From the Journal of Beckett Hafgufa:

If this is victory, I'd hate to see defeat.

I'm alive. More than many can say. That's something. Drunk, too. Drunk as hell. It numbs everything-drowns out the smoke and sand and heat.

I need that numbness.

Florivet's a limping wreck. We had to jettison most our remaining ammo to prevent a fire, and to keep us afloat. The balloon's more patches than canvas, and we're running at half-throttle to give the two remaining engines a break. Keiran and Rorin have done their best-we'll make it port, but every time the hull creaks, I start preparing to meet my maker. And the hull creaks a lot. I don't know how they stay sane. Every time I think I'm running ragged, I look at them.

Would you believe we're the lucky ones?

Lost the mercenary captain I was with. Ship named after a pastry, but they fought like devils. Maddest bastard I've flown with, and I've flown with a lot of mad bastards. His idea of strategy was to charge into the enemies teeth, and knock out their Baron before they could form a defense. I was cursing him to hell and back, even as I followed him into the lion's den.

We did it, though. We killed their Baron. Blasted his ship clean out of the sky.

Battle went worse for us after that. Most of the mercenaries died, and we lost a good chunk of the fleet. Our merchant ships were soft targets-went up like fireworks the moment they got hit. The Baron might had died quick, but the Maruaders or Menace-whatever they were-was every bit as good as I was afraid of. In the end, I called a retreat-burned our engines out with kerosene and 'shin, and got the limping remains of our fleet of there.

So. Victory. How about it?

I hope the Pact bloody appreciates what's left of their shipment.

I'm going to go find more moonshine.

Captain Beckett Hafgufa.

The Green Sun Trading Co now has a logo!

Credit goes to Keiran Gold, and the false memories that lead to me imaging that she had drawn me a clan logo, panicking her by demanding a clan logo without any description of what it should be a day or two before I wanted it because I distinctly remembered her having started it, then describing the logo that I clearly remembered her having given me and forcing her to draw it based on my semi-lucid babbling.

I apologize if I have unleashed a demonic glyph upon you.

The fact that you have a image ready for that gives me all the justification I need for making that mistake.

From the Journal of Beckett "Doc Tentacles" Hafgufa:

It's funny. I never though I'd be fighting for the Angleans again. Not after I signed on with the Mercantile Guild.

The company wants what the company wants, however, and war's worth a fortune. The Pact needs guns, ammo, and fuel-and Green Sun can provide for the right price.

So I guess I'm fighting for the League again.

Hell. Stranger things can happen.

I've got a fleet now. Ships, holds packed to the bursting, fat and heavy with fodder for the war machine, all in a line. Not just merchants. Escorts, too, bristling with weapons. We're a small company, but the boss has gambled a lot on this. And he's put me in charge. Me, Florivet, and whatever poor sods he managed to hire to protect us. I could have stolen it, gone pirate. Retired a rich man.

More hells.

Instead, I'm staring through my spyglass at an entire mercenary fleet. The Crimson Sky Marauders they call themselves. Mercenaries, traitors, and pirates. Scum, some might call them. They've been cursed up and down as the heroes of the last great war who turned traitor and joined the Coalition. I never much cared for politics. The point is, they're warriors. Real ones.

We're not soldiers, but we've fought battles, and we'll fight again today. This isn't our war, but we're in it, and we'll win. Or at least survive.

Or at least that's what I'm going to tell myself.

I gave my crew a chance to run. None of them took it it. Don't know if they're stupid, or smart enough to realize the desert's a slower death than the Marauders.

I should have stolen the caravan.

I hope there's room in the Marauder's heart for mercy.

Captain Beckett Hafgufa.

Any of you fine gentlemen willing to help a humble Guild Trading company ferrying goods to it's northern interests?

So it's a republic called an empire, with hints at a a caste system. Curious.

Something like the Aiel from Wheel of Time, or Fremen from Dune. Full of infighting, with greater allegiance for tribe than nation, but ready to turn on outsiders like a next of wasps the moment they're poked. Maybe an emergency tribe council, or a once-a-year festival where they all gather at neutral ground to trade, but no formal national government.

It's unlikely there's a true "Good Guy" faction. The Chalcedonians have a "utopian" society...but beyond the obvious cultish isolationism/"screw the rest of the world, I've got mine," they seem pretty heavy on the authoritarian scale.

I think it's more likely the Fjord baronies have a parliamentary monarchy-they definitely have a King. So basically a hereditary oligarchy, but more structured. Like England, if you surgically removed the House of Commons.

I've always viewed Yesha as much like Imperial China, with the addition of a caste system. An Emperor, yes, but also a vast bureaucracy, with civil service tests to determine your role, and possibly secure advancement. It would be hard/impossible to move outside of your assigned caste, though you could advance within it.

Anglea might have a sort of tribal moot-the tribes elect a head, and the head represents them within the Althing.

The Mercentile guild, on the other hand, is interesting. I keep going back to Venice for a model for their government, with a Doge/Prince that is chosen among various great corporation-houses.

Chalcodon is kinda a blank

Release Notes / Re: Version 1.3.8 Release Notes

Had the default helm position been changed? To my recollection, I had spokes at 1:30-10:30. Now I have a spoke at 12:00, which blocks my view on a Lumberfish. Super petty and minor, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm hallucinating. It's annoying, though.

Why does the Goldfish lose fins every couple patches? It looks silly without the fin they removed.

207
1. Favourite ship to fly. (Not including the build.) Goldfish
2. Favourite ship to engineer on. If we're counting "be an engineer" spire or mobula, because I spend most of my time on a gun during a good match. For purely engineer, prya. So easy to fix everything.
3. Favourite light gun. Mercury. Reach and touch you.
4. Favourite heavy gun. Lumberjack or Carronade. I hate balloons.
5. Favourite gun overall. Carronade. One stop shot to destroying your ship.
6. Favourite 2v2 map: Canyon Ambush. Tests flying, tactics, and allows fun close-ranged hit and runs.
7. Favourite larger than 2v2 only map.(Ones you see on 3v3 and 4v4.) Raid on Refinery. I love Crazy King.
8. Favourite map overall. Canyon Ambush. Crazy King is something I have to take in small doses, despite my love.
9. Favourite ammo type. Lochnagar. So circumstantial. Such risk. Such fun when you one-shot a balloon in the first engage.
10. Favourite ship build: Carrofish
11. Favourite headwear: Long Hair (Mens)
12. Favourite outfit: Dust Rider
13. Favourite Goggles: The shiny silver shades.
14. Favourite ship theme. Traveller
15. Favourite figurehead: Octopus. Look at my name.
16. Would you rather, Deathmatch, King of the Hill or Crazy king. Crazy King, usually, but depends on mood.
17. Rank in order of preference, Pilot, Gunner and Engineer. Pilot>Gunner>Engineer
18. Buffgi/Gunji or Main? Gunji
19. Lion gun OP? Only if you know how to use it.
20. Are there too many questions? (Tick here: no[ :o] no[8) ] )
21. Have you found a better community than GOIO? No

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Fire Stack Timeout
« on: October 16, 2014, 03:44:38 pm »
Not sure why we need a fire nerf, considering that Chem Spray already pretty much removes the danger of fire stakes, leaving only it's direct damage to contend with. This just seems like it pretty much removes any possibility of hit and run tactics with fire.

Q&A / Re: Is a shots damage applied simultaniously or sequentially?
« on: October 04, 2014, 01:10:19 pm »
It is, indeed, the latter-the primary damage is applied, then the secondary. For more info, you can read this thread https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,226.0.html.
