Community Events / Re: Titles, who has them, and what they do.
« on: April 24, 2014, 04:14:00 pm »
Redria has established any team from a clan can win and lose titles on behalf of the clan. I believe that because of us winning a victory against the Hatters at Duel in a scrim today, the title for Duel at Dawn should now belong to the Black Flight Squadron (or The Bully Boys, if you'd prefer the mother clan). We have screenshots if needed.

Cool addition. With a few patches it could really shake up the current airplane meta.

Community Events / Re: The Iron Fork of Friday! Every Friday!
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:39:24 pm »
I don't mean to be a downer on the event here, but I feel some clarification and advice maybe be helpful for the good of this event.

On Friday, myself and the rest of BFS had gotten three full ships worth of BFS members ready with a new 3v3 build we were eager to try out against some skilled opponents. I was under the impression The Iron Fork of Friday was a weekly event where Cake threw down the gauntlet to all comers in a public 3v3 challenge match, and we came into the lobby hoping to have a good game and good practice. I was particularly excited as this would be my first streamed competitive game as a captain of full BFS team in months. As it happened, only 8 BFS members were able to join as the rest of the blue team, including a captain's slot, were filled by Cakes. I asked if the Cake members on the blue team could leave so we could have a proper 3v3 Cake vs BFS match. It was explained to me that IFOF was "just for fun" event and that priority was given to Cake members wanting to play on either side. I completely accepted this and asked if we should leave so we could have a practice with all our members elsewhere.

Cake insisted that they wanted to play with us, so out of goodwill, we agreed. Our allied Cake captain took a harpoon/mine junker without consulting me or Zinc, and then left halfway through the game without warning. This was irritating in itself, but when we found out the game was being casted as a Cake vs BFS match on the stream when Cake had explicitly refused the offer of a scrim before the match, it was very aggravating to all our members, especially since we had excluded some of our members to play the game and wasted valuable practice time together.

I feel greater clarity about this event for both the casters and participants of it would really help. I do not hold anything against Cake (you know we love you guys!) as I think this all sprung from misunderstanding rather than malice, but until everyone is on the same page about whether this is an actual competitive event or "just for fun" silliness, I feel this may give rise to further misunderstandings. All the best from BFS and I hope we can have a proper 3v3 scrim with you guys sometime.

One of the issues is that many in the community saw points as meaning serious which of course can't be fun. However, the system is not really a zero sum scenario wherein one teams gains and the one loses but instead a scenario in which one team gains and the other stays the same. In other words, don't only agree to scrims after you have assured victory, have some fun and the worst case scenario is you are no different having played than having not played.

I disagree somewhat on this point. Two teams can only scrim with eachother for points once per week. Therefore, when the two teams play a points scrim, they'll obviously both want to be ready and at their best, and they'll want to have firmly set down the parameters of the scrim with eachother. A large (but not the only) reason we ended up not having more ranked scrims is that it was problematic for many teams agreeing on a time that would be good for everyone concerned.

I think some sort of Guns of Icarus World Cup would be an awesomely hilarious idea. Would love to see the kind of fun combinations of pilots and crew that would happen!

Also, some sort of 3v3 CP Tourney would be fun. Even if it was single elimination or just 4 or 8 teams, I would just like to watch some of those matches at a competitive level.

What really makes the Sunday Rumble so relaxed is that absoloutely any group of eight people can play, there's no deadlines for entering or organizing your team, and if you lose, there's always next week!

We've had matches where both teams have agreed to go all-pilot, and we've had teams providing substitutes for eachother. There are some pretty intense matches but on the whole, the Sunday Rumble has pretty laid-back atmosphere.

Strite has hereby authorized me to ask that you replace the Haven entry in the OP with the following

Clan Name: The Bully Boys (BFS and Haven)
Contact People:
IGN: Brick Hardcastle/ Steam: apexofbeing
IGN: Gilder de Unfettered/ Steam: Guilder the Squidslinger
IGN: Strite/ Steam: Haven | Strite
IGN: Sir Daftwager/ Steam: Sir Daftwager
Scrimmage times: We have practice sessions many weekday evenings (European time), so roughly 6-12 GMT. These times are mainly for learning and fun, so other clans are welcome to play with us, but we may not be ready for a scrim for points at these times. Our fixed scrimmage times are just before and after the weekend events, so around 6-8pm GMT/2-4pm EST and 10-12 GMT/6-8pm EST on Saturdays and Sundays. We’d like to arrange these scrims in advance. Also, you can visit Haven’s website and post in the public section of the forum or on the public shoutbox which can be found by scrolling a little ways down the home page.
