the back button, not all is lost. After finishing it you can just copy and paste it, even if the formatting is messed up you can fix that. Data loss and corruption takes more time then that.

II. Target audience: This is probably something you all know and love. You may be catering to an engineer, maybe a pilot, a gunner, or all three if you feel like it. Look at the situation and discuss what you would want to know in these situation, whether or not a specific tool is useful in X situation, proper team etiquette, or different load out for a specific class of ship.

III. Making your points clear and concise: While yes, providing thought filled details, giving good reasons and explanations is good, throw your points out there so they get a clear idea about what a specific section is about. Knowing that, give some decent explanations, provide those details, showing your reasoning as to why AFTER you make a point clear is a good way for the reader to find what is relevant to them.

IV. Graphical Elements: This guide has none as this is really just placing some points out there. You've probably noticed some really good guides out there that contain screenshots with photo editing to bring emphasis and focus to a specific object and area along with some captions in the picture telling you where something is, or what it is (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,263.0.html this is a very good example) while not required, they can be a whole lot more useful then words can be on their own.

V. Open for criticism: Being open to people will allow your guide to grow and learn new things as well, while once a guide is typed up and posted not a lot can be done after the edit time limit is over (Having the help of a CA to fix things is nice), taking feedback from players will let you evaluate what can be improved or changed, challenging your guide with the updates, thus keeping your guide relevant and up to date.

VI. Mentos Gum does not taste like Mentos.

The Lounge / For the sake of nostalgia
« on: March 05, 2013, 01:32:19 am »
So I decided to go through the old forum because, well, why not? And I began looking through some of the most well known forum threads there, and then I took a look at the three word story. It's probably the greatest train wreck of all bloody time that, well, was the fault of mine and many others, I mean come on flammable bacon that caught fire with techno music at dawn? Demon logic sprang out of an engine that was on? The first thought game, which still holds the title as the longest running thing in this forum held even more stupidity, none of which I'm going to quote or take examples from, you can just take a look into the archived forum for that one. I look at this wonderful new format (Which I'm very glad for) and it's growing and improving community but I really can't help but feel a bit of a loss in the complete non-sense we had back there, I had a wonderful time back in that old forum, as did most of us, the old forum will never leave but let's make this new one even better, and more stupid. But I'm not talking about talking rude to everybody else or posting troll statements, but making a stupid thing everyone can join in on and have fun with, we've already got the role playing thread and the first thought game is still rolling strong as ever. This is my request, people of the community, please do not be afraid to be a complete idiot if the situation allows for it, have fun and be your self (Unless you're in the RP thread) so yeah I'm done with this post so see ya guys around.
