World / Re: Lies, Dirty Lies, and Propaganda
« on: November 04, 2014, 10:37:22 am »
Our scholars have recently unearthed historic documents that mentions barbaric pillagers who pestered our ancestors. These savages were called Mongols.

Mongols were savage people, with no language nor civilization. They lived in inhospitable steppes of the North. They refused to make an honest living but raided villages for man-flesh to devour.
They said, and I quote word for word:
Quote
The greatest joy for a man is to defeat his enemies, to drive them before him, to take from them all they possess, to see those they love in tears, to ride their airships, and to hold their wives and daughters in his arms.
The evil barbarians! They deserve only the most abhorred death!

Our ancestors built a Great Wall to defend themselves. It was an architectural wonder, designed by the best masons and bureaucrats of the time, but it not enough to stop the savages. When the walls crumbled, the Mongols took over the entire world.

They brought about an reign of chaos. Murder, hunger, and rape became commonplace. They beheaded entire cities for "entertainment". They burned books and buried alive scholars. It was a dark age for mankind.

My fellow citizens. Let us learn from the mistake of our ancestors. It is not enough to the keep pillagers at bay. We must eradicate them, clear the danger from the face of the earth.

Arm your Galleons and fly north. For your Ambition and Empire's Honor, destroy the Angleans!

May your ambitions be rewarded.

Looks to me to be more of a reverse junker.

Not sure what new role it's have... just a lighter Galleon and a heavier Junker?

Unique, nonetheless.

The Fjord Baronies pride itself to have come from ancient nobility, dating back to the Great War. They promise to be the lords and the protectors of their people. This, my friends, is a lie.

When you meet a Baron, ask him to prove his "noble" lineage. You'll be able to count his ancient ancestors in your hands.

And ask what is noble about his lineage. The scholars rummaging through the great Archive of our empires have discovered that these so-called "Barons" descend from cruel, bloodthirsty and insane power-maniacs and murderers and war-criminals. They promise peace, but they are living representation of violence and madness of the Old World.

The Barons promise to defend their citizens. Do not be deceived. You, the citizen of our glorious empire, live comfortably within the walls of cities, in good weather, under just rule, and with many opportunities. They, the citizens of the false Baronies, live in unprotected hamlets, freezing in the cold, beset by raiders and pirates, and with no chance to improve their status. Know this my citizens, you live in the best and the safest place the world can provide.

Friends, know that the seeming magnificence of the Fjord Baronies can only be false.

Stand firm with the Yesha empire. The treachery of Barons is a treachery only we can defeat.

May your ambition be rewarded.

LeMoon, looked at your idea. It's great. It'd give new engineers (who's yet to discover what repair cool down is) some effectiveness.

But if I had to chose, I'd like a high risk tool better.

Hopefully muse will add both.

Also - engineer moonshine for engines (temporary buff that breaks them over time).

Engineer moonshine would just make a lot of trolls.

Although there are troll/drunk captains who moonshine all day, they are rare. I can see less immature players sabotaging the ship with engineer moonshine. It's already annoying having engineers buff all day.

Me too often: STOP BUFFING THE BALLOON! REBUILD THE ENGINES! OMG HULL! THE HULL! REPAIR THE HULL! STOP BUFFING BALLOON!

But yea, crunching the numbers, 5 stack fire is a bit ridiculous. What about added chance of fire? Kinda opposite to Chem Spray. Useful for experienced Engies who know when they won't get flamed. High-risk high-reward tool.

I ban myself because I'm pretty sure someone's already banned replaceable for being replaceable.

Cool! Engineers don't have a risk tool (like lochnagar and moonshine), and this or something similar would be a nice addition.

But faster rebuild is a little weird. It'd make it a better tool than spanner without set back (because rebuild doesn't have cool down and broken components don't catch fire). So rebuild power should be weaker than the spanner.

Otherwise it'd work. Cool!

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Arbalest Heavy Railgun
« on: November 02, 2014, 07:26:45 pm »
Neat Idea. It'd be cool to see actual Heavy guns on the field. I feel like they'll come with adventure mode.

I feel like range 1400, angle 60 degrees, firerate 40 per min, clip size 25, and damage 235 piercing would be a ted bit OP.

We're talking 5875 damage in 37.5 seconds with high accuracy and a ridiculous gun arc. If I have my math correct, there is not a single ship in GOIO that can stand that much damage.

But cool gun regardless. Probably lower the clip size to single digit, and dramatically reduce the angle (make it so that the whole ship would have to turn around to aim the gun).

Love the concept. :)

Q&A / What do you use Range Finder for?
« on: November 02, 2014, 02:05:36 pm »
Range Finder is probably the least used tool in the game.

I think the only use for it is when you are shooting a lumberjack or heavy flak. Even then, an experienced gunner can hit without a range finder.

Has anybody found a good use for the range finder? If so, what is it?

Gameplay / Re: Why does everyone hate Gunners?
« on: November 02, 2014, 01:57:46 pm »
On the contrary to the Gunner is bad theme, I like to have a gunner on the ship.

I've had too many games with three engineers and no one shooting.
I've yelled these few too many times: SHOT SOMETHING! STOP BUFFING THE BALLOON! THAT SQUID IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR HWACHA!

So, in a pub match, I want a gunner because the gunner is shooting something most of the time. Of course, a coordinated group of three engineers are probably the best crew set. Heck, I've seen four-engineer crew do well.

Q&A / Re: GoIO Lingo?
« on: November 02, 2014, 01:51:40 pm »
This is obvious but still confusing:

Hull/Armor - the repairable health

Hull/Permahull - the irreparable health

In context:

captain: HULL HULL HULL HULL HULL!!!!!! HUUUUUULLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
->Which I take to mean "abandon ship"

The Lounge / Re: Martial arts!
« on: November 02, 2014, 01:44:28 am »
Tae Kwon Do, that's the martial art that I've practiced.

I've done a handful of sparring, and got to the 1st kyup before AP exams and SAT studies crippled me...

Story?
Our gym has the youth-lightweight state champion. I've sparred with him since I was a beginner because he was the only one about my size (other than the instructors, and they don't often spar.)

Got a lot of kicks, to the head, to the chest, to the stomach... didn't hit him too many times.  :(
One memorable moment, I went in for a roundhouse (his left guard was down) and I got back-kicked to the stomach, flew four steps, and smashed into the wall.

The point is, I'm pretty shit when it comes to fights.

I also practiced staff forms and fighting. It's cool, kinda feels like RP, but I doubt I'll ever use it in real life. (Really, does anybody carry around a 2 meter stick?)

I used to do archery (when I was like, what, 8?). I'd like to get back to that.

Right now, I practice pencil-sharpning and essay-writing. The most exciting thing I do is Guns of Icarus.

I'd like to get back to martial arts. As soon as College Apps are done, I think I'll try fencing, or actually learn archery.

Ooo, and when it comes to my most admired martial art, the orb-fighting of Viola from Soul Caliber, but that's half magic...
