The Pit / Cullen is actually the server.
« on: July 20, 2013, 09:06:07 am »
Everyone. Think about it. Cullen "goes out sick" for a few days, and the servers go crazy.

This isn't my only evidence, but it's what tipped me off.

Looking back at the older threads, he came along about the time of the Kickstarter.
My theory? An unnamed rich man donated 10 million to the Kickstarter, because, god damn, he wanted to board something.

Unwilling to add boarding, Muse had to spend the money on something.

A 10 million dollar production of a sentient server program was started on the spot.
In order to throw us all off, they added this over-the-top personality.

You all have played a sci-fi game or two. What's the one weapon that doesn't effect robots?
Fire-based ones.

What is the main purpose of Cullen's "clan" (and by that I mean mindless drones soon to be assimilated)?

Fire.

Speaking of his "Clan" what's the one food Sentient A.I. Seem to be obsessed with?

I'll give you a hint: it's a lie.

Search your hearts, you all know it to be true.

I'm just missing one piece of the puzzle: "Cullen"

That's not a real name. It's an acronym for something...

But what?

Oh. And I say we all start calling him "Server Boy."

The Pit / Why We Need Kicking.
« on: July 18, 2013, 07:12:55 pm »
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Engineers, Gunners, and Pilots, I now bring up the age-old topic of kicking.

Many group Kicking with Boarding, saying it will "Break the game mechanics" or "dis-inspire teamwork."

I strongly disagree.

I would like to preface this thread with three pieces of evidence as to why kicking is a necessity.
I invite you all to mindlessly support me with evidence of your own.

1) New people: Why should I bother training new people when a kick function will replace them with a more experienced crewmen in twice the time, with less than half the work?
Common, people, this point is just basic math.

2) Annoying others: We all know that there is no greater pleasure in this world than causing pain and frustration to another human being for no particular reason. Now, imagine with me, if you would, a situation where the Captain is taking his role WAY to seriously. As in, like, welcoming people to his ship, giving orders, or even going as far to start some sort of clan or something. Now, in the heat of battle, kick the poor guy outta the lobby and crash the ship into the ground.
You'll be able to feel the rage through the Global chat.

3) Finally, I present you all with the highest quality recording of one of today's FINEST minds in relation to "kicking."

The Docks / Hey there GoI! Do you like Cake?
« on: July 11, 2013, 03:32:45 pm »
Welcome!
Hello, Everyone! Welcome to Cake Clan.
Possibly one of the largest in the game and Co-Founded by a previous Employee of Muse Games!
Because Cake’s inner workings are more a collective mind than a hierarchy, we are comprised into three main parts:
  • The Casual Cupcakes
  • The Competitive Cakes.
  • The Cake Management Crew
No Pastry (what we call members of Cake) is better or more cake-y than another.
Each role is elective and all you have to do to join another role is ask.
Newbies, veterans, and people who just want to burn stuff are all welcome.
(Check the recruitment section for details on how to apply.)

We’re so professional, we’ve even got ourselves a fancy website;
go check out “The Kitchen” over at cakeclan.shivtr.com!

Who We Are
What Cake is all about:

Cake is the fire clan of the Guns of Icarus Community, and we find nothing more fun than burning ships alive!

We love Banshees, Hades, Mine Launchers, Flare Guns, Flamethrowers, and of course, Incendiary Rounds!
Cakes enjoy running fire builds both in-game and out, and we love our flames so much that we dare to stand our ground with them competitively.
Of course flying something else every now and then is alright,
but if you don’t actively enjoy flying with fire on board, Cake might not be the clan for you.
You could say that fire lights the candles on this Cake! (Oh, that was not a good pun, common Jim, that was awful).

Our clan is one founded on the principle of mutual friendship and trust,
and the base requirements of Pastries are that they are friendly and understanding.
This means we don’t troll, purposely start arguments, or create unnecessary tension.
Our ideal outcome is to have people go “Oh boy! It’s Cake again; engineers bring Chem Spray!”
By the end of the match (be it from laughter or the ridiculous amounts of fire that surrounds their ships in a glorious halo) we want the other team to be in ‘tiers’! (You know, because the larger cake types have tiers!? No? I’ll stop. Eventually.)

Competitive View
As part of how Cake works, we are competitive. However, our attitude on it isn’t
WE GOTTA WIN THE THING NO MATTER WHAT
rather,
WE’RE GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN AT THE THING!
We love to participate in Tournaments, Scrimmages, and lots of other competitions,
but because of who we are, and how our clan is, we focus more and having (and causing) fun than we do on winning.
This doesn’t mean we won’t be winning, though!

Recruitment/Applications
Our mission is to take on new, intermediate, and advanced players who don’t mind losing,
and then go shake up the GoI community with a good helping of Cake coalition insanity.

To apply to join Cake

1. Go check out cakeclan.shivtr.com!
You’ll have to log in and apply there before we accept you in-game.

If you were accepted into only one of these areas (the website OR the in-game) please contact us
either in-game, through the website, or through cakemanagementcrew@gmail.com!

If you are unsure whether you want to join Cake or not,
try out joining us for the above mentioned “The Iron Fork on Friday” event,

Feedback and Suggestions / Badges. So. Many. Badges.
« on: July 09, 2013, 03:17:14 pm »
So, after the high of collecting all of my badges wore off, (I can only imagine how long it took some of you more experienced players) I looked at them a little closer.

They look sad without descriptions.

Common Muse! Give my badges the same clever descriptions you give achievements!

... Please?

I would like to preface my post with this: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FKnBDO6U_A0
WARNING: NSFW DUE TO LANGUAGE AND AWESOME.

With the FOURTH OF JULY coming up, I say we all CELEBRATE. How? Simple. By REPRESENTING AMERICA.

"Well, James," you ask yourself "how do we do that?"

Once again, the answer is simple: EMBODYING AMERICANS.

What are Americans? LOUD, OBNOXIOUS, and GENERALLY ANNOYING.

And, thankfully, Muse has given us the PERFECT weapon for the job.

THE BANSHEE LIGHT ROCKET CAROUSEL.

So, Americans, go show some country pride and shoot off a couple fireworks!

And if you aren't American?
Well,
You have a nice Thursday.

Q&A / Starting a poll
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:33:54 am »
Seeing as I can't seem to find this topic anywhere, I'll help out myself and any future newbies with this simple question:

How do I start a poll?

"It is better to be feared than loved"
-Niccolo Machiavelli

Seeing as it's near impossible to make one genuinely fear for his or her life on the internet, I try my hardest to make my crew love me.

Other than the obvious things, (don't curse out your crew too badly; if the loss was your fault, hold up to it; crack a joke every now and again; etc.) what do you other Captains like to do to make your crew feel welcome?

If you don't Captain often, what would make you feel more at home with a Captain that's either new or new to you?

For example, I always welcome new crewmen to the Enterprise.

While I realize a lot of you more experienced Captains can get crew to stay with sheer Piloting or tactical skill alone, some of us newer guys gotta rely on some good 'ol manners.

I look forward to picking up a few new tricks of the trade!

I say that when we get our ship customization options, and if paint jobs are one of those options, one of the paints on a Spire is a giant red and white target.

Muse is probably going to have to have a few pre-set paints to each ship, maybe even have a few unlockable/buyable. You're probably not going to be able to paint your own ship any more than coloring a few different parts with a color selector anyway, so I would rather see more complicated/fearsome/pretty designs by Muse themselves.

And COME ON, don't pretend that as soon as you see a Spire, someone doesn't come on the captain's chat and tell everyone to focus fire on that guy?
It's an easy kill if someone on your team is flying a disabler, and too much of a threat if left unchecked.

Therefore, I think turning a Spire into a literal flying target would be both clever and humorous.

As an added bonus, make it the default paint job, so it could possibly point out new pilots on the helm.

Q&A / Leaving your post. "E" vs. Space Bar.
« on: June 15, 2013, 05:47:29 pm »
I went to go adjust my keybindings at the helm the other day, and I noticed something a little strange: the keybindings menu has two distinct controls for leaving your post (be it a gun or the helm). It clearly states that the "E" key is to "DismountHelm" or "DismountGun" and the Space Bar is to "LeaveHelm" or "LeaveGun."

I went into practice mode and fooled around for a little bit (pointing guns in different directions, moving the throttle, loading different rounds, etc.) and I saw no difference between the two.

Did I miss some major detail?
Is Muse just against copy/paste?
Should I even care?

I look forward to your answers to these questions and more.
