Allied Captain: So, Mr. Spock totally just left this lobby.

Me: WHAT? Why didn't he hop on my ship, I've got an open slot.

Allied Captain: Do you really want that guy on your ship? "Captain, flying a Goldfish is most illogical. Captain, not waiting for your ally is most illogical. Captain, contesting the point now is most illogical. Captain, rushing the Spire is most illogical."

Me: Only Mr. Spock would call rushing a Spire illogical.

Yeah, some ships really arent possible to take down solo without some real work or BS meta reducing the game to one of a handful of builds. A 2v2v2 match would be interesting though.
LMS would be the most viable but favours hiding a lot while kill count favours a lot of killstealing, either would have a rather interesting metagame within them.

Well, we're back to sea creatures.

Looks like your streak may continue, LordFunPants.

I do like the Man o' War.

The creature (when seen from the side) looks a lot like the ship in question (when seen from the top): http://i1.treknature.com/photos/261/portugese-man-of-war.jpg

The Man o' War is bulky and puffy (like our ship) has a dignified ring to it (like our ship) and a quick wiki search provides us with this fact:

"Despite its outward appearance, the man o' war is not a jellyfish but a siphonophore, which differs from jellyfish in that it is not actually a single organism, but a colonial organism made up of many minute individuals called zooids."

Sure sounds like a well-functioning crew to me.

The Lounge / Re: What did you name your ship and why?

Goldfish: USS Enterprise
My favorite ship, and it comes with the username.

Squid: Ricky Bobby
Because if you're not first, you're last.

Pyramidion: LEEEERRRROOOYYY
I ran all gat, and a friend of mine (In his Pyra christened the "JEEENNNKKKINNNSS") ran mortars and we blindly rushed into battle.

Galleon: Fighting Fire
Early in my experience with the game, I was having trouble taking down a quad-manticore Galleon, so I tried fighting fire with fire. It failed miserably, but the name stuck.

Spire: Tire
It rhymes.

Looking at the way the balloon drops down, I'd say Pelican

This would be absolutely perfect if Muse built it as an anti-Goldfish/Squid.

But Pelican seems a bit clunky of a name for such an elegantly painted ship.

Maybe Heron?

They look a lot like this ship in flight:

Personally, I don't like Manta Ray.

We already have a Squid and a Goldfish, and while I realize that these are referencing sea ships, I think we take a turn away from sea animals for this next one.

Maybe Albatross?

Or make the Hydrogen completely vertical and the Kerosene completely horizontal.

You know, because Hydrogen helps you move vertically and Kerosene helps you move horizontally.

I realize that this would leave less room for the actual image and more blank space in the icon, but it would make it even harder to mistake one for the other, despite each being a little smaller.

The Lounge / Re: That Moment When...
« on: June 17, 2013, 12:32:17 pm »
That moment when you tell your slightly nooby teammates a 15-30 second battle plan, including which ships to hit first, and which to stay away from.

Then your Gunner just says "cool."

And you look off your port side and see a friendly Spire rushing his Heavy Carronade at the enemy Galleon's broadside.

That moment when you jump on top of the main engine of a Goldfish for sh*ts and giggles and fall off the ship while still on top on the engine.

That moment when you try to jump back on the railing and your screen turns normal again.

Just to make a quick backtrack:

A free for all sounds like something that could be quite fun with 8 ships in total.

Personally, I don't think so.

A free-for-all completely negates the need for harassment ships, disablers, or any other support loadout; one player would do all the work on a kill, and someone else would swoop in and take the point.

Free-for-alls would be made of Merc/flack Pyramidions, gat/flack junkers, and, maybe every once in a blue moon, a gat/mortar Pyra.

While crew-based teamwork would be maintained, team balancing of ships and captain coordination (two major parts of the game) would be out the window.

Making a shaky alliance between another ship to take down a Galleon would be interesting, but coordinating the strike without alerting your prey to your plans would be hard to implement.

The Spire would definitely have the most entertaining paint jobs, assuming Muse takes the pre-designed route with them.

Although, could you imagine something like this on the front of a Galleon?

Ooh, or something like this on a Squid?

Remove graphics all together in order to speed up performance.

"Guns of Icarus" sounds more like a text based game to me anyway.

Already suggested this!

Dang.

And I thought I was so clever....

Hey, no problem.

You're an entertaining caster, and I'd love to see more matches livestreamed.

Oh, and you're welcome to drop in and watch me fail anytime!
