We should all pretend moonshine squid rams are OP on a fully armoured galleon and see how many newbies do it :)

I play troll ball at LARP myself, luckily we lost the last tournament, it's hosts were vampires and the prize was immortality among the ranks of the undead, boy it's good to loose sometimes, not sure a wolf kin could handle being undead...

Back ontopic, I ban Queso for not banning anyone.

Schwalbe: [captain's ship is almost dead, and pilot decides to do a suicidal ram] I'M INVINCIBLE
[ we ram them, and die ]
Schwalbe: OK, WE'LL CALL IT A DRAW.
Guy_from_that_ship: But we just killed you, silly bastard...
Schwalbe: TIS' BUT A SCRATCH
I think that was my ship on my third or fourth round...

Wish I was around to see the old system, though I can also imagine achievement hunting being an issue, every third game the main engineer lettin engines die because he needs rebuild, add convenience of timing and you have a big problem :/

It'll add many tactical advantages, now you'll know both ship you're stalking and exactly what direction they're facing, but as mentioned maybe the colour could be looked at. :)

I think perhaps level is a poor indicator of skill level.
Time in game =/= good at game necessarily.

Maybe trackable achievements?

  • Can hit with a hades
  • Can prevent fires with chem spray
  • Will accept recommended loadouts
  • Understands damage system etc.

Cos that's what un novice means to me

I'm going to reiterate this point as not too long ago I had the pleasure of a level 5 gunner who put many level 20+ gunners to shame in his perfect ammo use and his usefulness aboard the ship! Not only did the guy perform perfect heatsink reloads but he repaired the balloon in the reload! Among other things.

Level is just an indicator of time played, even terrible players reach high levels if they hang around loosing enough...

That's not to say the problem does not need addressing, it needs looking at, but making newbies feel like 'yeah your new you suck as we're going to avoid you like the gray blight until you're level X!' Will result in more people not going further than novice, they'll just give up ad then the rare individuals who do excel at the game will have no lobbies whiles they try to level up...

Maybe just novice cap the same as it is, but no option to opt out of novice...

I love the mental warfare behind the add time button when against impatient 'ready up brah!' Screamers....

I ban RedRoach for banning Queso for suggesting he drop his concentration during muggle quiddich. (Which was a fun topic during the fireside chat!  :D )

If we're mentioning the people we like even with criticism, 90% of newbies who did not rage quit when I told them 'you're more use to me upstairs shooting the gun please.' To those that rage quit... Many many colourful words are used to describe thee. :)

As a metamidion pilot I will say the benefit to Greased is giving it to everyone and telling them to load it after emptying the first magazine, that normally gives me the time I need to get up close and saves arguing which is best, though if it's a gunner who knows his stuff heavy greased and heat sink are a good way to go :)

There are two types of horizontal rams:
Damage rams, most effective when the enemies hull is down, moonshine or kerosene is a good aid to this.
Controlling rams, very difficult to pull off well and requires a lot of practice, you ram the enemy so that you're in their blind spot, if you're controlled enough and don't use kerosene or moonshine you'll be able to slow your ship down and keep them facing the way you want them for as long as you need, but it requires a lot of practice, awareness and good comma with your engineer.

Two types of vertical rams.
Up, normally done when you're coming from under an enemy, it's very hard to make this effective but can be very useful when an ally needs help if you have hydrogen, not advised for most players..

Down, very effective when you're equipped with a carro, pop ballon position yourself on top and drop, chute vent makes this such a beautiful way to crush Junkers..

Yes but the timing has to be right, but it can be done :)
