The Docks / Re: Zill's Merry Men

I have applied to SPQR, but they haven't responded after more than a week.  Figured I might as well join the bandits if I can't join the police.

IGN: ShadedExalt
Steam Name: TwisTed_SH4D0W5
Preferred Class: Pilot or Engie.  Still learning how to fly, but I have a decent grasp on Engineering.

I would prepare something called 'Gourp'.  Basically, you take rice, cook it, throw a can of cream of mushroom soup in, grated cheddar cheese ranging in amount from a little to an entire brick, some mixed veggies, some chopped ham/chicken/turkey/bacon, and cook it some more, and then you put it on a plate beside some classic Ruffles and use it as an extremely filling dip.

Also, the delicacy suggested by BRNgames is widely known as 'Meatbread'.

Among certain members, I believe Gunker is also known as Dakka. But five gatling is insufficient Dakka.

NEVAR ENUFF DAKKA!  NEVAR!

Make you're gunner help with repairs. No reason to have someone on gun if I have no engines and am currently in evasion mode. Despite popular belief being a gunner doesn't excuse one from work.

Oh I know.  But I meant if you wanted to avoid a ram or something or other.  If it was full out panic mode I would get him off guns for sure.  Then I would escape behind some measure of cover, if at all possible.

I don't actually like slowing down exp gains.. I think they should stop dividing gunner vs engineer exp though and just make "Captain exp" and "Crew exp" charts, so weather your a gunner or an engineer you get exp for shooting and repairing..

I could support achievements giving exp bonuses though..

- Also on topic a bit, what if they made it so you can't opt out of novice games until you complete the tutorials... (or of course level out of novice)..

That might help stop people who know nothing from ending up in a normal match..

All of my love to these ideas.

Haven't played yet, busy.  But this looks really cool!  Moving forward I would suggest going for a Team based fast paced FPS, maybe with a 'summoner' or 'overseer' class that provides tactical updates and NPC support during fights, utilizing his crystal ball to give him a birds eye view.  As RedRoach said, maybe as you specialize, you get new outfits.  But maybe, as you specialize and level, you could unlock class mutations.  A high level one might be the Paladin mutation, slowing them down, but giving them element resistance and higher health.  You'd have mainly defensive or healing spells, maybe with a shield spell as his main defensive, AoE healing 'grenade' for healz, and some kind of short range kinetic force attack that knocks the enemy around.  This could be used to get your enemy into position for a nuke from a team mate.  Also maybe access to the thunderbolt spell.  You would obtain this through playing as a healing mage and a support mage a lot.  Thoughts?

I wish you nothing but luck in that endeavour, friend.  Oh, and a noob crew on the Galleon.  And a recording.  If you have that recorded, Muse would have no choice but to feature that.  I would PAY to see that.

I take after Melon, then.  Thanks for the feedback.  Sammy B.T., Indreams, I DID mention that I don't ram primarily for damage, but to confuse, befuddle, and otherwise screw up the enemy captain.  Whether this means getting their guns out of arc, getting their attention, or lining up for a Stomp.

If I DO ram for damage, its usually with Hwachafish when the enemies armour is down.  With me playing in Novice matches, my ally(ies) are usually 'exploring'.  I can usually kill an enemy on my own anyway, with a little bit of luck, a decent crew, and a few mistakes from the enemy ship.  Oh, Melon, anyone who rams a non-blended Galleon is a giant idiot.  It just has so much more mass than anything else its stupid.  I really liked the Wrestling analogy Sammy used as well.  Thanks for the advice.  Nice to know that my strategies are OK.

How to evade on a Goldfish.  Step one: Pop vent. Step two: pop shine.  Step three: pop claw. Step four:  Enjoy your engineers panicked screams and your gunner's maniacal laughter.

Thanks.  I kinda figured that it would be there, but I hadn't any time to check.  By the way, that was a beautiful rant there Schwalbe.  Just beautiful.  Especially liked the 'opus diabolicum' bit.

Q&A / Ramming with a Goldfish
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:28:29 pm »
So I'm a noob here, and I like to run either the Goldfish or Pyramidion.  I won't bother talking about the Pyra, because I am here to ask about the viability of ramming with either a Hwachafish or Blenderfish.

With the 'Fishes main gun right up front, it is a risky move to an extent.  Up close is obviously desirable with a Blenderfish, and ramming makes a little bit more sense.  But with a Hwachafish, you want to be just a little bit further away, to get the little bit of spread required for a multiple component attack... unless the enemies armour is down.  This is where I usually ram, and to avoid the whole 'destroying your main gun' issue, I propose a simple, effective solution: come in with your balloon.  Hey, that spike on the fronts gotta be useful for something.

This negates the worry of busting your front gun, and increases your survivability by transferring damage to the balloon, which is pretty beefy.  If you really want, go for an uppercut.  After laying the smack down, just rise up, or if you really want pop hydrogen, and be right up in the bastard's face.  Impossible to miss.  Thoughts?

Basically novice players can choose to search for novice lobby or not-novice lobby. I think it's good for both, novice players won't be crushed and experienced players won't be annoyed.

Of course in theory level cap is not needed because matchmaking will choose people with similar skill anyway... I guess we see the difference between theory and life :P

OK, my noob is showing here, but how do I search in a non-novice lobby?  Sorry if this isn't the place to ask that.

Preferred class: Engi all the way, baby!  And if I'm feeling adventurous, pilot.
I'm from Ontario, Canada eh!  Eastern time zone, eh?

Why I'd like to join: I am clearly a noob, but I know the basics and want to refine my 1337 ub3r h4xx0r 5k1llz basics and get a feel for what it's like to not have people who don't have a clue what's happening yet and haven't quite figured out which end of the mallet does what for crewmates.  I am currently in a clan, yes, but it has all of 2-3 members and I'm pretty sure we're in different timezones.  I'll drop by the Steam page tomorrow and see what's what.  Hopefully I'll have gotten some kind of welcome message by then!   ;D  As said by MeeseApocalypse above... Veni, Vidi, Vici!

Speaking as a noob that is actually decent at what I do, (at least in my humble opinion) I completely agree with Caprontos.  I can take orders, I know how to repair, I know which guns do which (carronade is for balloons, gat is for armor, flak and mortar are for permahull, etc.) I know about what ammo does, I know how badly chem pisses off Cake and Squids, I can shoot and hit stuff, and you will rarely if ever hear me complain.  Unless people are jumping ship.  Or not letting me get mallet hits in.  But I can deal with that.  I would think all of this is pretty good, but I regularly see people who are much higher in level than me and know less than I do!  I think the level cap should be increased.  Maybe level 10?
