I've just realized the rules require the ships crews to consist of friends. I think that's unacceptable and hence hereby sign out the "Sky Invading Rhino Ryders" from this event in protest.

And let that beautiful piece of art go to waste? You should be ashamed.

The original post has been edited to include how we are calculating points!

Any questions are welcome.

T. Kirk, Gully and I were playing with a mysterious figure named "Battlesheepgalactica". Then suddenly we found out who it was.

Captain RethBurn: "Actually guys, hold on. If Battlesheep is doing, I want to too."

Captain Rethburn Logged out

A few minutes pass

NotReth has joined the Crewformation

NotReth: Hey guys, thought you needed an extra engie!

Suffice to say, everyone died of laughter.

"Hey, NotReth. Uh. One of our friends just logged out, and that's his slot. Can you leave?"

I'm assuming being two hours late would cause us to miss the whole thing?

That is correct, unfortunately.

Each week you play you must sign up for.

But you don't have to be present every single week.

Poop back and forth as you please, basically.  8)

(That's what I got from that anyways.)

That is correct.

“Mad Hatter: Now statistics prove that you have one birthday.

March Hare: Imagine, just one birthday every year.

Mad Hatter: Ahhh, but there are 364 unbirthdays!

March Hare: Precisely why we're gathered here to cheer!

Alice: Why, then today is my unbirthday too!”

-Disney’s 1951 Rendition of Alice in Wonderland

Unbirthdays. Everybody has one. You’re probably having one right now, aren’t you? If that’s not reason to celebrate, I don’t know what is.
Therefore, Cake will be hosting a tournament over the coming weeks! Here’s what you need to know:

Purpose:
This is going to be a simple point gathering tournament, but with a few twists (as all good tournaments have):

Firstly, sign-ups are NON-exclusive and PER SHIP. This means that all you have to do to meet the requirements is get 3 friends who can compete with you!

Secondly, this will be a deathmatch-only tournament will have a 2 digit point system based on kills and wins. However, various multipliers (both above and below 1x) for builds and ships will be applied. Precise score multiplier values will be posted later. (Hint: Think ‘Cake,’ that is, minimum meta, maximum fire)

We are purposefully posting this announcement quite late. This is to give new players a chance to participate and stand a fighting chance. This is an extremely casual tournament, and we want to maximize the fun had by all. Seriously. Even the big clans. Go grab 3 buddies and sign up below! Don't even ask permission from your leader. Sign up for this stuff!

Dates:

This takes over 4 Saturdays starting on the 24th of January, 8pm UTC. You do not have to attend all 4 Saturdays.

Sign-ups:
All you need to do below is post a point of contact (in form of Steam profile), your 3 crew members you plan to bring along, and your team name. [NOTE: Your ship name MUST be the same as your team name. This is for scoring purposes.] We have open sign-ups up to the day before the event (Friday, 23:59 GMT). You have to sign up every week, and, again, don’t have to sign up for every week.

Pre-Lobby:
Because it’s a point gathering tournament, we will be seeding randomly week 1, and then seeding based on points after that.

In lobby:
We will be ‘draft picking.’ This is having one blue ship ready up and lock its loadout, having both red ships ready up and lock their loadouts, and then finally having the last blue ship ready up and lock its loadout.

Point maths inbound!

All math will be done by Cake. The basic concept is to try to go for the large addition multipliers while staying away from the large subtraction multipliers. Weigh your risk vs. reward and good luck!

Each Kill is worth 100 points.  If more than one multiplier applies, your base score (100 points) will be the number that is multiplied. For example, if you bring hades/flak/flamer front, mines outside Mobula, and kill a target with the flamethrower hitting it, you will get 100 + (100*.5) -(100*.25) = 125 points for that kill

Addition multipliers:
Kill with flamethrower hitting target:                 +0.5x points
Kill where last damage source came from mine: +0.5x points
Kill where last damage was CLEARLY a flare:      +2.0x points
Kill is “stolen” from you:                                 +50 points

Subtraction multipliers:
Gat/Mortar appears with overlapping arcs:                      -.5x points
Hades/Flak appears with overlapping arcs:                     -.25x points
No fire weapon involved in kill:                                     -.5x points

Each win is worth 300 points, and each loss is worth 100 points. If more than one multiplier applies, your base score (300/100) will be the number that is multiplied.
For example, if you win with an all-banshee squid, you will get 300 + (300*.1) + (300*.5) = 480 points plus your points per kill for that match.

Addition multipliers:
Ship composed of 100% fire weapons*:             +0.5x points
Gunner brings incendiary rounds:                      +0.1x points
ALL engineers bring incendiary rounds:               +0.2x points
No chem spray:                                              +1.0x points
Your fly a Spire:                                             +0.2x points
You fly a Squid:                                              +0.1x points
Birthday related items**:                                 +0.01x points per item

Subtraction multipliers:
Ship with no fire weapons/only fire weapon being a flaregun:-0.75x points
Ship with more fire weapons, but rarely used in combat:      -0.75x points
Pyramidion:                                                                   -.2x points
Blenderfish:                                                                   -.1x points

*Fire weapons are flamethrowers, banshees, hades, flare guns, and mine launchers. Regular weapons with incendiary rounds are NOT fire weapons.

**Birthday related items are the Birthday ship theme, party hat for 1 year anniversary, and party hat for 2 year anniversary.

Your total points for the day will be based on your points per kill added to your win/loss total.

Points will be carried over from week to week.

ALL MULTIPLIERS THAT ARE SUBJECTIVE (“stolen” kills, “rarely” used, etc.) are up to the referees and Cake as a whole.
Cake reserves the right to add/subtract points for good/bad behavior.

This event will be streamed at twitch.tv/therobanddanshow

What bothers me about banshee is that they dun feel solid to shoot. The missles dun feel as solid as any other gun.
The impact is like being hit with a fire cracker than the satisfying boom or shred other guns give,

I want the banshee to satisfy my specific gun fetish needs.

tfw someone implies the Banshee isn't perfect.

Oh man, I soooo remember this.

Even though we were the same class, we had roles.

Like, upstairs was chem and pipe wrench, and below was fire extinguisher and spanner.

That was just for starting. We had people jumping all around for all sorts of different situations we planned for, almost felt like some sort of anti-duck, running all gunners so tightly.

I actually really recommend you all do that with a crew you're super tight with, it really builds trust and communication.

Also: (and I admit, I got this idea from someone else) I was flying with Welsh Zelda, Admiral Obvious, and Lord Fudge.

Admiral tied a dirty shirt around his head like a blindfold as the pilot; Lord Fudge wore a welding mask (IRL) so his visibility was about 10% as secondary engineer; Welsh Inverted her mouse controls as the gunner; and I took main engineering, telling Admiral where to fly, and helping anyone else as the gunner class.

We played a couple of matches like this, and actually won a few, and managed a *Very* close raid match (within 50 points).

Kirk is pink haired teen confirmed.

72. When you go to ask someone where they got the reference from when they say happy birthday and then you remember that people outside cake can say happy birthday too.

Firstly. Dude. I told you not to tell anyone about that.
I got bubblegum in my hair, and that was the easiest way I could think to get to get people to not notice.

Also, did I ever tell you guys about the time I was in a restaurant, heard the group behind me collectively say "Happy Birthday," and thought for a solid minute of how the best way to reveal that James T. Kirk was right behind them?

Yea. Thank God I caught myself.

66. When you start saying "Happy Birthday" in real life.

67. When devoting 5 hours of your Friday evening to Guns of Icarus casting sounds like an awesome idea.

Can it be frustrating? Yes. I remember the days when I loaded Incendiary in to every gun because FIRE

Tfw implying fire is a bad strategy.
