The Lounge / Re: The Bragging Thread

The map was Duel at Dawn. It was my first time piloting a Squid, and the other 3 captains were in one as well, but they made it clear that they flew them often enough.

After almost slipping off the hole in the railing and about a minute of being amazed at the speed I could fly around the little map, I decided to get down to business. With my Banshee pointed forward, and my Gat on the right, I played the Squid like I do my Goldfish: take them out before they take you out.

Score ended up 5-1, in favor of my team, ally got caught in a crossfire.

"Mark this captain down boys, he's a good one."

First time I flew with Silverst, someone who became one of my best in-game friends, gunners, and engineers.

The little story on the loading screen could say something about two factions (red and blue team) racing to receive payment for the same cargo, while sky pirates (black team) try to take it for themselves.

They could even have the teams rotate every round! The trick would be making each round short enough so all three teams could go without the game taking more than 10 - 20 minutes.

I really like the idea of working with a different ally (or working on your own) every round.

The Lounge / Re: What did you name your ship and why?

I've been flying my junker a lot recently, It's pretty durable, someone described it as the Galleons little cousin during a game a while back.

Someone in one of my games called it the Pocket Galleon.

Personally, I like "Heron" or "Man 'o War," and the former only because I suggested it.

If our good friend the dev does decide to change the name to one discussed here, it'll probably be "Man 'o War," unless he absolutely despises the name for some reason.

It fits the ship, it fits the gag, and the people like it.

Too easy for trolls to troll.

Also, that Powder Monkey who either can't hear you or thinks he knows better could also screw you over.

Maybe if the Game mode was locked to level 3 and up...

Gameplay / Re: Spire Builds

Personally, I don't fly Spires, but I always saw them as the perfect sniper build.

Put mercs where the light weapon slots face forward, some flares on the light spots that don't, put a lumberjack or heavy flack down below, and viola! a sniper platform.

These should only be used in capture maps, because they're just easy kills in DMs.

I swear to you, today, I joined a 2 v 2 with a Spire who had a heavy carronade and flamers. He also insisted on leading the charge. They were 4 out of the 5 kills (I tried to ram the broadside of a galleon off of him in a last-ditch effort. Didn't end well.)

    • Triangle of hate, each team has a target team and is scored by that team dieing but not the other (who is targetting them)

    Now this sounds interesting.

It would be cool to fire at a target that can't fire back, but on the flip side, you can't do anything to stop the guy firing on you.

Disablers would be thrown out of the equation, as your only defense against the guy shooting at you is the guy you're shooting at.

Harassers, snipers, and brawlers are still a part of the mix, though.

It would be either really fun, or really annoying, depending on how people end up playing it.

That moment when a 3 banshee 2 flamer junker helps carry the team to victory

Not without the trusty Enterprise with her gats and Manticore.

It was a 5-1 victory too, if I remember.

Did the Artemis use to be called the missile sling?

A pogo stick tool for the captain to use so the ship bounces back to the top of the map after hitting the ground.

    Only available on the Spire.
I think there's some concept art for that somewhere.

    Oh...

    Oh my...

Interestingly enough, the Mercury Field gun is called the Mini Howitzer in the destruction feed in the top left, if I'm not mistaken.

    COINCIDENCE?
