Gameplay / Re: The Meta is dead, long live the Meta.

Well, this has given some interesting reading. I'm going to be frank, because that's what I do, but I'm not trying to be rude. Me and my clan have been watching from the outside (for some years now) for the changes that needed to occur for us to return; haven't seen them yet, this confirms it  still. Been waiting for the day that Muse stops hiring staff from their community, or letting them run the game. Still waiting for them to hire knowledgeable professionals that have prior work experience in the field. Still waiting it seems.

From what I've been reading, it sounds like the original "hand of balance" (in all it's horror) was swapped, for a slightly more bureaucratic and multi-headed "hand of balance". Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems like a new face of the same old. Is hiring a seasoned and experienced lead game designer to determine the balance really such a terrible, hard-to-implement concept?

no but did you try asking nicely?

glad we got this ticket all sorted out. let me know if you need any more help.

This right here is the reason why Muse still does not get it.

Not everyone who still plays this knows that I'd wager, and if they too are turned off by how badly the other factions look it may be the reason the guild is over populated.

But the guild is the only faction that has a ship and clothing that looks somewhat plausible, that doesn't look like complete trash.

It honestly doesn't matter what they do. Alliance is irrelevant. The damage was done years ago, and there is no coming back from that. The opportunity passed.

the things it does not do well however, the game is not emersive enough, I dont want to sit in a lobby. lobbies are boring. Each faction should have a capital city themed to its unique setting, maybe even just a map of a capital city allowing you to click on each physical options, to customize your ships you select the factions version of a garage/warehouse to make adjustments or click on the pub to go to match selections.

My brother in-law had that idea that he would bring up at every fireside, for a few years. He moved out of my house a year ago, so that was the last time I heard him rant about it. So what I'm saying it was suggested for years, and that was years ago...it's probably not happening sadly.

@Byron,

Damned isn't making a second game's size worth of content at the same time. This is the reason I would say we rate pretty low for content.
As for quarterly content updates
Like one full gun every quarter or what size of content would be your expectation? I want to zero in on it so I can talk to the team and see, after we get through getting alliance out if we can make a new roadmap and what player expectations vs our reality is and how they can mesh.

So I wrote this back in September and posted it a few times since then:
Quote
From my calculations, MUSE has created 7 new ships, 7 new guns, and 7 new maps since the release of skirmish (factoring in both skirmish and alliance content). That is 1.75, or 2 (rounding up) new ships, 2 new guns, and 2 new maps a year that they have produced.

Unfortunately, that is my minimum expectation of content that should be produced and available for skirmish at this point. This is even factoring in Alliance content, which should double that. Basically, MUSE is 4 years behind in expected content, and this is a problem that others, and myself, have tried communicating to them for these past 4 years.

That is a huge problem with the game, and a reason why not only veteran players, but entire clans, and casual players from sales are not returning, and why advertising will have diminishing returns (to the point of being completely ineffective).

I've factored in Alliance to give you a bone. It's still not good enough. I'm telling you this as a customer. It's not my job to figure out how you should manage your time better. All I'm saying is, that is not good enough.

Well In May it will have been four years. Four years. It's not even a new game! It has a lot of content for sure, but it's still relying on Skirmish for a lot of existing content.

Most companies could (and have) made entirely new games in that time!

General Discussion / Re: Alliance art style

Oh comon!

The faction section of the website hasn't been updated since 2013, maybe earlier. I've begged Howard and Matt to update, I've pleaded the case that you need a constantly updated website with the relevant information. So don't throw the website in here. Wanna understand Alliance ships? MUSE should update the website, because those articles were written before the SPIRE CAME OUT! Especially when not even all the faction pages were finished, especially Angela. I saw someone else ask Eric on a fireside years ago to at least finish updating them so they could see Anglea's full information. He condescendingly laughed, and said "lore takes work, I'll get to it when I get to it".

Is that a different Chaladon ship than the player Chaladon ship? Maybe, I'll take your word it for it. I don't know, because the website doesn't tell me. It doesn't have any information on Alliance. I had to get the concept art years ago and apply it where I could. All I know is: that looks a lot like the Chaladon ship in-game, except better in every way. With an appropriate sized balloon.

My only criticism is that the balloon looks too small.

How do8es one become lead game designer in a company with zero previous experience?

Based off of similar sized indie studios and games, I would say at minimum a year (I mean, Damned is beating you out on content updates...Damned...), but to be seriously competitive every quarter, with cosmetics more frequently. And I think they should all be cash shop, like Depth.

The innocence of it all is kind of redeeming.
