Feedback and Suggestions / Adding friends sends a request
« on: December 16, 2013, 04:13:10 am »
At the mo when you add someone to your in-game friends list, it only adds them for you. Not for both of you. This is painful if you've had a great few matches with someone and you want to keep in touch with them and (you guess) they with you, but you don't want to awkwardly ask them to add them to your friends list.

I hardly play so I hardly get people adding me as a friend (waaaaa) so I'm unsure if it does but what if adding someone notifies the other person? That way they can be reminded that they can add the person back.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Ship Cosmetics.

Maybe just a "spray" effect? You select from a few different sprays, change the colour then they appear in a pre-designated location on your ship. Maybe reflected on both sides (if applicable).

General Discussion / Re: Question for Pilots

I used to fly the Goldfish consistently but since trying the Pyramidion with the 2 front guns, it's my favourite.

I fly the Squid/Galleon the least. Squid is too weak and not my style, Galleon too slow and also not my style.

General Discussion / Re: LAN Party Support?
« on: December 16, 2013, 03:58:30 am »
To answer my own question:

I've currently got 8 people playing Guns at the same time on my crappy ComCast internet. No problems at all. I'd say GoI:O is fairly LAN Party compatible.

Unfortunately some LAN parties have a shitty internet connection or no connection at all. My own connection should be able to handle at least a full ship, maybe two, but another LAN party I attended we had over 500 ping each. Not fun.

I'm in favour of a LAN mode. I suggested it ages ago in the forums somewhere.

Heaps of other games allow you to host a listen or dedicated server. Source servers are a piece of cake: download the files, forward some ports in your router, start the server. A listen server is even easier.

I'm in Australia and I received my swag a good month ago. I received a poster and badge. Postage times may differ depending on how much you contributed and what items you will get.

The Docks / Re: Asia/Australia Players Looking for Competitive Team

I'm from Down Under and would love to get involved in the competitive scene, or at least spectate. There are hardly ever any Oceania servers when I try to play, so I usually don't play at all.

Feedback and Suggestions / "Strange" guns and ships (keeps track of kills)
« on: December 16, 2013, 03:48:43 am »
I'm sure most of you have played TF2 or GSGO or Dota 2 that have "strange" items that keep track of kills.

Maybe our guns, ships and hammers could keep track of kills, repairs, rebuilds, etc? Maybe a micro-transaction (as much as I hate them) to prevent everyone from tracking?

In the games that have already implemented them I see no change in gameplay or anything like that. The most I get is a "woah, he's been playing for a while" when I see someone with thousands of kills.

for me it was absolutely unplayable as my mouse kept leaving the game to my left screen...only one click and you get thrown to the desktop.
I use the minitool "swapscreen.exe" where I can lock via shortcut my mouse to one of my screens.
Helped me alot but still sucks i need a third party tool for something like this

If you have a Nvidia graphics card there's an option in the control panel to emulate a single screen for a specific app. It worked perfectly for me as I was experiencing the same issue.

Just pledged $30 (including outside of U.S. shipping). First time I've used Kickstarter. :)

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: "Expert" HUD-less mode

Now that's a very nice idea! Finally no waiting until something happens for the Engineers anymore, and it'd finally be of some use to tell your crew from which direction you're fired at, or expect enemy fire to be incoming any moment now.

I'm no stranger to sarcasm. You don't have to be an ass about it.

Hm? I'm afraid you misunderstand me here, I was entirely serious about that one! It has been a problem for some of my engineers that over large parts of the game nothing happens, and they start to idly hop around on my helm and obstruct my view, and similarly I like to call directions aboard my ship to where we're expecting damage from. It's just that the latter isn't of any use, because we just get the hit markers and are done.

I'm really sorry I expressed myself poorly, my post wasn't meant sarcastic in any way, I support your idea!

Oh. It sounded really sarcastic so glad that was cleared up.

Splash damage from hits is not modelled very well in the game, so comparisons to real life are limited unless the graphical model is massively improved. Removing the hit markers would very seriously prejudice players not running the graphics at maximum setting across the board.

Hull damage animations are very obvious for most ships, slightly less obvious for a few, but these don't tell you that you've hit, theyt feedback that your shots are now dealing damage directly to the hull.

I'm half and half.

Its an interesting idea, but I feel like it might require a lot of tweaking to get right. First off, it would render the Spyglass fairly useless, which would be a shame. It would also make selecting tools in general a tedious memorization, but that could be argued as added difficulty, I guess. Not receiving hit markers would be detrimental, as well(I've played matches where projectiles pass through the ship's model, but doesn't register as a hit. This may be due to connection issues or whatever, but its still a problem nonetheless). But I'm nitpicking. If pulled off well, it could definitely be a fun game type.

The spyglass would continue to mark enemies because that's a game mechanic. I'm suggesting removing non-essential HUD elements that won't make tools/guns unusable.

Hit markers would be removed. I'm no gunner, but I do know they aren't required to shoot and in a real life battle you don't have hit markers to aid you in understanding where to hit and if you've made any damage. Physical damage would be the only indication (such as when the hull is nearly destroyed the ship's 3D model changes slightly).

Falling off the ship no longer respawns you until the ship has been destroyed ? :P

Yeah that could work but maybe that's for another thread? :)

Feedback and Suggestions / "Expert" HUD-less mode
« on: March 14, 2013, 01:47:07 am »
I suggest a new mode that can be enabled per user or per match/game/server: an expert (or "realistic") HUD-less mode that completely removes the HUD in-game (and in the case of a match with this option enabled - your enemies and allies too).

It'd make you much more aware of your ship layout and will force you to continuously check each component rather than "cheating" and looking at your HUD. You'll also need to track your ammo, just like you would in real life. I know it'll make things 200% harder, but for realism nuts like me, it'd be pretty fun.

Also easy to implement: remove the HUD. Forcing it in matches would require some more time, of course.

Thoughts?

General Discussion / My experience today
« on: March 11, 2013, 12:15:35 am »
I only played for about 20 minutes today and it was awful.

I decided to try out different ships and guns because for the past 5 ranks of piloting and captaining I've been using my Goldfish with pretty much the same configuration. It was a terrible mistake.

The configurations I did go for weren't the best and we completely lost. My crew and other players in the match let me know that. In-game I made several mistakes which led to our demise, and I had both my crew and my co-captain telling me (at the same time I might add). That was truly awful. I raged quit from my game due to becoming emotional.

Never in my whole GoI experience have I felt this emotional about it.

I'm saying this here because I want someone to know. I want to vent. Maybe other captains feel my pain of trying things out and being flamed at for it. Hopefully those in the game can understand.

Thanks.
