Gameplay / Re: Banshee Light Rocket Carousel
« on: May 14, 2015, 09:12:03 am »
Personally, I'm a rather big fan of the carousel and there are a few builds where the carousel is a fairly effective tool such as:

Kill/disable squid:
Gat front/ carousel side/ carro rear.
This allows for kill focused front/right and balloon disables with rear.

Brawling type mobula:
You can use either gats below/ carousel top and right wing OR gats on hull below and right wing with balloon mortar and carousel top.
The placement of these weapons means that the gunner will primarily be using the right wing gun while the top carousel can be used by the pilot if the enemy cannot maneuver out of the way while their hull breaks.

Brawling Spire:
Dual gats top with Hwacha/carousel below
Greased carousel firing time syncs nicely with Hwacha reloads allowing the gunner to effectively use both guns below at near full efficiency while the two engis are up top focusing the gatlings. Alternatively you can swap the right gat with the left carousel and have an engi downstairs while pilot uses the carousel though its a bit less efficient.

"Meta" Junker:
Gat mortar right side/ Either triple carousel OR Hades double carousel left side
Triple banshee is easier and can decently take balloons down allowing for somewhat of balloon control at long range with light guns. Alternatively, Hades double carousel can threaten a lot of fires while putting a hammering on balloon and hulls; however, its really difficult to be able to put and keep all 3 in arcs considering there is only a 5 degree overlap.

Side banshees have also been very useful for the gat/carro pyra for quicker kills via the hull engi.
There's also a somewhat silly Pyra by using incendiary gat/ double greased banshee pyra. You would be surprised at how easy it would be to 8 stack an unprepared weapon with that. Of course it's very vulnerable to chem sprayed ships so its better to bring a gunner with incendiary and greased for that occasion.

The main thing to take advantage of is its fast turn rate/ high arcs/ and quick fire rate. The fact that it can do somewhat decent at balloons and start a few fires is more a bonus on top of those advantages.

Guides / Re: [N2] Nano's Noobs 103 - Crewing a metajunker
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:10:45 pm »
Yes, but the trick to the Junker's armor is that while its slightly weaker compared to galleon armor its a much harder target to hit. The junker hull is extremely hard to hit and the cluttered components means shots hitting the back are more likely to hit the guns and engines rather than the hull. Its not uncommon for the gat to require a reload due to its natural spread causing a few missed shots, or by shooting toward the back of the junker causing a few shots to go into some of the components instead.

The hades is a very good gun for hull strip; however, Its also an extremely hard gun to shoot accurately at range with. Hitting a ships' hull consistently at >1000m with a hades is difficult against most ships regularly. Having to hit a junkers' hull at that range is almost impossible, and it probably is impossible against a captain with good component/balloon health if he is taking evasive maneuvers considering the junkers' excellent acceleration stats. The hades is mostly good against the junker so long as you are able to also consistently take out its balloon as well to use that as the target for the hull damage.

Aside from the gatling, the most reliable piercing weapon to hit a junker with would be the mercury due to its high piercing burst damage but more importantly its high accuracy and ease of use enables it to consistently strike the hull even at long ranges. Of course, the mercury has its own host of problems with its gun arcs.

Of course the reason you rarely see junkers lately is because they tend to be weaker against disable ships (i.e. blenderfish).

There already is a santa costume in game if you've ever seen HamsterIV's santa suit.

It has the big hat, the beard, and the jacket with boots all laid out in holly jolly red.

Both Lesmok and Greased rounds slow gun rotation. Though, greased rounds have a less pronounced effect compared to lesmok and is typically used in guns with faster basic turn rate anyway.

As far as I can recall that glitch only happens when two of the same ship class (ie. pyra) die at approximately the same time from each other. Though I feel like it might have become rarer lately then when ship themes first came about so that's good.

To say that this game is not about communication defeats the main core of this game.

This game was built on the foundation of teamwork. The teamwork between the crew of the ship on the lowest level and teamwork between ships and captains on the highest level are necessary to make the most effective fighting force possible. In fact, I would say that this game requires much more teamwork compared to other games like LoL, PAYDAY, or Killing Floor. Even in those games you are able to perform well on a basic level "flying solo" so to speak with minimal communication. However, in GOIO in order for someone to do anything you must rely on everyone else on the ship. For such things to come to fruition communication is a must.

Even though most people who have played the game for longer than a year or so know what they are doing doesn't mean they don't need communication. My first question to any captain I would serve under is to ask what I need and what he expects of me. I would also argue that on a higher level comms are less about the basic acts that need to be performed and more about what the ship as a whole needs to do and requires much more communication with the co-captain regardless of one's experience in the game.

A communication ruining gun or component would only encourage clans to only play with each other and use ts, mumble, skype, or party chat more often since normal comms will be so easily disrupted. A comms disrupting weapon would be a thing that would destroy pub matches and ruin the fun of people being able to play with other people they don't often play with.

Thank you for reading and I hope everyone has a good day!

I appreciate the thought, but I've been visiting the forums since before I started playing. I just tend to stick to lurking the forums rather then saying anything.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Make team colors more visible
« on: March 26, 2015, 11:26:30 am »
The main method I use to quickly determine friend from foe is to glance at the compass at the top as it gives a lot of relevant info pertaining to friend, foe, and positioning.

Your ally on the compass will always be denoted as a grey circle, the size of the circle is relative distance and how far up/below/center of the compass is their height relative to your ship (so a small grey circle at the top means your ally is far away above you)

Your spotted enemies will show up on your compass as their team color (such that if you're red team, then all spotted enemies will be blue circles on the compass and vice versa.) and will follow the same size and height rule as your allies.

If you see a ship and its not spotted, you can quickly look at your compass at the top of the screen. If you don't see a grey circle or if the grey circle isn't lined up properly relative to the ship in question either horizontally or vertically then the ship is probably an enemy.

Translation:

So I saw this other topic about if Guns of Icarus will become an MLG game and I realized that we didn't have enough competitive teams, so Muse I think a good priority to add would be Leetspeak badges.

Update: I thought it would be super cool if we had a new ship that had a component that allowed us to control enemy ships like in FTL or something because we don't have enough airships in game.

OMG, my letters are rad. I think its the Illuminati.

Hello Raeken,

To answer your question I do not know the name of the starting theme to the game, but I do believe that the composer to the theme goes by the username Ressorius. He is usually in-game and you should be able to PM him about it. Have a good day!
