Feedback and Suggestions / Increase lobby match timer when crew joins
« on: August 09, 2014, 07:29:57 am »
It is extremely annoying to have the ability to join a game with 1 second on the timer, before you can check loadouts, before you can check ships, before you can select your team, before you can coordinate with your captain, etc.

Unless you join a game w/o max captains, its a lottery where if you win you get to be the third gunner on a ship and have lochnagar rounds for the hwacha.

There are several solutions to this:

1. Increase match timer by 10 seconds whenever someone joins.
2. Raise match timer to 30 seconds whenever someone joins.
3. When games are under "countdown" new joins will auto go to the spectator slot (this is my least fav solution...it doesn't address the problem)
4. Allow people to see match countdowns on the match list screen. This is problematic because that screen is delayed anyway.

Thanks!

I was wondering if there was any interest in getting some asymmetric team objective types of maps, something other than CtF or DM.

I'm taking a lot of the inspiration of this from Chivalry, one of the only other PvP games I play.

One suggestion is a "kill the king" type of map, in which the the teams area 3v4 or some such arrangement, with one ship on the 3 ship team being the "king". The King's guns do additional damage and has additional hull health, but obviously you lose if the king dies. The defending team may have longer respawns, etc. The penalty to the defending team as well as the bonus to the king's abilities leads to an interesting choice for the defenders: try to turtle for as long as possible even with the numbers disadvantage, or have a king fight as much as possible to gain the upper hand.

One way to balance just being a super tanky king (and 3 engies on hull, etc) is to have the king's armor rebuilds only be half effectiveness, or have extremely large but non repairable armor, or alternatively have no armor at all but extremely high hull.

Alternatively it could be a round based assault type, 3v3 or 4v4, where the teams alternate attacking/defending and win based on time to kill.

Similar to this, you can repurpose the Crazy King mode into a series of 5 or 6 point caps, in which certain points are locked until all previous points are capped (say 1+2 block 3, 3 blocks 4+5). It would lead to interesting team splits and maneuverability vs staying power which is already a consideration on Crazy King. Again this would be an attacking/defending setup.

Oh man and then you could do a system where the points themselves have npc defending ships, and each team's base sends out waves of smaller fodder ships which you could kill to power up your ship and ...  (please don't kill me =D)

Q&A / Evasion and Approach on a Pyramidion
« on: May 30, 2014, 08:42:34 am »
Hey yall,

I've been learning how to fly a pyramidion better, and I was wondering if you had any tips on flying a metamidion, flamer/mortar, flamer/carro close range pyra.

I found the pyra to have a godawful turn speed, lazy balloon (though too fast with hydrogen...I need to get used to this), and I don't have too high of a success rate on ramming.

With claw as a given, what else do yall use? Moonshine or kerosene? Hydrogen?

And what are some tips for approaching ships that haven't spotted you yet? What about if they've spotted you? I've been relying on speed and charging but that doesn't work well vs hwachas or other fast ships who can just back away from you.

What if you're attacked from behind? I haven't had much success running away or disabling ships that come from behind, esp more maneuverable ships like goldfish and squids.

Q&A / Priority One (Engi Achieve, Fixin', Rank 12)
« on: May 27, 2014, 05:26:52 pm »
I had a question about the "Rebuild 45 parts less than 5 seconds after destruction".

Uh, 5 seconds isn't very long, even sitting at the part and spamming rebuild.

AFAIK the only possible way to do this solo is sit on a squid's hull.

Was that the intention of this? Was the intention to have this be a teamwork thing? (Though I don't see it listed under teamwork) If so, I would suggest that instead of promoting teamwork it actively harms it, as people will not repair until the last tick in order to grab this achieve. And actually thats what most of the rebuild achieves boil down to heh, but that's another story.

So Engi's, what did you do for this achievement?
