Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Level requirement to create clans
« on: March 30, 2016, 09:11:39 am »
I dont want to be the guy that jumps on the bandwagon but even the attempt to legitimize this topic by a "proper" discussion on level requirements for clans is a waste.  You dont help the community by limiting who can do what.  You dont make people stick around by creating hoops so small they break their necks trying to get through.   If people want clans they create them.

I have no idea why people even entertain this elitist thinking from the start.  Jazzhand rips noobs apart from the safety of spectator slot or blocking anyone that opposes him in game.  This person is a bigger problem to deal with than this topic.

We have grown exponentially with the criteria of friendly, listening to advice in game, and friendly to opponents as well.  Any issues with -§m- can be directed to Fapcatfin and myself.  But so far,  all -§m- readily listen to advice, and can be vouched for being a good member on any ship duties.

Steel Meridian is looking for smart, and fun folks to add to the fold.  Some of the best times we've had as clan mates has been pulling off wonky builds and learning new angles to come at the game with.  We dont fly the same thing over and over.   We do put the fun of the crew in the fore-front of our minds when we are flying with competent crews.  The aim is to continue to grow our competitive side.  We will not last second counter ship switch.  We will never leave a match of our own volition.

One of the stipulations is you must at the very least tolerate mines.  No mines.  No entry.  :)  The other is you must be willing to join our discord channel.

Use Chrome (if you must) but I recommend downloading the desktop app.  Join here https://discord.gg/0rNAvPKOse3DKaZt

To join add my name Red-xiii as a friend on Steam and apply in-game.  Logo of Team Highwind as avatar.

Team Highwind was created with the help of [POSH] Nyarlathotep by bringing random people interested in competitive play together.  The awesome logo was created by [ARSR] Blue Blazez who is also the co-creator of Team Highwind.  You don't have to leave your current clan to join the ranks.  If you have just been interested in competitive play and have been holding out, join us and well learn together.  Our first ScS was an enjoyable experience for the crew as a whole which is what prompted our recruitment post here today.  Myself and BlueBlazez are the current captains but others are welcome.

We represent multiple clans so the only stipulation is respect for your teammates and opponents.

Ok understood.  In summary, the areas that we need to pay close attention to are:  spire, squid, and loch.

Please also consider changing the sniper mobula. I can tell you guys want to change the mobula (because you sort of did), but this last gun arc change only locked it further into the one true build of merc/double art.

This so much.  I realized today my merc/hades build was taken from me.   It locked me into top art and brawl.  Very few different builds are now even viable for competetive for the mob.  There werent many to begin with but at least I felt like I had a choice.

Skbo showed how much today the loch is buffed beyond comprehension.   Galleons going down in one clip of mortar or less on a gat/mortar pyra.  Thats just..... :-\

General Discussion / Re: How would YOU nerf the Mobula?
« on: March 15, 2016, 04:57:16 pm »
Ive thought about this alot.  I love the mobula.  I like how open and big it is.  And how it must be compartmentalized to crew.  That said, the worsed nerf I would give it is turning speed reduction, lower its up and down buoyancy, something on the movement side of things.  To change gun arcs to me defeats the benefit of the mobula at all.  Heck even add another ramp or something to it so the engies take longer getting to the hull and balloon.

Yes Novices can be frustrating, but equally if we create barriers and restrictions it'll do more damage to player retention than it would help...

Agreed.

On the specific subject of this thread -- I'd have never gotten into this game in the first place if I had been restricted from piloting. Gunning and Engineering are fun and all, but I find piloting is where my interests lie, and the role that brings gameplay I can't get elsewhere. It was the role that cemented GoI as a game I'd like to keep playing.

I was one "bitching" captain away from quitting this game early on.  I was going to try one more match.  The ONLY thing that kept me around was [SAC] Gully Man.  He made it quite obvious that not all captains are assholes and can actually teach.  From then on I decided to ignore the ranting vets and learn on my own and  from the helpful pilots.  Alot of novices are not so lucky as I.

General Discussion / Re: What are you?
« on: March 05, 2016, 01:34:32 pm »
Im an engineer who glared at the Pilots seat for so long, envious of whoever was flying, who finally decided I was good enough to snag the wheel.

My first love was Mobula.  Good old Merc, art, banshees.  It ended up being easy to start flying, difficult to master dodging effectively.  But really what it did was give me the confidence I needed to try flying other ships.  For that, the mobula will always be my favorite ship.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Feeding Frenzy
« on: February 07, 2016, 07:01:11 pm »
Yes i wont beat a dead horse.  This is the only real issue I have in this game.  However saying that people want to compete in a serious manner in this game is true, but only when circumstances suit them.  Which makes them one dimensional.  And ornery at novices.  Instead of attempting to fly self sufficient and/or helping noobs.   I find that ALOT of high levels dont like flying against anyone but their friends or novices.  Only when people put their pride away do good games commence.  Im starting to think people have some serious performance anxiety.  Cant afford to lose and must find someone to blame.  Hence novice crushing.  Hoping this will change.  Im done with the subject.

Feedback and Suggestions / Feeding Frenzy

This is my last attempt to bring to light the main issue in the actual in-game community.  I personally called out two level 45 pilots, not trying to be rude but attempting to to let them know their continual harassment via text and voice was not helping their level 7 captains learn the game.  On SALE WEEKEND nonetheless.  No tutorials are going to make them understand exactly how the game works until they are throw into the fray and figure it out.  Anyone who says otherwise is just being simply wants to argue tutorials.  Not reality.  No tutorial ever allowed you to fully grasp all the concepts of every game youve played.

DO YOU REALLY expect new people flying as friends in a crew to understand gun arcs, ship mechanics?  DO YOU REALLY think you should be flying with them or STACKED AGAINST THEM?  Come on now.  All this bitching and moaning about novices shouldnt fly and high levels come out of the woodwork and wreck them.  Game after game.  EVERY  single lobby I went to.  This is why the player base diminishes so quickly.  NOT EVEN AN ATTEMPT to help them.  The absolute SECOND I said hey ya gotta turn your ship to the side so your gunner can shoot we became useful.  But no.  High level players find it beneath them to help and actually seem to enjoy beating them down both with them and against them.  Its not one or two lobbies.  Its every one of them thats not a novice match.

Theres no excuse.  Theres no giving a book explanation as to why, or its muse fault for match making.  Or its a game let them burn.  It is a game.  Killem all.  But you will be back to playing by yourself because you continually killed the player base.  This the main problem in GOIO.  THE main.  Imo of course.  It is not a typical game.  Therefore its player base should act in a non-typical manner.  And be helpful.  Community has become to comfortable in their ways.  Clique.  You personally reading this may not be the problem specifically, but I guarantee everyone here has a huge part in the demise of new players.

This thread is not that far off topic.  People make this game the experience it is.  Any high level captain got there not just because they liked the game, but because they like the crew dynamics and how the wheel turns.  To continue that progression for novices, assist instead of killing their desire to learn.  Weve all had our share of trolls.  We are the ones who make the experience as a whole.  Its not the game developers job to assist with this.   Its ours.  If you want to.

I'm really REALLY getting sick of this hand holding culture that just doesn't encourage people to step up and strive to improve.

I would typically agree with you, but this is a TEAM game... and one bad player effects EVERYBODY in the match, not just that new and/or bad player. If this were Mario Kart or Mortal Kombat, I'd say, "Screw you, if you're awful, that's on you. You're only losing for yourself." But Guns of Icarus is nothing like those games. A hand-holding culture is necessary to improve the game for EVERYBODY. You're being selfish, honestly. And that's fine. But don't expect the game to grow or the quality of the player base to rise. We're all in this together. Start acting like it and do some work. Otherwise, don't complain.

I point your point to the MOBA genre and tell me again if hand holding culture is necessary. The game is PVP, by nature the game is get good or gtfo.

Hell team sports in general. No one wants that short fat kid.

This is exactly the problem this thread was started on.  This isnt a moba.  PVP doesnt mean "git gud"  Its just the culture thats been created in other games.  This game should be ABOVE that.  Thats the point.  These statements youre making are toxic.
the moba genre is heavily team based and when a player drags the team down the people that need to pick up the slsck are frustrated by the handicap forced upon them.

if you are saying that feeling or scenario has never occurred on this game then you are a liar.

yes guns is not moba guess what. did goddamn say it is? just saying its not is just a weak sauce counter point to the obvious point I was making where guns has similar structures.

is this discussion going to be continued with blatant denial as a talking point?

Your very specific attitude towards this whole conversation is the ENTIRE issue.  The way novices are treated as crew and as a pilot does impact the longevity and amount of players in the game.  Whether you admit it or not.  That kind of attitude belongs only for the tournaments, or where you have something on the line.  I didnt wanna bring it up but you are forcing my hand here.  You Max, specifically, tear into novices from spectate mode.  You sit in lobbies and tell them in not so polite manner their ship sucks, their weopons sucks, the crews loadouts are all wrong, and then you magically jump to another lobby without so much a Q&A session so they understand why you are bitching at them.  You are solo killing the novices will by yourself.  Toxic.  You need a break from this game.  A long one.
