The Signal Tower / The Illuminate the World Tour
« on: January 25, 2017, 09:40:14 am »
The Illuminate the World Tour is the ultimate competition between two of the game's best flare engineers, Lysanya and Huskarr. They are each an engineer on either side of a Flashbang Mobula (2 flares per side). Whoever hits more of their flare shots will win the competition.

Scoring:
 - 1 point per flare hit
 - 1 point per component kill
 - 10 points per ship kill

You can view the video here.

I apologize for how late this was uploaded. We recorded this in August, but I forgot about the video until Huskarr reminded me a couple weeks ago.

The Signal Tower / 12 Hour Charity Livestream: October 2016 Edition
« on: October 06, 2016, 02:28:39 pm »
On October 23, I will be hosting another 12 hour-long livestream, supporting the American Brain Tumor Association, from 10 AM EDT until 10 PM EDT.

My goal is to raise $100 for the ABTA, the only nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to supporting families of brain tumor patients and research. I have held these livestreams twice a year since my dad passed away of brain cancer in 2013.

Here is my schedule for the day. All times are in US Eastern Daylight Time. It may change up until October 16:

  • 10AM: The Elder Scrolss V: Skyrim
  • 11AM: Rocket League
  • 12PM: Rocket League
  • 1PM: Papers, Please
  • 2PM: Guns of Icarus
  • 3PM: Guns of Icarus Sunday Community Skirmish #125 featuring Grimick
  • 4PM: Guns of Icarus Sunday Community Skirmish #125 featuring Grimick
  • 5PM: Guns of Icarus - End of SCS
  • 6PM: Guns of Icarus
  • 7PM: Guns of Icarus
  • 8PM: Overwatch/Hatoful Boyfriend
  • 9PM: Overwatch/Hatoful Boyfriend

The entire 12 hours will be broadcasted on my twitch channel!

I also have some incentives for donating:
$0.01 or more: A personal thank you from me and the warm feeling of knowing you helped someone somewhere who is going through hard times
$7.00(Guns of Icarus): Decide my player loadout for the next game.
$8.00(Guns of Icarus): Decide ship loadout for next match.
$10.00: You get to choose any song for me to sing. Just be warned: While I can't sing well, I will try my best.

If I reach a total of $80 before 8PM EDT, I will be playing Hatoful Boyfriend, a dating simulator where all characters are birds, with fellow members of the Grim Reapers clan voicing the characters.

If you would like to chat with me or play any of the games with me, join my Discord server at any time (besides during the Sunday Community Skirmish).

The Signal Tower / The Ultimate Flare-Off
« on: July 10, 2016, 10:32:39 am »
The Ultimate Flare-Off is the Ultimate Flare competition between two great flare engineers, Huskarr and Lysanya, playing on either side of a Flashbang Mobula. Whoever hits the most flare shots in this single match wins the preview of the competition.

This will definitely not be the last flare-off, as it was so much fun to record and edit, and I gave the engineers about 30 seconds of mental preparation (I told them it would be a competition as we were loading into the map).

The Signal Tower / You Spin Me Right Round

I may have had a terrible idea...

Seriously though, I am going to be working on a better version of the video with clips from more matches, and maybe even some as gunner, if I can get a pilot to take minotaurs.

The Docks / The Black Cloak Mercenaries
« on: June 05, 2016, 02:56:30 pm »
Have you ever watched a competitive event and wished that you could take part, even though you don't have contact with any competitive teams? Well my aim is to change that.

The Black Cloak Mercenaries are a coalition of players who have interest in competitive play, but for whatever reason are unable to participate. The purpose is to get these players together, whether they be single players or a crew of friends, and combine them to field a team and make competitive Guns of Icarus accessible even if you do not have 7 clan mates to fly with.

I do want to be clear. This is NOT a clan. You may fly with the team of Mercenaries regardless of your current clan, as long as you wish to play competitive.

If you are interested in participating, please bring up contact with me. I will begin setting up teams as soon as I possible can. If we are not able to field a full team of mercenaries for an event, available mercenaries will be offered as substitutes to any teams in need.

The Signal Tower / 12 Hour Charity Livestream
« on: May 19, 2016, 09:55:43 pm »
On May 29 at 11 AM EDT I will be hosting my bi-annual 12 hour charity livestream! This time, I will be streaming for the American Brain Tumor Association. To view my fundraising page, click here.

I will be playing Guns of Icarus from the hours of 3pm until 6pm as well as 9pm until 11pm (all times in EDT), maybe more if there is demand in my twitch chat. I can promise that there will be competitive Sunday Community Skirmish footage, either as a participant or as a caster (I am making arrangements and will announce once I can confirm from which perspective). If you would like to watch at any time, it will be on my twitch page at twitch.tv/guagadumc.

Community Events / Competition Concept
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:19:12 pm »
General Overview
For a couple months, I have had an idea for a competitive event. I have put off writing down this event for the entire time, until just recently when a clan member pointed out an event with a similar main idea. So, I decided to revise my idea and write it down. I want to make it clear that this idea is simply a concept.

This event would consist of three stages. Each stage is run in a different format with different rank formats. Players will sign up as a crew, and will be assigned one or two other crews to play with. The reason for this is that it is a lot easier to get 3 other players to play together than it is to get 7 others.

The preliminary stage is a 3v3 league. Each teams will play 3 matches, one of each gamemode, for each week. My original idea is to run this stage for one week. The leaderboard in this stage is based on each game's score. The winner of a match will receive 7 points, while the losing team will receive points equal to the amount of points they receive, scaled down. Examples for this and a better explanation can be viewed on the Google Doc. The top two-thirds (or close, depending the amount of teams signed up), would advance to the main stage.

The main stage is a 2v2 best of 2 league format. Don't worry, this does work. If a team wins both of their matches, they receive 3 points on the leaderboard, and the losing team receives 0 points. If each team wins a match, they all receive 1 point.

The final stage is a round-robin between the main stage crews with the 4 highest scores.

If you would like a more in-depth view of each stage and some sample calculations, click here.

Possible Change Ideas
Since writing down my original idea, I have thought of several ideas to alter this competition, which will be listed below:
  • Selecting team mates for preliminary stage.
  • Finalists selecting another crew from the eliminated crews to partner with for a finals tournament bracket.
  • Increase the length of the preliminary stage, and decrease length of the main stage.
  • Swap the order of the main and preliminary stages.
  • Completely eliminate the preliminary or main stage.
If the preliminary stage were to be eliminated from the competition, the event would be a 2v2 league. with the same format as the main stage. The only difference would be in team selection. Teams have one of three options when signing up: sign up as a full team (2 ships), sign up as a single ship and selecting another signed up, or random teammate selection. Once selected, teams would be final. The final stage would be a double elimination tournament of the top four teams.
If the main stage is eliminated, the event would be a 3v3 league with the same format as the preliminary stage. During each week of play, two rounds will be played as deathmatches, and one round will be either crazy king or king of the hill, each on alternating weeks. Teams will sign us as a single ship, and will be randomly matched together for week one. For the rest of the weeks, I can either continue to assign them randomly or create a program that will match them in a systematic way.

If you have made it all the way through this, I thank you. If you have any thoughts on this tournament, whether it be a suggestion, a change or a question, please do not hesitate to post a reply or PM me. I am quite new to competitive Guns of Icarus, so I welcome any ideas.
