General Discussion / Best/Worst parts of Guns of Icarus
« on: September 09, 2014, 01:10:39 pm »
Hey everyone,

Random idea popped into my head, what's your favorite and least favorite parts of Guns of Icarus.
This can be anything from roles to situations.

Favorite: Piloting a lumberfish
Least: Chem Spray Rotation

My goal is get a snap shot of the things we do best and things we could do better. You can definitely have more than one favorite (or least) and you can give reasons why as well.
This is a very open, very informal discussion where there are no wrong answers, simply data. You don't have to focus on gameplay answers either UI, customization design and anything in-game is up for grabs.

« on: July 17, 2014, 04:00:03 pm »
Hello Everyone,

It is time to test matchmaking again.  We need as many players as possible and as much feedback as possible.
Join us at 2 pm eastern, 6 gmt, and then let us know how the system works with from every standpoint, UI, bugs, and flow.

After 10 testing sessions both small and large and more meetings than you can shake a red stapler at, we are starting to get comfortable with Matchmaking.
We want to make sure the system is tested thoroughly before we push it out though so if you can make it please join us!

Please leave your feedback after you test here.
If you would like to discuss the system please post here.

Dev App Testing / The Dev App Testing Board Standards and Guidelines
« on: July 15, 2014, 01:08:12 pm »
Welcome to the Dev App Testing Board.

This is the fast lane to the heart of development.  You're looking at the birth place of great and terrible ideas. We'll test things from pet projects to major game overhauls in the Dev App and we want your input.
I do not want to understate how this is the inner-sanctum. Welcome to Trinity Site, New Mexico.
We will use this forum to give information and organizing testing of features we want looked at. You will see items in the barest state and items on their way out the door, but if we ask for feedback, that means changes can be made.
Every comment made on these threads will be given the utmost consideration and reflection.

You will not be able to create threads in this board.  This board is very specifically for features we want tested and the meticulous feedback you have for us. If you would like to openly discuss what you see please head here.

Guidelines in the Dev App
-Do Not Argue Balance While Playing
The numbers aren't going to change while you're in the sky so your best bet is to play as much as you can as hard as you can and then leave your thoughts on the forum after you are done.
This does not mean you can't discuss strategy and things you want to try out, but complaining about a weapon as overpowered will do nothing while you're trying to test.

-Seriously, Do Not Argue Balance While Playing
We're here to test. Answering voice and text messages while trying to avoid gunfire is hard and distracting to what we really need to do which is try out the weapons, ships, and maps. We're available to listen 24/7 on the forum and through, but while we're in the sky in the Dev App it's test time.

-Communication is Key
Mics are not required, but please work together and try your hardest to accommodate everyone. If players wanted completely silent automatons they'd use bots.

-Everyone's a Winner
Good sportsmanship is key everywhere, but remember effective testing is good for everyone even if you're the guy shot by the temporarily overpowered gun. Don't worry about losing because the rules are made up and the points don't matter beyond testing purposes.

Important Notes
There are some important things to remember when posting:
  • All features and changes are not in their final form (unless stated.) This means treat them as something malleable with solid feedback we are happy to look at and change the things you are seeing.
  • We do not have an issue with players disagreeing with us, but you must include feedback and reasoning. If you can do that for us, we'll do the same for you. (this way we can avoid "you're wrong" being the start and end to disagreements.)
  • The more testing that happens, the better the next patch is. We will do everything we can to organize testing, but any and all testing is appreciated and improves the game.
  • It is an honor for us to have you test for us, but it is also a privilege you earn by treating testing and feedback with respect.

The Docks / RESERVE Your Clan Name NOW!
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:00:24 pm »
Hey Everyone,
As everyone probably knows we are implementing a clan system. This means that your name and tag will be safe from any interlopers, but to make sure the correct clans get their name and tag we want to lock you into the system before anyone touches it.

I will be contacting the leaders of the clans I have listed and getting them to confirm their clan's name and tag. These can be changed in game, but we want to make sure on day one you get the tag you've been using for a while now.

My current list of clans (taken from Sunderland's amazingly curated list.)  If any of these names, tags, leader info is incorrect please let me know.  You do not have to be a part of the clan to comment on their status.

If you are a part of these clans and your listed leader is not correct please let me know either by email ( or on this post.
If your clan is not listed please list it for me and I will make sure you will be contacted as well.

General Discussion / New class Revealed.
« on: April 01, 2014, 02:26:18 pm »
Since releasing the new video, we've been getting a *ton* of questions regarding how the new balloon-less airships (aka Pezzelins) will work, if they will be OP, etc. Hopefully this will clear things up!

Lifting, hauling, and pulling; there's always work to be done for an Oarsman. Oarsmen are the strongest crew members in Guns of Icarus, and they need to be! Carrying a ship around is no easy task.

Oarsman's Tools

Flap Arms - The mainstay of the Oarsman class, this skill provides the necessary lift for Pezzelins. Communication with the Pilot and other Oarsmen is crucial for maintaining proper altitude.

Water Wings - Activating Water Wings makes the ship immune to rain and other water effects.

Can of Beans - Provides an extra burst of lift, but can only be used once per match.

Whip - This provides just enough "motivation" to reduce the cooldown timers of an Oarsman's skills.

Lightning Rod - Absorbs all damage from one lightning strike, only usable once per match. If used successfully, the player is moved to the Spectator team.

Community Events / Matchmaking Testing Happening this Weekend!
« on: March 13, 2014, 11:55:27 am »
It's finally happening! We're bringing you into the very early version of what we hope the matchmaking system to be.  We need as many people in their as possible so every issue, bug, and problem is spotted on Saturday instead of in a month.

At 2 pm EDT we will be hosting a whole slew of players all testing out the system and it would mean a lot to us to have every player there.

So, how can you help?

Join us at 2 pm.
Bring a friend.
Bring a Clan!

If you need a key for permanent access to the dev app email and I will get you one asap.  Need more for friends, clan members, family, and pets?  Just ask, we'd love to bring them all in!
