The Pit / Re: Ban the User Above You

I ban cavalry and reproach for petty arguments.

I also ban my spellcheck because it thinks 'redroach' should be 'reproach'.

The point of the thread was to see if there are another maneuvers top pilots use.

Do you guys know any?

But Melon, your rams are legendary, and inimitable by common men.

Oh, Battletoad helped me remember one another maneuver,

Galleon Goomba Stomp!

I was in a match that began before my ally Galleon had time to switch to right guns and ammo types. (so he was playing with four lumber, two flare weird galleon). His solution? Goomba Stomp everything with kerosine and chute vent. It was hilarious to see the enemy junker and squid squirm under the iron boot of the galleon.

Sounds cool in theory but I don't think these would be effective in an actual match.

Almost every time someone ends up behind me I just pop off a second or two's worth of tar, enough to disable an entire ship if it is timed right. Also full speed backwards to go behind an enemy astern of you work really well too, considering you have just switched positions and are now behind them

The spire spear was something I've seen only once, and that spire didn't live too long afterwards. But I still think it was a cool maneuver.

The galleon aft ram probably isn't valid in an actual match, but in one of my first non-novice match, this killed me three times in a row.

I forgot one another cool maneuver, squid ink. Move into the enemy, give them a few shots, and than leave them in a cloud of tar. Although, with the tar being a little weird (or balanced) right now, it's not as common as before.

Q&A / Re: Novice mode. Eternal ?
« on: November 11, 2014, 10:41:11 am »
First of all, welcome to Guns of Icarus!

There are some people who argue that novice mode should be eternal...  :) Be glad this isn't the case yet.

Right now, you just need to pass level 7 with one of your classes. But really, the actual graduation from novice comes from having experienced a lot of matches.

I'd be happy to take you out on a spin. I play one to three matches everyday.

Anyways, welcome to Guns of Icarus! Welcome aboard!

Q&A / Re: Evasive Maneuvers

I'll start us off.

Mobula, about to be rammed from the aft, lifts up/down, flies backwards, and ends up behind the ramming ship. Lead up with an immediate trifecta or quadfecta to finish up the ramming ship.

Long-range spire, forced into a close range combat, flies up, positions itself above the enemy ship, chute vents down, activate impact bumper, and performs a perfect goomba stomp.

And my trauma, a goldfish positions itself on the aft of a galleon. Galleon harpoon -> moonshine backward rams it for an instakill. The behind of the fat ship scares me to this day.

She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.

Let's talk about piloting.

You have been ambushed, there is a pyramidion on your aft and a goldfish on your port side beam. Hull/armor is dropping, and your powdermonkey crews are in a full panic mode, cowering on the corner of the ship and crying for their mothers. However, you are the pilot on this ship, and you have a trick up your sleeve...

What is your insane pilot maneuver? What insane pilot maneuvers have you witnessed? Let's talk about maneuvers.

General Discussion / Re: Top pilots

Among one of my early games as an engineer, I got to fly with an amazing Mobula pilot.

He unitized the third dimension to the fullest. He dodged rams and point-blank Hwacha shots. When a Pyramidion was on our tail, he magically switched place with it, putting us behind the Pyramidion.

I remember how the hull armor never seemed to get damaged. The pilot's skills were miraculous.

I've been trying to imitate the moves I saw that game. It's a shame that I can't remember his name.

Sir, if you are still out there, flying your Mobula among the clouds, know that you have an admirer in me. Thank you.

Gameplay / Re: Heatsink: Good or Bad?
« on: November 10, 2014, 10:44:01 pm »
Whenever I engineer on a Pyramidion, I bring a Heatsink for the port-side flamethrower and the fourth-slot utility gun. That makes my job as an engi soooooo much easier. (Though I'm sure better engineers don't need Heatsink).

Heatsink is my preferred choice for light flak for closer range

I'm with sparklerfish with the light flak. More ammo and faster arming. Heatsink provides benefits other than firefighting. I find that heatsink works well with light flak, light carronade, gatling, and flamethrower.

I ban Queso for bringing up boarding, as I play GOIO so I can avoid the stupid, random multiplayer first-person melee.

And as recommended by Mercantile Guild's Heatsink Factory, I found that heatsinked side/aft-guns become one less problem for Engineers who can than focus on Hull and Engines.

And I don't know how this is, but I find that Heatsinked guns magically stay alive better than their non-heatsinked counterparts.

Heatsink application:
Pyramidion side-guns, Goldfish side-guns, Galleon aft-gun, and Squid aft-gun.

These are the secondary guns. No one starts combat on these guns, and no one really pay attention to them until they need them. And many times, they are left out of chemcycles.

And when you need them, they mean the difference between life-and-death.

Keep these guns loaded with Heatsink. Keep them from catching fire, and they will often be alive when you need them. If these guns are flamethrowers, light carronades, or gatling, they will have the advantage of increased clip.

Heatsink on your guns, save your life.

I think communication is bugged too. Whenever I say something, nobody responds back. Seems like this also happens a lot during sales...

Feedback and Suggestions / Character Gender by Class
« on: November 10, 2014, 09:23:49 pm »
One of my favorite things about Guns of Icarus Online is the Aesthetics. The game is simply beautiful. Combat is graceful. The world is sublime.

The character cosmetics, albeit limited, enthralls me.

My favorite Pilot dress happens to be War Room (male), my favorite Engineer dress happens to be The Tinkerer (male), and my favorite Gunner dress happens to be Lost Soldier (female).
It's quite a hassle switching my gender every time I switch to gunner. I'd like cosmetic gender to be locked to each class.

I might be asking Muse too much, and I don't want to increase their workload with a irrelevant request. So I want you guy's opinion.

Do you guys sympathize with my annoyance? Do you guys think this is big enough of an issue to request a change?

Thank you for reading.  :)
