The Lounge / Re: The Codex of Zuka
« on: March 05, 2018, 02:32:14 pm »
It has been too long since we updated this and I fear a generation of GOI players may have come and gone without knowing Zuka. I weep for them as I would weep for all who go through life ignorant to the sublime highs and depraved lows association with Zuka will provide.

*Zuka can fly harder, reload faster, and reach more components faster than any other pilot/gunner/engie because even the Guns of Icarus software recognizes it is impossible for Zuka to run out of stamina.
* Zuka has sworn never to use his powers for evil.
* Zuka's concept of good and evil differs greatly from the views held by mortal men.
* Wealthy young men wear golden chains with stylized Z's as a way of signaling wealth and sexual potency to the opposite sex.
* This fashion trend has resulted in precisely one man getting laid, and that man is Zuka.
* There is no substitute for Zuka, however there is always enough Zuka to go around.
* In most legal text it is not illegal to be Zuka, however in the Book of Zuka it is illegal not to be Zuka.
* The punishment for not being Zuka is a firm spanking followed by a gallon of Zuka Sauce being slowly poured over the offender.
* Legal scholars have "debated" the Book of Zuka as a legal text for years, the results were more debauched than spring break in Tijuana.
* "Debating the Book of Zuka" has surpassed the wet tee-shirt contests as the preferred act of sexual exhibitionism among horny collage kids.

Gameplay / Re: What have you done?

I wrote that before the Storm breaker was released for PvP. I have no idea what to do with the Shrike. It can't control range and shoot at the same time, and it doesn't have the firepower or hull to function as a galleon. Storm breaker is a beast.

Mines also require coordination between gunner and pilot. No matter how good the gunner is, if the pilot can't put the ship in a position to use mines effectively it is a wasted gun.

I ban Queso for the pages of this thread lost in the server restoration. Their silliness is gone but not forgotten.

Glad those forum less days are over. My coworkers were getting tiered of me talking about the GOIO meta game.

I sent a feedback email to Muse on November 30th and have not had a reply. They are usually better than this.

Q&A / Re: HELP!! Can't progress in game without knowing this
« on: December 04, 2017, 06:30:48 pm »
It sounds like you are in a novice lobby . The game blocks certain ship and load out options if the lobby marked novice. It also blocks out any player above Level 8 unless Muse gives the player special permission. Novice players can join normal lobbies and have full access to all ships and weapon configurations. Everyone in a Novice lobby is restricted to the same ships and everyone in a Normal Lobby has the same access to tools and ships so please don't look at this as a higher level power advantage. It is there to prevent new players from having a bad experiences with ships they don't know how to use properly.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Restore stackable crew form
« on: December 01, 2017, 01:00:32 pm »
Classic crew form means that if your lobby ends all ships from your original crew form will be returned there instead of split up into different crew forms.
I did not take that as your meaning from the original post. I assumed you meant that in lobby you could jump between ships on both sides so long as there was an empty slot. I argued for the current post lobby death crew form because I of AFK players and absentee lobby leaders. Technically I argued that here should be a "Go Rouge" button that would take your ship out of a multi ship crew form and stick your current crew into a single ship crew form.

Also there is a severe lack of large mid level clans that used to exist somewhere between grox and skbo. Think srep, ra, cake, dagz, sm.

I don't know what you are talking about, Cake was always a top tier clan in my eyes. They were always pushing the game's meta and didn't mind loosing a few matches to make a point.

As for your original point, Muse probably has data on player retention before and after the team swap block was implemented so they probably know better than we do if the feature helped or hindered the growth of the mid tier skill player base. As the veteren player base knows how to circumvent the team swap blocking (friending, exiting and join friend) reverting back to crew form classic would be be a convenience. I would like the convenience, but only if it would also help grow the over all community (including the scrubs).

I Ban Quest for making my weak willed self feel unwelcome in the pit. If that is ok with everyone.

The alliance ships are a pain to repair and have terrible gun arcs, I stick to the 2 year old meta and am doing fine. Novices just have more options for stupid builds.

#Bringback4LightGunStormbreaker

That thing was a beast, No captain should be allowed to wield a forward firing double gat mortar trifecta on an easy to fix ship. Even nerfed into its current form the Stormbreaker is my go to murder platform.

World / Re: Faction Words for other Factions: A Cultural Experience

From the Arashi point of view other factions are:
Guild is fatty meat,
Barony is salty meat,
Angelean is fluffy meat,
Chaladonian is salad,
Yeshan is painted meat. (tattoos)

In my eyes the Arashi are cannibals.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Is world conquest fun?

I don't know how I would "Fix" the current system to make it fun. Looking at the faction leadership, there are some people who find this sort of meta game fun, but I just don't have the time for it. Guns of Icarus is mostly a social game and reducing your fellow players to a steadily climbing number on a map's completion bar lacks the personal touch. It seems like the minimum amount of effort for Muse to have successfully implemented a "Persistent World" they promised in the kick starter.

If I had complete creative control over the project back when the Alliance kickstarter was a gleam in Howard's eye, I would have proposed the project differently. Instead of a Coop PVE I would have proposed a single player campaign that would have acted like an extended tutorial for PvP. Just like Call of Duty uses single player to introduce the player to all the game mechanics, Guns of Icarus should have done the same.

I don't know if it would be in the budget but I would have liked to see a single player campaign lead the player from being an engineer, gunner, and eventually pilot on all AI ships complete with talking crew. Crew that would tell the player to get to their station or to use a specific ammo with certain guns. By the time the player completed the single player game they should know what ammos work best with which guns, how the air ship throttle works, and the difference between armor an perma hull.
There should also be dramatic set piece sequences like ancient mountain sized artillery shooting, troop landings, merchant escort missions to build upon the lore and break up the monotony of game play.

Ultimately my analysis comes with the hindsight of watching PVE split the community and lower lobby count. PvE coop sounded like a great idea when it was proposed, and Muse probably did the best they could with the resources they had.
