I was playing with a new player the other day who made a good suggestion:

Captains should set certain slots of their ships to only be filled by certain classes

Meaning that a captain could chose to have all spots be for engineers so only engineers could join those spots, they could also chose to have one gunner spot and 2 engineer spots and so on. I imagine this would work in a similar way to loadout recommendations.
I believe this is a good way to solve the problem of having too many gunners while at the same time not being biased towards engi/gunner if the current meta changes (double gunner becomes somehow viable)

I dont like this idea of adding secondary fire to guns, imo its giving some guns an unnecessary buff (with the exception of the harpoon) heavy carronade especially seeing as how its already a slightly op weapon, can you imagine if it had a zoom?

You really shouldn't say gunners are needed in matchmaking if you are just going to put me on a ship which already has a gunner.
2 gunners are not good in any case

A lot of times I do like joining lobbys with a lot of new players in, mainly because its always a joy to find someone who listens and wants to learn how to play the game, but ofc, they need the right attitude for that which is sadly lacking in most new players.
Other times its nice to have a good challenge to be the only person on the ship that really knows how to play. (I do like to play with friends but pub stomping does get boring)
Problem with new players is that oftimes they have not got the right attitude and instead of learning the game and making friends simply quit and find an easier game. That said, I love this game for its complexity and would hate to see it dumbed down just for the sake of making more money...

A debate goes on my head over which is more important, running from imminent death or making sure heavy flares exist in the world.
After 3 seconds I go back to my research

I notice the killstealer completely ignored me, he must be too afraid of lagging to come near my research. They must have a very bad internet connection.

I pick up the SPRC and make my way outside.
Looking at the killstealer I realise I'm gonna need a bigger flare gun, so I move near a very stable server and start work on the heavy flare CANNON
