Glowwater Thralls 5 vs 2 Mad Hatters
The Clamour 5 vs 1 Museosaurs
Overwatch 5 vs 2 Deadpool's Army

The Art of Warfare 1 vs 5 Sacrilege
Sky Invading Rhinos 5 vs 4 Cake
Black Flight Squadron 3 vs 5 Zill's Merry Men

Rydr 5 vs 3 Holy Roman Army

-Glowwater Thralls are definitely one of the strongest teams, and as much as Mad Hatters aren't the worst either, I believe that the Thralls' experience and skill level still will be overwhelming for the Hatters.
-The Clamour have quite the big shoes to fill for Mandarins, and as it stands they do give quite a show, beating Hatters and causing trouble for Thralls. They will definitely take the win against Muse, though I expect a slip as usual for the benefit of Muse Team.
-Overwatch definitely have quite unique style, and they are more experienced than DPA, but they tend to heavily focus about disabling strategies, which I expect may be to the benefit of aggressive Deadpool team. That being said, other than few kills caused by being caught out of position I think OVW experience will win the game for them, together with a little effort.

-I understand that TAW may have trained hard, but I don't think it's to the level of many other teams yet, including Sacrilege. SAC in my eyes would be undefeated if not for the time restrictions during their last match, and defeating SIR is a proof in itself that they are a force to be reckoned with.  Hard to say what will be the main factor for the match result here, is it yet too little an experience from TAW, or incredibly good performance from SAC. Nevertheless, I expect it to be quite one-sided here.
-This is one of the toughest matches to predict. Cake showed us that they are incredibly powerful team, that is wise not to be underestimated, but I've been a witness of SIR training quite alot this week. Add their overall competitive performance and you have them as winners, though I'm sure this will be a close, and really exciting match.
-Now this is the match I expect everyone to be excited about. From my perspective, being quite a freshman in GoIO competitive community, I can only judge it by the performance of both teams during their matches. I expect MM to take this one, for even if they still need to get the dust off their playbook and rust off their ship engines, they seemed more reliable with their performance in the Hephaestus' Challenge than BFS, that indeed do try to think outside the box, but it's yet to work for them effectively, especially since they have the same issues as Merry Men, being dormant for some time.

-HRA did well in their matches, but it was against the teams that still struggle with their performance and only warm up for more serious games. This time they'll stand against a much more experienced team, and Rydr, of all the teams possible (self advertising). I believe that this game will be quite intense, but if we Ryders will manage to get the pilots we want, we should be able to take the win. Good Luck and let's have a good game HRA o/

Just a little piece of proof that if a player is willing to use something effectively in a set number, it can, and will, work well for them if played properly.

The amount of guns on the ship should be player's decision and player's decision only. If they feel like taking 5 mine/flare/poon, let them, it's their choice and their responsibility for taking this kind of build and not any other. If people sign up as a team they most likely know one another to the point where they can trust them with not taking anything they will consider stupid, they probably won't grab just any other person from the global chat that can take a unique ship layout they can't even use properly, so you don't have to worry about them taking anything that will cause "unpleasant feeling for their allies". That being said, as much as I doubt anyone will use 5 poon junker, I believe it is for the player to decide whether or not it's viable for him.

Guides / Re: Being the mortar gunner aboard a metamidion

Lesmok isnt viable atm.
With the extreme decrease in clip size you cant kill the enemy in one clip. Lesmok is currently just not viable for the mortar.

Lesmok Mortar can deal up to 1008 with one clip, not to mention it can always be buffed (and most of the time will be buffed). That's more than enough to kill most of the ships, especially considering that the DPS on lesmok rounds is higher than on burst rounds (262.08 DPS vs 209.92 DPS is quite significant).

To be honest efficiency of certain ammo types on mortars depends on how are you going to use it, and which ship are you going to fly with and against. Greased rounds provide highest DPS, guaranteeing a successful kill most of the time even if there's 2 engineers repairing the hull on enemy ship, but can be used effectively only on a very close range. Lesmok rounds on the other hand can shoot greater distances, which can get the enemy off-guard, and of course because of the increased projectile speed and lift they're also more accurate against ships with small hull hitbox, like squids or junkers. Burst rounds have the lowest DPS of all three, but can deal more total damage, so they are much more forgiving of missed shots compared to the other two, and their range is kind of a middle ground between greased and lesmok. Also, with one burst shot dealing 27 damage to the component it can be useful to slightly damage, or even disable enemy's guns, reducing their effectiveness by reducing their health.

Speaking of which, there's that one thing with burst rounds that kinda intruiges me, and since this is the perfect thread for it, I'll let myself ask you this. Artemis' AoE range is 3.5, 5.25 with burst rounds, and it is often mentioned that Burst rounds on artemis are effective because you can hit multiple components because of its wide AoE range. Now, with that being said, Mortar's AoE radius is 8 by base, so it already is significantly more than Artemis', and this AoE applies to Normal rounds, Greased rounds and Lesmok rounds alike. Why increase it to AoE radius of 12 with Burst rounds, giving you Lumberjack's AoE all the same, if according to the effectiveness of Artemis 5.25 is enough to deal damage to multiple components? Wouldn't it be better to rather stick to Greased rounds, significantly increasing your DPS while still having as much potential to kill Galleon/Goldfish, and still with the same disable power, or Lesmok, for increased DPS (less than greased, but still better than burst), but also greatly increased range and accuracy?

Ok then, in that case I'm gonna put my predictions in here:

Rydr 5 vs 4 OVW
Muse 0 vs 5  Thralls
Clamour 3 vs 5 Hatters

BFS 3 vs 5 HRA
SAC 5 vs 4 Cake
SIR 5 vs 1 TAW

DPA 2 vs 5 MM

General Discussion / Re: My 60 Second Review of Guns of Icarus

As far as the learning curve goes, I can't say that it's incredibly difficult to learn the basics of the game. It's comparable to other teamwork based semi-strategy including games, that I'd dare to put all kinds of MOBAs here - it's easy to understand the basics, but there are some things you can learn along the way as you play, and you end up with certain gameplay aspects that one can master. Such things, like stripping the armor from the enemy ship before finishing them off with a mortar, or rebuilding red component with a spanner instead of a mallet, are not really much more difficult to understand than AP or AD ratio on your skills in LoL or Smite. One does need to put some effort to learn the game mechanics, though, and that's in GoIO as well as many other games, but I can't really say you need to put any more effort in this game compared to the others.

When it comes to matchmaking, ending up with lvl 10+ people may be frustrating, but there's a reason why there are 1 to 3 lvl novice lobbies in this game. I suggest joining open lobbies only after you lvl up all 3 classes to level 3, and then keep playing novice matches until you level up to level 4 with one class, so you can stay in novice matches as long as possible, and get as much experience in the newbie lobby as one can get, so you'll have a good headstart before stepping into actual, normal games.

Overall really nice review, I just can't help but wonder if your opinion about the game being too difficult doesn't actually come from not playing tutorials and not joining novice matches, for it is kinda obvious that a fresh newbie won't have alot of fun if he decides to join a game against a veteran with thousands of matches played, especially if he is yet to learn the game's basics, but neither was it intended for anyone to do something like this if they don't want to.

Sunday Community Skirmish #4 - R4ge vs MiCa on Northern Fjords. "Mighty Pew Pew" Pyra gets away from 1v2 in a quad metamidion match.

*ducks fly through the screen, right by the fleeing pyra*
Fourth Oracle:Birds are like "Kaw, you should get the hell out of here, kaw"... oh, those are ducks, so it's like "quack, quack, get out, quack"...
RottedBeef:it's the Ducks, so they're like "Why aren't you guys flying a Junker?!"

I asked Rob on his stream about an hour before SCS matches started about uploading their stuff on youtube. Although I didn't specify I meant mostly uploading Fork and Hephaestus videos, he did say that he has a big-ass hard drive with all the stuff recorded and currently archived, and he will upload it at some point. So no worries, although not now, VODs will get there.

@Edit: I take that back, just checked their YT account, the videos from the first Hephaestus Week are already there.

I ban Hunter for calling Shink lazy while having the same engineer level and lower level in other classes.

Well, the show will be archived on my channel if you want to watch it later, at least. Not the same, but still.

I'll let myself for a little bit of offtopic here, now that you mentioned it (also I'm having a hard time finding you in the game :P).

Is it possible to get the previous matches (Sunday Community Skirmishes #1 and #2, for example) on either your twitch or YT channel? I wanted to re-watch it, but apparently you have it set on twitch that it deletes the videos after some time, and I can't find the videos anywhere. Also, I like your music choice, added Kamelot and Dark Moor to my power metal playlist thanks to you :P

Slightly back on topic, I'll gladly watch the show, can't wait.

Yea, we all know how this would look, but just recently flamer was barely used. Now it got buffed, and we see it more, why make it so you'll set enemy projectiles on fire and burn yourself, just so it won't be used again?

Q&A / Re: Priority One (Engi Achieve, Fixin', Rank 12)
« on: May 27, 2014, 07:08:19 pm »
This is basically an achievement that you do by rebuilding a part with someone else, if, for example, you are pinned down to the ground and you lose your balloon constantly, you sit on the balloon along with another person and you rebuild it all the time. Other common situation where you do it is when you lose hull quickly all the time, taking alot of enemy fire, and where another person from the ships helps you in keeping the ship alive. I didn't actually farm this particular achievement, for more often than not I found myself in a situation where two of us just had to be glued to a component if we wanted to repair it fast enough to survive another day. I suggest doing it on a goldfish or squid, as you find yourself in such situation alot and usually there's two people keeping watch of the hull on those ships. Other ships, such as galleon and pyramidion, are ok too if you fight against someone that intensely puts your hull down, but you don't have any enemy in a gun arc. It is doable in normal play quite easily, and doesn't really require farming (at least not as much as 1km kills).

I actually hoped this feature was implemented so you can burn down enemy projectiles mid-air before they hit your ship, but as of now I have a feeling it doesn't do anything other than just the fact it triggers at all. Maybe that's for the best, flamer is powerful enough as it is, making it also a defensive weapon would be an overkill, and so would be buffing projectiles with an ignition chance.

As much as the idea seems cool (can't really say necessary for the game, but still cool), are you even able to do these things with an Airship? How are you supposed to Roll with a ship that flies because of a balloon attached with ropes to a piece of swinging metal? I'm not really good at this stuff, but even to me it seems like airships and planes work a little bit different, and the rules you imply on adding are only applicable for fixed-wing type of aircraft, are they not?
