Gameplay / Re: Spire Collection
« on: May 20, 2013, 11:33:52 am »
I like to play Pyramidion matidor with my Spires.  Fly full speed backwards as they try to ram, right before they hit turn 90 degrees and fly sideways causing them to miss, continue turning, run away and smack them with tar barrel as I re establish range advantage, OLE!
Simply beautifully described, congratulations. Got a giggle out of me. :D

With my limited understanding I think Spire is a communications-heavy ship. I don't mean the others wouldn't be, but every time I've crewed a Spire we've lost if the captain didn't tell us where the enemy is, which gun to man and when to have an engie on the other main gun. And, if the pilot isn't up to speed with his/her ship, Spire ends up as rubble to yet another duneside. It is true the Spires are prime targets for gunning down ASAP (*cough*), but that just means the teammate has to understand to support his friend with a more durable ship or otherwise help the Spire do what it does best.

The possibility for the captain to determine the location and size of the guns.

Perhaps the skywhale is not an animal that was originally so huge even a powder-monkey could hit it, but a small fish that evolved huge airbags? after the wrecking that made the Wastes the to-be skywhales noticed that "hey, air is nice" and conquered new ground because there were no seas left for them. The ones that could fly higher got bragging- and mating rights, which in turn made bigger skywhales.

On the question what they eat I think they absorb moisture from the clouds, random birds and occasionally land on unsuspecting people and animals from the sky. Because they are mostly air and lighter gases they do not need that much for nutrition. But, the skywhale skin was the best for boots, air-balloons and other need-to-be-reliable surfaces. Plus, it has the underlayer that is tastier than revenge.

59 bottles of moonshine on the wall, 59 bottles of fine stuff o a whale. Take one down, pass out around, 58 guys on floor of the hall.

Oh god of Bacon, I have sinned! I shall commit suicide by flying my Squid next to a Spire and waving a finger at it. Hopefully I will only stir on the divine frying pan till the endtimes instead of being flung to the Pit of Charred Bacon.

Skywhale bacon, you need a manly frying pan for it. But, the taste is something that clarifies the question of harpoon-guns on airships.

As a gunner I brought a mallet with me, which is retarded if you want to actually shoot the gun relatively quickly after it being shot apart, before switching to using a wrench for aforementioned reason. I have to trust myself being capable to repair the guns myself, as the engies are usually neck-deep in other stuff after a barrage.
As an engineer I go for Mallet/spanner/extinguisher (since I've played so little) because I usually do not know if the other engineer has the capability to put out fires. If the other one has the same loadout, no problem because that combo works for two engineers. If the other engineer has something akin to a spanner/buff/mallet or freakish buff/mallet/extinguisher I can still keep most of the ship running.

The question what loadout to take is only for the situation when you know the other engineer and can discuss which one specs for buffing and who carries the extinguisher. Usually you have to carry stuff that makes you self-sufficient.

I'm with Kestril here. I am a complete newbie (and a gunner at that), and thus I am always worried I do not pull my weight in the crew. I hate the situation when I am getting yelled at simply because nobody TOLD me that the enemy is closing in from the other side. I spend more time fixing things than shooting, and that is fine if I am being communicated with.

If some kick option was implemented, I would be flying off more ships than empty cartridges during a barrage simply for the reason I am a low-end gunner and the pilot/other crew is judging me before trying. And my best matches have been with a random crew who were guided by the pilot with simple voice-commands.

Wel, for a CV it would be a two-part deal. First, I'd simply put my military training, rank and where I served and how I wish to contribute to the spirit of the crew in general.

The other part would be some ash and splinters with a note "1500 metres, air-to-air."

My ships are all named "The Badger Major".
Because badgers shouldn't fly and neither should I. :D

EDIT: If anybody's wondering, it's things like these that make Finland amazing.

Hah! I just hope I will hoist that much reputation some day.  :P

And diVario, hope to see you soon, and hopefully not on the wrong end of the barrel. ;D

Hi y'all!
I'm a new aeronaut hailing from Finland and was lured to this game due to it having gunners as a class. I went to mandatory service in artillery, so I have some weird fixation on big guns and explosions these days. :D
Hoping for a nice experience and fine crewmates to fly with!

a whistle echoes from the street, a happy tune not notably affiliated with any of the known states of the Waste. The door opens, and a whistling man in his mid-twenties enters and takes his cap off. He is brandishing a couple of small wrenches and a push-measure on his belt, but more notable is the commanding presence of a pistol on his right hip. Grin-wrinkled green eyes observe the various crowd with interest before continuing towards the barkeep.
"Morjesta, good sir! Might I get something to drive away the dust that has clogged up my throat? We met some rather heavy sandstorms on our way here and I'd be more than delighted to feel moist again."

((Morjesta = Howdy in Finnish))

Every day you learn something new.

I, on the other hand, would love some system where the pilot would have at least a vague idea of his guns' line of fire. I know this is mostly a "learn your ship, greasemonkey" -type of situation, but still.
