The Gallery / Holiday Cheer
« on: December 23, 2013, 12:23:30 pm »
In this thread, we make up holiday music sung by the residents of GOIO.

I'll start with my terrible rendition of Santacurse is coming to town.

You'd better watch out, you'd better not fly
You'd better not shout, I'm telling ya why!
Santacurse is coming to town
Santacurse is coming to town
Santacurse is coming to town

He's prepping his crew, he's checking 'em twice
He's gonna kill ya even if you've been nice
Santacurse is coming to town
Santacurse is coming to town
Santacurse is coming to town

He spies you when you're hidden
He'll stab you with a knife
He doesn't care about bad or good
Better run for your life
Better run for your life

Etc. We need carols to sing in chat.

I'm on an iPad, so I'll keep this short. As many of you know, we've recently had a surge of new players, due to Pewdiepie's video. I've tried to get some players to do training, but it wasn't working. So I figure the clans need an incentive. What if we allowed clans to get a small amount of scrim points for doing a training session. Obviously we'd need to give less than a full scrimmage, but it seems to me that sportsmanship should be rewarded as well as skill.

Basically, say the ducks hold a training day. In addition to possibly getting new members, new respect, and sharing the love of icarus, now they get points. Helping is a valid way to up your standing.

So, opinions. Would this unbalance the system? Have I screwed it all up? I want feedback! I realize this could be exploited easily, and that's a problem we need to fix. Thoughts?

The Pun Topic.

I'm sure it'll be a piece of cake.

The Pit / The Sad State of The Spambot Industry.
« on: August 22, 2013, 03:17:40 am »
Look at this pathetic spambot that is running havoc around gaming sites on youtube.

"This video is very great! I have to say that I've viewed it more than once now. For a far better online game (in my opinion) go check this one out . You might like it, I think.
MyFunOnlineG (removing just for extra security) mes (dot) com" <-- do not click link, prolly a virus, can't be bothered to set up a VM to test.

So, having some experience with being on the receiving side of spambots that were equally stupid, I would like to do something about this. In other words,

This is what we need to pass, before we can actually call the spambot industry a succeeding one.

Hence, I present: Keon's Pseudocode Youtube Spambot.

  • Take name of youtube video spambot plans to comment on. For example, Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily Stage Acapella, or Minecraft Feed The Beast #57 - Twilight Labyrinth!
  • Take string, separate by " " character, the space. Eg, get the words.
  • Remove last word and one random word from anywhere in the list, assuming video has more than 2 words. Drop all numbers. Also drop all small words, like the, a , an, etc. So, we have something like "Mega Man Dr. Stage" and "Minecraft Feed The Twilight
  • Search youtube for result. Take a hit between #s 5-10. Eg: Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily's Castle: Stage 1 [Bossfight Remix], or Minecraft Feed The Beast - Episode 4: Twilight Forrest & Dimension Travel

  • Post youtube comment on target video (the first one) like this.

"You know, this video reminded me of a cool video I saw once. It was called something like [insert new video name here]. If you want to see it, the link is here. [Link to spambot site, but looks like a video site. Call it, I don't know, "Gamevideos" or something]

  • Introduce slight variations, fine tune ideas. Don't do this often enough to really make people mad. Just one here, one there.
  • Create many alt-accounts to upvote those spam posts. Post replies like "Holy crap, epic!" and "lol!"
  • Same accounts that post these links also post a ton of constructive comments. They reply to the top comment with a thing like "lol" or "hahah" and will copy comments below them. (That is, they see a comment that says "wow, this is awesome budder diesquids" (obv somebody watches a bit too much skydoesminecraft) they will post the exact same thing 20-30 comments later.)
  • have alt accounts subscribe to all channels they frequent.

Bam. Looks like an average, kinda stupid youtuber. Guy can look into why they linked to spam website and just see a avid minecraft and cod fanboy. Maybe even have site display a youtube video, but have it also display a bunch of popups and install some kind of adware.

To be clear, I have no plans of implementing this, and even if I did, "GameVideos . fakewebsite" would redirect to the wikipedia page on spambots and malware.

Edit: close paren. Also, I'm a terrible person, aren't I.

Gameplay / Possible Change to Squid
« on: August 19, 2013, 01:32:46 am »
Currently, squid loadout is like this:

    |
    o
   / \
 /     \
|       |o--
 \      /
   \  /
    o
     |

o is a gun, the line is it's firing direction.

What if we changed it to:

    |
    o
   / \
 /     \   /
|       |o           this gun is rotated 45 degrees to make an easier bifecta with the front gun.
 \      /
   \  /
    o
     |

What does this do? It's a buff to squid, no questions asked. It allows a gatmortar squid, for one. But a gatmortar squid was always possible, it just took a lot of skill to pull off. Now if we had this, squid becomes slightly easier to use, and also functions as a good counter to a pyra, which gets some complaints nowdays, because of speed and manuverability.

Thoughts?

The Pit / REAL parkour
« on: August 11, 2013, 06:23:06 pm »
No, not the real real parkour. I mean, if we wanted to add a bunch of controls for jumping around the ship, how should they work?

Hence: Keon's Parkour Guide Idea.

Press SHIFT to sprint. This is 1.5 times as fast as current running. Not pressing shift walks, meaning .75 the normal current speed.

Control: crouches: Useful for ducking under things.

Jump + crouch: Higher jump, possibly backflip.

Control + wasd = crawling

Control + Shift: Slide on belly like penguin.

Shift Jump: Dive - a longer jump.

Shift Control Jump: Roll. Like legend of zelda. Yeah, in First Person. It might get disorientating, but being an engie isn't for the weakhearted.

F: Grap: grasp an edge nearby.

Hold F: Pull up ledge (recover from a fall)

F + Space: Vault over an edge. Combine with a dive for even bigger jump.

F + WASD: Crawl on bottom of object (eg airship). Yes. Monkey bars style. Climbing on the underside of a galleon.

...Yep. I do want something like this somehow.

The Lounge / Skylords!

Holy crap we have 8 pages of skylords. That's epic. (And no, I don't hate the yogscast, I'm just amazed. Wow.)

For those that don't know, Yogscast had "Skylord Somebody" in their Shadow of Israphel series. I'm just sorta amazed.

edit: you need to search "skylord" cause the link only goes to the search.

Community Events / Risk - planning
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:53:19 am »
This is not for sure, all hypothetical.

I had plans a while ago - loooong while ago, okay  ;)- to set up a gigantic risk board based off the adventure mode map. Instead of rolling dice, battles would be resolved in game.

Clans would gain reinforcements (ships) by land control, and by controlling a faction (aka continent). These ships could be deployed in any city. Then clans would attack from one city to another connected by trade lines. Instead of rolling dice to decide how battles are won, players would take to the field in game with the number of airships they had in the game board.

EG: Gents hold Anvala with 4 airships, and Corvus has 8 stationed in adjacent Sarin. So Corvus attacks Gents, using their max of 7 ships (One has to stay in Sarin), vs Gent's 4. They arrange a time and have a duel. The match ends with Gents taking a 5-2 victory. So they need to start another match, then and there preferably, this time with Gents having 2 more ships defending, and 2 ships on the attack with Corvus. So they both fight and --

You know, I can't use these guys as an example, otherwise it's going to look like I'm taking sides. So forgive me, Gents, because I need the offence to win so I can explain some stuff.

So Corvus wins the next match 2-1. There isn't a "Huzzah" screen or anything, but both teams should surrender, say their ggs, and report this update to the thread. So Corvus caps Anvala and moves their one surviving ship into it. They've won, but it was a costly victory. Play continues. Each week teams get reinforcements, at the end of the week cards can be handed out, etc.

So I ask all of you, who would be interested in doing something like this? What are problems you see? How should I change the rules to fix them? Obviously I don't want this to take over cogs or CeSports of Muse's new game, or the other many tourneys we do. But it would be a cool way to get different teams to scrimmage. So what do you think?

Edit: I'm sleepy this probably makes no sense. If you don't understand just ask and when I wake up I'll say something more intelligent.

1: It has almost no players and we need to show it some love
2: There's a free version
3: We need to show the people that play it what the might of Icarus can do.
