I just hate France.  I don't discriminate.

No AC. So no arc welding.  The mindset seems appropriate to the world, though.

I don't do moderate on forums.  It's my only excuse to be an asshole and have no repercussions.

I do think tolerance is an important part of a captain's qualities.  The responsibilities for training crew members and ensuring that a good atmosphere is the captain's.  In that vein, the captains govern the mood of the community, in a way.  I won't insult your intelligence to enumerate, but the intensity of some people in dictating crew composition is overdone.  I also end up playing during the Russian surge.  I dislike profiling, but it can be a demographic-related problem.

I watch a lot of QI, and the J-series has a 'Jubious Theories' thing where they say the Charlemagne period of history was made up by a king who wanted to be king in 1000 AD.  Viable?

Gameplay / Re: Lumberjack Discussion

I'm going to throw out there that the disparity here might be that the Lumberjack is well-balanced for new gunners, but insanely deadly in the hands of experienced ones.  Play with or against Charon or Kubitsuri on the Lumberjack and it really changes the dynamics of what the weapon is capable of.

I'd argue that the originally difficult technique of firing the weapon was used as a balancing factor.  The baseline skill has improved for the weapon, and thus that balancing factor might be argued as not effective against well-trained gunners.  The game stats aren't the only variable here--the skill level and composition of the community is changing, so the game must change to accomodate that.

Personally, I feel that a little balancing is needed to prevent very skilled Lumberjackers from being able to single-weapon kill so quickly against another target.  The carronades pop balloons, but if you double up carronade, people don't die this fast, and it's much tougher to do that.
Srsly guys.

So I'm melodramatic, but you agree with me?

Me trying to speak Japanese to Japanese players to tell them what to do, then them speaking English to me to tell me thank you for gunner-piloting, good job.  And that my Japanese was 'very good' (Japanese for very bad).

Played against a Lumberfish tonight while a little bit inebriated.  I was volun-told to pilot a flakfish as a gunner when the pilot dropped while my two Japanese engineers (I speak just a little Japanese) were on the repairs/guns.  We won.  Ramming a jackfish destroys it.  The enemy gunner was no pro, but it was far from unbeatable.

General Discussion / Re: I played with X

In continuing the tradition of Japanese people being awesome at this game, I played with two level 3 engineers: ton-cha and nanamin.
I was a gunner and the pilot dropped, so I decided to pilot.  These guys are un-fucking-real.  I speak a little Japanese, but their crew coordination in both languages is on board with level 9s or 8s.  Seriously, I was VERY impressed.  Also we won with a flakfish comeback from 0-2, scoring 3.5 of the kills.

You can get away with alot of troll builds with a good captain and crew. Dual flamer ramamidions with moonshine have worked for me in the past. That doesn't mean it's viable in the slightest.
Carronade/flame is a troll build.  I used to use it until it took me 5 minutes (yes, I timed) and four popped balloons of a Spire pogo-ing on the ground to kill it.  In any level of competitive play, it's totally unviable.

MOPP4 is a military clan, because only people in the military would laugh about getting in to MOPP4.
